Arsenal vs Liverpool

The Final Battle begins. Our whole season probably hinges on this game. The disappointments over the past three weeks have been immense. Exit from the FA Cup, demoralising defeats against Utd and Chelsea and most importantly, being displaced from top of the table to rank outsiders in a matter of three games. While some of us have given up hope, some still hold an ounce of it.

So its time to see if we still need to hold that hope come Wednesday night. A victory in this game is the only way to keep our chances, if any, in the title race alive. If we want to win the title, then we need to go on a 13 game winning streak now and the first of those victories has to come at home against a resurgent Liverpool side.

They are in some kind of form, picking 17 points off the possible 21. They will also look to avenge last season's result at Anfield when Arshavin ended their title hopes and no doubt, they would want to do the same to us. They also need to keep their run going to get that coveted fourth place as Spuds and City have easier games and could overhaul Pool for that fourth place after this round of games.

Off late, Pool have been getting the results via grit, passion and determination rather than qualilty and flamboyance. They have performed admirably in crisis and are not to be taken lightly. We can expect a lot of tough challenges coming in and lots of silly fouls being committed on our players. Pool will not allow us to settle and play our natural game. They will hurry us and look to keep us unsettled all the time.

Though we gave everything against Chelsea, the obvious lack of cutting edge and penetration is a reason to worry. Though all teams might not be as organised as Chelsea, I hope that Arsenal dont carry this into other games. We need to start scoring to get the confidence back.

Of course, to score is to finish, and off late, our finishing has been C-grade. The Pool-buster, Arshavin, has been the prime culprit in missing our better chances over the last two games. What better opposition for him to regain his scoring touch than the team that he scored four against and made himself known all over the country. The fact that he is playing the match in which he has been the hero for two consecutive meetings, is sure to give him a lift and confidence.

Our back four needs to be solid. Though there wont be Torres, Pool have enough firepower to trouble us. The back four needs to play together and not go haywire on every counter attack. Though Pool dont look as dangerous as others on counter attack, they have dangerous crossers in Aurelio, Gerrard, Riera and also Insua and that is something we need to be wary of.

I dont expect to see any change from our team that played Chelsea with the exception of Rosicky starting instead of Walcott. But if I were Wenger, I would be tempted to start Eboue instead of Sagna. Pool's left side - Insua/Aurelio and Riera/Babel - looks weak defensively. Eboue made a nuisance of himself in his cameo appearance at the Bridge. So I would be tempted to start him ahead of Sagna and see how Insua and co cope up with him running at them.

It has been a nightmarish fortnight for us so far and in spite of that, I fancy Arsenal to get the win against Liverpool. Its time for players to turn up and put in a winning performance. I want to see Arshavin running around Emirates with his finger on his lips again. I want to see Cesc jump and do his clenched fist celebration and go into the ballistic crowd shedding tears of joy again. I want to see AW jump out of his seat celebrating again. Its our final chance. Lets make that one final "hopeful" push towards the title. Lets get our winning run started!

The draw has been made we have:
Spain
Czech Republic
SCOTLAND
Lithuania
Liechtenstein

Though draw, however the Czechs aren't as strong as they used to be...No more Nedved and Koller or even Poborsky and Galasek, Lithuania we have been there done that got the t-shirt and liechtenstein well we CAN'T drop points against them because no one else will. We probably will though considering we always do against international footballs whipping boys. Spain is our biggest problem. On the positive side we have a decent record agaisnt them and coming to hampden we can beat anyone.

A look at the Champions League last-16 opponents of the three English sides left, with Internazionale in fine form ahead of their clash with Chelsea.

Milan (face Manchester United at the San Siro on February 16)
Bologna 0-0 Milan
Milan slumped to a goalless draw as they made it four games without a win, effectively ending their hopes of challenging Internazionale for the title.
The Rossoneri hit the bar twice but their creative problems remained as they continued to miss injured forward Alexandre Pato.
Former Manchester United midfielder David Beckham was dropped having played all five leagues games since arriving for a second loan spell from Los Angeles Galaxy.
Porto (face Arsenal at the Estadio do Dragao on February 17)
Porto 3-0 Naval
Goals from Tomas Costa, Falcao and Varela pulled Porto to within seven points of Superliga leaders Benfica with one game in hand.
Costa opened the scoring with a free-kick on 37 minutes.
With 11 minutes left Falcao settled his side's nerves by heading in a cross from Bruno Alves, with Varela adding a sheen to the win with a long-range drive late on.
Internazionale (face Chelsea at the Giuseppe Meazza on February 24)
Inter 3-0 Cagliari
Jose Mourinho's side lived up to their fearful home reputation with Goran Pandev and Walter Samuel effectively ending the game by half-time.
Diego Milito bagged his 17th goal of the season just two minutes after the restart as Inter secured the three points in style.
The Nerazzurri go 10 points clear at the top of Serie A.

Tactics Walk Through

I will show you the pros and cons of a 'good' tactic or a 'bad' one.

I will start with the 4-5-1 formation.

4-5-1 (Four Five One) Formation

A formation which has grown in popularity in recent times, the 4-5-1 is fundamentally defensive, but can be tweaked to provide more of an offensive threat. The essential qualities of the 4-5-1 are a three-man central midfield and a lone striker, typically a target man. By packing the midfield, a technically strong passing side will come unstuck and provide opportunities for counter-attacking football. When on the attack, the 4-5-1 is heavily dependent on the wingers supporting the lone striker.
Posted Image
Perhaps the best illustration of 4-5-1 in full flow is Jose Mourinho’s system. Both as manager of FC Porto and Chelsea, Mourinho founded his sides on strong defensive line-ups and an excellent holding midfielder, while the attack relied on a hard-working front man and a goal-scorer in midfield. At Chelsea, his defensive stalwarts were the captain and central defender John Terry and the holding midfielder Claude Makélélé. Alongside the Frenchman, Frank Lampard provided the bulk of goals from central midfield, ably supported by Joe Cole and Arjen Robben on the wings and Didier Drogba’s efforts up front. The side was extremely successful, picking up back-to-back Premiership titles in 2005 and 2006, building on Mourinho’s previous achievement at Porto in winning the 2004 Champions League trophy.

The Fernando Torres Thread

Quote

"We bought the lad from sunny Spain, he gets the ball and scores again."
The Kop has a new idol by the name of Fernando Torres - and no one makes the famous stand bounce like Liverpool's No.9.
Signed for a club record fee of approximately £20 million in July 2007, El Nino was handed the shirt vacated by Anfield legend Robbie Fowler.
Undaunted, he soon became the first Red since Fowler in 1996-97 to break the 30-goal barrier and is already on his way to achieving Godlike status.
Before joining the Premier League aged 23, Torres spent 12 years with hometown club Atletico Madrid.
Such was his prodigious talent he was named the best U14 player in Europe following his performances in the 1998 Nike Cup.
Torres became the youngest player in Atletico history upon making his debut in May 2001. He went on to bag 21 goals in 2003-04 after being named Vicente Calderon's youngest ever skipper at the age of 19.
Having already top-scored in European U16 and U19 Championships, El Nino earned a first senior cap in September 2003 against Portugal. Seven months later he chalked up a first international goal against Italy. The forward would go on to net three times in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Clubs around Europe, including Manchester United and Arsenal, were understandably circling. However, in May 2007 it became clear Torres had his heart set on Merseyside when he revealed the phrase 'We'll Never Walk Alone' on the inside of his captain's armband during a match between Atletico and Real Sociedad.
Two months of speculation and paper talk ensued before the striker was finally unveiled at Melwood.
Torres made his competitive debut for Liverpool at Villa Park on August 11, 2007. A week later he smashed in his first official goal (he'd already scored in a pre-season friendly versus Shanghai Shenhua) when a trademark burst of pace against Chelsea sent Anfield wild.
Successive home hat-tricks to see off Middlesbrough and West Ham helped the hitman total 33 in 2007-08, including 24 in the league to overtake Ruud van Nistelrooy and become the most prolific foreigner ever in a debut season in England.
His crucial strike in the Stade Velodrome against Marseille won Goal of the Season on Liverpoolfc.tv, and it came as no surprise when fans also voted him their Player of the Year.
As if all this wasn't enough, Torres then topped off an incredible season by helping Spain to Euro 2008 glory in Austria and Switzerland. It was he who scored the winner in the final against Germany - one of two throughout the tournament. Remarkably, it was Spain's first major honour since 1964 - and our No.9 was the hero.
A series of hamstring injuries disrupted 2008-09, though a haul of 17 goals from 38 appearances aided Liverpool's best title charge since 1990.
Torres spent a large part of the summer that followed in South Africa, where an awesome 11-minute hat-trick against New Zealand helped Spain reach the Confederations Cup semi-finals.

Die Hard

Die Hard is a 1988 American action film and the first in the Die Hard film series. The film was directed by John McTiernan and written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza. It is based on a 1979 novel by Roderick Thorp titled Nothing Lasts Forever, itself a sequel to the book The Detective, which was previously made into a 1968 film starring Frank Sinatra. The film was produced by Lawrence and Charles Gordon, along with Joel Silver.
It stars Bruce Willis as NYPD officer John McClane and Alan Rickman as terrorist thief Hans Gruber.

In my opinion, this is one of the best movies, better than avatar. :) I don't enjoy the first Die Hard but the rest are amazing. :)

1988 Die Hard

On Christmas Eve, Detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) of the New York City Police Department arrives in Los Angeles to reconcile with his estranged wife, Holly Gennaro (Bonnie Bedelia). McClane is driven to the Nakatomi Plaza building by a limo driver named Argyle (De'voreaux White). The company Christmas party is disrupted by the arrival of thirteen terrorists led by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman). The terrorists cut the telephone lines, seal the building exits, and replace the building guard with one of their own. Hans and his group secure the party goers as hostages, but McClane manages to slip into the stairwell of the building. Gruber portrays himself to the police as a terrorist working towards various extremist goals, but it is revealed that they are actually trying to steal $640 million in bearer bonds from the Nakatomi vault. When Nakatomi executive Joseph Takagi (James Shigeta) refuses to reveal the code for one of the vault's seven locks, Gruber executes him. Gruber orders Theo (Clarence Gilyard Jr.), his technical expert, to break through the locks on the vault. Theo reminds Hans that the final lock is powered by circuits that cannot be cut locally. Gruber promises to handle the last lock.
McClane moves through the building, hiding from or killing the terrorists he encounters. He learns more of their motives while acquiring a two-way radio, C4 explosives, and detonators from the body of one terrorist. McClane uses the radio to attract the attention of the LAPD, who send Sergeant Al Powell (Reginald VelJohnson) to investigate. Gruber sends his men, led by Karl (Alexander Godunov), to kill McClane and retrieve the detonators. Fooled by the impostor guard, Powell is about to leave when McClane drops the corpse of a terrorist onto Powell's police car. McClane explains the situation via the two-way radio as the police, led by Deputy Police Chief Dwayne T. Robinson (Paul Gleason), arrive. The police send in a SWAT team and an armored vehicle. McClane and Powell are unable to prevent the SWAT team from being ambushed, but McClane manages to kill the terrorists attacking the SWAT team. One of Holly's coworkers, Harry Ellis (Hart Bochner), tries to negotiate with Hans and McClane for the return of the detonators. McClane refuses to return them, and Hans shoots Ellis. The FBI arrive, and take control from the police. They order the power to the building shut down, which deactivates the vault's final lock as Gruber had intended.
Gruber lures the FBI into a trap by giving them a list of demands including a helicopter to transport his men and the hostages from the roof of the building to Los Angeles International Airport. When McClane finds Gruber working on something below the roof, Gruber pretends to be a hostage. They share a smoke and McClane gives Gruber an unloaded gun, but is forced to flee when Gruber calls the other terrorists. As Gruber orders the hostages to the roof he learns from a TV report that Holly is McClane's wife and takes her hostage. Before McClane can warn anyone about the explosives on the roof, he is stopped by Karl. McClane subdues Karl by hanging him by the neck with a chain. McClane scares the hostages away from the roof by shooting a gun into the air. The FBI mistakes him for a terrorist and shoots at him, forcing him to jump off the roof tethered to a fire hose just before the terrorists detonate the C4. He re-enters the building via an office window, making his way to Gruber, who uses Holly as a human shield. McClane pretends to surrender and shoots Hans and the final terrorist after they are distracted. Gruber crashes through a window and grabs Holly's wrist, hanging on to her watch. McClane is able to release the watch, catching Holly while Gruber falls to his death.
McClane and Holly are escorted from the building, meeting Powell in person. Karl's body is brought out on a stretcher when he rises up with a gun and points it at McClane. Karl is shot by Powell before he can open fire, and Argyle comes crashing out the parking garage in the limo, after having detained Theo attempting to escape with the bonds. John and Holly are driven off by Argyle, their relationship renewed by their experiences.

Sunderland AFC

Club Info:
Sunderland Association Football Club are an English professional association football club based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear that compete in the Premier League. Since their formation in 1879, they have won six First Division titles—in 1892, 1893, 1895, 1902, 1913, and 1936 and the FA Cup twice, in 1937 and 1973.

They were founded by schoolteacher James Allan, moved towards professionalism and were elected into The Football League in 1890 where they performed well in the league, earning plaudits such as a "wonderfully fine team".

Sunderland won their first FA Cup in 1937 with a 3–1 victory over Preston North End. They had remained in the top league for 68 successive seasons, a record surpassed only by Arsenal until they were relegated in 1958. Sunderland's most notable trophy win after the Second World War was their second FA Cup in 1973, when they secured a 1–0 victory over Leeds United. They have won the second tier title 5 times in that period and the third tier title once.

Stadium:

Sunderland play their home games at the 49,000 capacity all-seater Stadium of Light having moved from Roker Park in 1997. The original ground capacity was 42,000 which was increased to 49,000 following redevelopment in 2000. Sunderland have a long-standing rivalry with their neighbouring club Newcastle United, with whom they have contested the Tyne–Wear derby since 1898.
