I didn't find an official Lazio thread, so here it is.

My support of Lazio is only in effect when they play against Madrid, though.

Heyyyy, welcome to the Italian forum !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We actually had 2 Lazio threads, one fell into disrepair so we started a new one. We even had a Lazio fan, but Taib seems to have disappeared rather strangely! unsure.gif

Anyway, an unfortunate time of it, Lazio are having at the moment. Losing at home to Olympiacos was a disappointing result.

Lazio will be playing against the real Real Madrid on matchday 6. Expect a wrath of epic proportions in the Bernabeu. Though, I still can't believe we allowed ourselves to get in this ugly mess...anyway, it should make for an entertaining matchday in group c.
Cuore
I think that Madrid will either annihilate Lazio or fail miserably.
MustafaHH
I wish good luck for Lazio and I think Lazio will do it. Because real madrid players will think they are will be the winner so they will n`t play good then Rocchi will show us his magic and Pandev will show us his beautiful goals and Ballota will be a great man for this match ...

GOOD LUCK FOR LAZIO
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on Lazio!!!!!!!!! Break Bernabeu's hearts!!!!!!!!!! Forza Biancocelesti!

Lazio fan here,

one of the bigger matches in recent history for us tonight

Welcome aboard mate. Hope you have a good time here and help keep us updated on all things Biancocelestis! thumbsup.gif
RockinRaul
well, i am a madrid fan, right, so of course i hope madrid will beat them, but i do not see it really. lazio took a great draw in the first game. and then bremen managed to beat madrid. sure, its madrid at home, but i would not be surprised to see a nice little draw, because lazio has a top defense. it sounds like one of the toughest games madrid had to play so far.

still i will go cheering for madrid, but good luck to you guys smile.gif
Pandev - King of Macedonia
unfortunately Raul, we have a poor defence this season. Injury has decimated it and there is no stability. Expect a high scoring match, plenty of goals for both teams.
RockinRaul
ah well, just hope casillas has a bad day, because madrids defense is anything but 100% sure, trust me. if you get across ramos, the deal is done laugh.gif casillas was doing some world class saving, so i´d say try hard. of course the bernabeau would add some problems aswell. they are strong at home. but if lazio can survive the rome derby, i doubt the bernabeau will scare them away.

watch out for ruud and raul. those two smashed some great teams together. robinho is also doing pretty damn good. but somehow madrid can´t manage to perform as good as in la liga in the CL, i do see some serious chances there for you guys.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, this was pointless then. What a disappointment, I was at least hoping for a draw so that Madrid followed the tradition of ending the group as 2nd and getting hard ties in the 2nd round. Oh well.
RockinRaul
ah well, i´d like to say sorry mate, but i can´t. did i not warn you of casillas? laugh.gif

i am happy madrid won, i expected more of lazio. well, raul scored which makes me happy. look at it the positive way, mate, its really no shame to lose vs madrid. its a lame excuse, i know, but its true smile.gif
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's always been the same story with Casillas and Madrid, at least for the past 4-5 seasons. At least now his contribution is recognized and well rewarded. But I didn't think it boiled down to Casillas's performance, but rather Lazio's strikers failure to capitalize when they got near the penalty box (which I believe they did more frequently and dangerously for the first 10-13 minutes, something that gave me hope), as well as Lazio's defense being softer than moist toilet paper.

On another note, I have a Lazio shirt that I bought some 5 years ago when I visited Italy to spite some Romanista friends. At the time it was sponsored by Siemens mobile, and since the shirt is so old, the letters are falling off. Yesterday during the game the second s and the first i 'came' off.
RockinRaul
i guess that was a sign sad.gif you need a new shirt. good thing xmas is coming up. huh? wink.gif

yes, i saw some highlights and i guess lazio played not as bad as people like to tell. i guess with a bit more luck and the "s" not falling off your shirt, you could have managed to score another goal. and then with the penalty... it could have ended 3-3. who knows?

well, all just talk now anyway. lazio did still impress me from their first game vs madrid. i´d like to see them next season again in the CL.

Lazio need to get a GK soon, lotito policy is shit and if he keeps it he will lose his players sooner or later.

Struggling Lazio told to buy
Wednesday 12 December, 2007

Former Lazio sporting director Oreste Cinquini has insisted that the club’s Champions League exit underlines their need for new faces.

Biancocelesti President Claudio Lotito was criticised for his lack of summer investment and Cinquini has advised them to recruit in the New Year or face more struggles this term.

“I just hope that people don’t start to claim that they now don’t need to buy after being eliminated from the Champions League,” he stated after last night’s 3-1 reverse at Real Madrid.

“All Lazio fans should just have faith that boss Delio Rossi is aware of the situation and he will certainly be able to tell the President what this side needs.”

The capital club have had a nightmare start to the season and are failing to reproduce last term’s heroics which saw them finish in the top four.

Although a number of key players have under performed, the club’s inability to replace Angelo Peruzzi after his retirement has been a massive problem.

I hear that [River Plate goalkeeper] Juan Pablo Carrizo won’t arrive in January which means a decision needs to be made on whether they believe in Nestor Muslera or not,” added Cinquini.

“They will also need to clarify the position of another young ‘keeper in the shape of Tommaso Berni because it’s a big risk to move forward with Marco Ballotta who is in his forties.”

Ballotta has become first choice at the Stadio Olimpico ever since Muslera’s nightmare performance in the 5-1 home defeat to Milan.

No Carrizo!!!! ohmy.gif Thats a huge blow to the Biancocelesis second half of the season. A keeper is the very first thing Lazio NEED to buy. Ballota is just so far past the necessary standard!....now interestingly enough, this all elads me to the next story I got from channel4.com.

Lazio to lure Amelia?
Wednesday 12 December, 2007

Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia’s determination to return to the capital could see him consider an offer from Lazio as he waits on his beloved Roma.

The former Giallorossi youngster is keen to leave the struggling Tuscans for a bigger side and is likely to favour a return to his hometown.

However, despite his repeated appeals to Roma, Amelia is no closer to returning to his former club and could even turn to rivals Lazio.

“Having represented Marco for two years, I can confirm that there has never been any contact with Roma,” Carlo Pallavicino revealed on Unico Grande Amore.

“Talks for Amelia seem to go on for an eternity. Negotiations with Lokomotiv Moscow went on for months and after so much talk there was no conclusion.

“There have been rumours that Amelia could be in Lazio’s sights as they are looking to resolve their goalkeeper problem, but at the moment there have still been no concrete offers.”
Now how is that for a shock turn of events....I wonder how Lazio fans would feel about that!....

and further news on Rocchis contract situation!

Rocchi contract confusion
Wednesday 12 December, 2007

Lazio risk losing star striker Tommaso Rocchi after his agent confirmed contract talks have stalled.

The hitman has repeatedly complained that his deal was not renewed and a pay rise has been denied despite three sensational seasons.

“I confirm what the newspapers wrote, that I did have a meeting with President Claudio Lotito, but it only happened because I was in Madrid at the same time for another matter,” explained agent Oscar Damiani.

“There were no steps forward. Our positions have undoubtedly become closer in recent times, but nothing has been agreed yet.

“In any case, we are optimistic that these negotiations can reach a positive outcome.”

This term alone Rocchi and teammate Goran Pandev have scored 66 per cent of all Lazio’s Serie A goals.

He played in last night’s 3-1 loss at Real Madrid, although he also had a stoppage-time penalty saved.

The Biancocelesti squad flew back to Italy and medical tests have shown Cristian Ledesma only has bruising to the right knee, an injury that forced him off during the second half of that Bernabeu match.

Ex-Lazio sporting director Oreste Cinquini has urged the club to strengthen the team.

Siviglia Calls For Calm Heads

Lazio defender Sebastiano Siviglia has called for calm in the face of the brewing crisis in the blue-and-white side of the Italian capital.

It all looks to be coming unraveled at the Olimpico, as Lazio’s poor results on the field have been compounded by in-fighting, most recently a blazing row between coach Delio Rossi and Guglielmo Stendardo, which will almost certainly result in the defender’s dismissal from the club.

Siviglia is doing his best to be the voice of reason, realizing that squabbling amongst themselves can only have detrimental effects on a team that just recently got knocked out of Europe and hovering perilously close to the relegation zone in the Serie A.

“We have to stay united because we have every chance of sorting things out,” said Siviglia. “I’m talking about the dressing room and also to our fans. We aren’t robots. We are humans who sometimes fall out.

“We are still in a position to return to form, but we need to react to the situation that has left us in the wrong half of the table. This is the time to give a strong signal and we have to show that we aren’t far from being the side we have been. This has been a period of suffering from injuries and other problems, but we can come through.”

The Biancoceleste will be looking to put their stopper’s words into action with a good result against Napoli in Coppa Italia action on Wednesday, before trying to do the same from a very tricky looking trip to Palermo on the weekend.

QUOTE
Rossi: I'm in charge here
Tuesday 18 December, 2007

Lazio Coach Delio Rossi has confirmed an argument with defender Guglielmo Stendardo. “I make the decisions, he did not agree.”

There were reports of a locker room bust-up between the two men this week and Stendardo is not included in the squad for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia encounter with Napoli.

“Professionals must put themselves at the disposal of the team. There is nothing on the contract about guaranteeing a starting place,” warned the tactician.

“If someone is a constant fixture in the side it is because they earned it on the pitch. I make the decisions, he did not agree.”

This boosts reports that Stendardo is set for a January transfer away from the Olimpico.

“Whoever thinks he is too big for Lazio would do well to tell the club, there’s no problem. I want to underline though that Stendardo has not been frozen out. He simply has not been called up for this game and he trained today.”

Rossi was hailed as a hero after taking the Biancocelesti to the Champions League despite a Calciopoli points penalty last season, but their failure to get past the group stage – and not even fall back on a UEFA Cup spot – piled on the pressure.

Following their 3-2 home defeat to Juventus, Lazio are only three points clear of the relegation zone and the Coach knows his job is at risk.

“I am a fighter, I’ve become hardened to difficulties now. I have a contract with Lazio, but if the enthusiasm went out of it then I would evaluate other situations.”
Apparently it all came down from Dellio Rossi having a bit of tantrum after the Juve game. I dunno was Stendardo specifically targeted or what, but apparently the defender has also demanded a transfer come June according to another channel4.com article.

And the latest keeper that Lazio have been linked with.....former Viola loanee, Bogden Lobont:

QUOTE
Lazio look to Lobont?
Tuesday 18 December, 2007

Lazio’s hunt for a new goalkeeper could lead them to Romanian international Bogdan Lobont.

The Biancocelesti are still trying to replace veteran Angelo Peruzzi, who retired in the summer, and they have been forced to hand the gloves to the 43-year-old Marco Ballotta.

Ballotta has been heavily criticised for his inconsistent performances this term and Uruguayan custodian Fernando Muslera hasn’t impressed when called upon.

Lazio had agreed a £5m deal with River Plate for young Argentine custodian Juan Pablo Carrizo, but the transfer has been jeopardised by bureaucratic complications.

Carrizo has applied for an Italian passport, but his application has met with unexpected complications and may not be completed by January.

Lobont played against Lazio for Dynamo Bucharest in the Champions League preliminary round and has been on the Aquile’s shopping list since.

The 29-year-old has 61 caps for Romania and has Serie A experience after spending last season with Fiorentina.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Lazio are ready to open talks with Dynamo in January and could offer a fee to bring him to the Stadio Olimpico on loan.

Cragnotti seeks Lazio comeback
Former Lazio President Sergio Cragnotti – who took the club to the brink of bankruptcy – has offered to help current patron Claudio Lotito.

“During my stay in Madrid it was very exciting and moving to see so much affection from the Lazio fans. Many people asked me to come back,” Cragnotti told Nuova Spazio Radio.

“Would I return? My affection for this club shall never wane. I have some family issues to sort out right now, but we will see what the future holds.

“The problem is that the future of Lazio depends on President Lotito and his choices. The others can only observe his work and eventually offer some important projects.”

It would be a shock comeback for Cragnotti, whose reign saw the Biancocelesti win the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Cup Winners’ Cup, but also a total financial collapse in 2002 that forced him to sell up to Lotito.

However, Lazio’s Ultras have long been at war with Lotito, who they accuse of penny-pinching and mistreating their favourite players, such as Tommaso Rocchi, Angelo Peruzzi and Paolo Di Canio.

“I am at Lotito’s disposal, if he decides to begin a winning project,” added Cragnotti.

“I don’t know if Lotito will accept my proposal of collaboration, seeing as he likes to do everything by himself. For now let us put our faith in this President.

“My only criticism right now is that, having restructured the club, he is not planning for that step up in quality. The Lazio fans deserve to know their side’s real prospects.”

Coach Delio Rossi has also complained following their Champions League exit that the team was not reinforced with enough strength in depth during the summer transfer dealings.

“If I were to return to Lazio, I would try to take them back where they belong, as this is not a provincial side,” added the former patron.

“A winning strategy is de rigueur for a club like this. We will see if I can find a financial backer to help me in this quest.”

That is so Interesting.

Serie A Preview: Palermo - Lazio

Who: Palermo(6th, 24 points) - Lazio(13th, 17 points)
When: 1400 UK, Sunday December 23
Where: Stadio Barbera, Palermo

Three crucial points will be at stake in the Sicilian capital as both Palermo and Lazio look to strengthen their position before the New Year.

Are Lazio Really Underachieving?

There has been much talk this year about Lazio’s disappointing domestic and European form.

They made an early exit from the Champion’s League by finishing bottom of their group in what was considered one of the easiest groups of the group stage.

It must be said that Real Madrid were always the favorites, but the likes of Werder Bremen and Olympiacos were opposition that a club of Lazio’s stature should not have a problem with.

Club President Claudio Lotito has failed to re-enforce the squad for the vigors of a long hard season. The squad available to Coach Delio Rossi was too thin and lacking explosiveness.

Last season Lazio benefited from having their rivals penalized for their Calciopoli involvement. This season with everyone at full strength, the Aquile run the risk of missing out on Europe.

Palermo Heading In The Right Direction

Palermo have got their season back on track with two consecutive victories. The wins came at a crucial time for the Rosanero, who seemed to be in a crisis with the firing of Stefano Colantuono and re-hiring of Francesco Guidolin.

The new/old boss had a very disappointing beginning to his tenure on the Palermo bench as the squad lost 3-1 in the Sicilian derby to Catania.

But after beating two of Serie A’s more impressive sides in Atalanta and Fiorentina, the team will look to get another win over the struggling capital city club.

Guidolin has brought back the trident attack to the mix as Cavani, Miccoli, and Amauri have seemed hit their stride recently. Amauri is unstoppable at the moment while Miccoli and Cavani are providing the creativity that the team have been lacking.

Team News

Palermo

First choice goalkeeper Alberto Fontana has suffered an injury in training so youngster Federico Agliardi will take his spot.

He has been very inconsistent since his move from Brescia and will need a good showing in order to have the Rosanero faithful’s support.

Probable Starting XI- Agliardi; Zaccardo, Biava, Barzagli, Capuano; Guana, Migliaccio, Simplicio; Cavani, Miccoli; Amauri

Lazio

Delio Rossi has huge holes to fill as Goran Pandev is out injured and replaced by Makinwa. Meanwhile injuries to Behrami, Zauri and Diakhite will leave big holes in defence.

Probable Starting XI- Ballotta; Scaloni, Siviglia, Cribari, De Silvestri; Mudingayi, Ledesma, Mutarelli; Mauri; Makinwa, Rocchi

Players To Watch

Palermo- Amauri- As long as he stays healthy, he is the engine of the Rosanero offence. The focus will stay on him as the talk of his move to a larger club intensifies.

Lazio- Tommaso Rocchi- With speculation of him signing a new contract heating up, be sure he will want to make a statement and show everyone he is well worth the money.

Prediction

Palermo are in good nick while Lazio have been struggling with injuries and poor form all season. Expect the Sicilians to have an impressive game and shut down the Aquile.

Agent explains Rocchi row
Monday 24 December, 2007

Tommaso Rocchi’s agent insists his future is at Lazio despite yesterday’s televised bust-up between the player and President Claudio Lotito.

Italian TV cameras caught Rocchi and Lotito have a minor disagreement after the 2-2 draw at Palermo, a tiff which has simply fuelled the transfer rumour mill.

It’s a common fact that talks over Rocchi’s contract extension have stalled and Sunday’s events are seeing the Italian linked with an Olimpico exit.

However, Rocchi’s representative has looked to cool the speculation by explaining what actually occurred at the Stadio Barbera.

“It had nothing to do with his contract at all,” Fabio Parisi noted on Monday morning. “And it’s not true that there is no good feeling between the two.

“Tommaso has said on numerous occasions that he wants to stay at Lazio and that is in the interest of club and player.

“Nothing happened at all. They talked about the game in the changing rooms and then came across each other after the match.

“Lotito wanted to continue discussing the tie, but Rocchi didn’t fancy doing that in front of the TV cameras.”

Monaco, Napoli and Genoa are all thought to be keen on landing the former Empoli player, but Parisi insists that Lazio come first.

“Rocchi wants to be rewarded for his market value and Lazio need to take into account what he can give to them,” the agent continued.

“There are negotiations going on with the club and they are continuing.”

Despite Parisi’s statement, Rocchi’s name will inevitably take up some significant newspaper column inches with the January transfer window set to open.

Two Month Stop For Meghni
Lazio coach Delio Rossi will have to reckon without promising young midfielder Mourad Meghni for at least the next eight weeks.
The 23-year-old Frenchman injured his thigh during the Coppa Italia match against Napoli in midweek and scans have now confirmed that he faces a lengthy layoff.

Although Meghni is yet to really settle at the Olimpico since arriving in the summer from Bologna, Rossi will be disappointed by the news as the youngster has every potential to become a match winner.

The former Sochaux standout was once rated as one of the most promising players in European football, with the French-Algerian being labelled as the ‘little Zinedine Zidane’. Thus far, he has only been able to show a flash of that kind of brilliance during the 2-1 Champions League win against Werder Bremen in early November.

Lazio could really do with even an ounce of Zidane-like magic, as their hopelessly inconsistent form so far means that they will be going into the second-half of the season still perilously close to the relegation zone.

Lazio is jinxed they had suffered a lot of injuries so far.

Pandev set for Bayern

Lazio striker Goran Pandev has admitted that a move to Bayern Munich could be on the cards in the summer.

The Macedonian ace has been a key figure at the Stadio Olimpico since arriving from Inter in 2004, with his goals helping the outfit qualify for the Champions League last term.

However, things have turned sour this time out as the Biancocelesti have been woeful in Serie A and exited the European Cup in the group stage.

That seems to have convinced Pandev that his future is in Munich, although there is also interest from England and Spain.

“My managers and the two clubs will meet for final talks – that is when everything will be known and whether I will be heading to Munich,” revealed the 24-year-old.

“There has been also interest from Liverpool and Valencia, but Bayern has made the most serious approach and by now had several meetings with me, my managers and my club."
dreamlander
That link came up I think a month or two ago as well. With his strike partner Rocchis future uncertain as well, I can understand why Pandev would be looking away from the Olimpico.

Would be a HUGE loss to Lazio I think as for God knows how long, those 2 have been integral to keeping Lazio a float!

Lazio lock down Pandev
Monday 31 December, 2007

Lazio have released a statement denying that Goran Pandev is in negotiations with Bayern Munich.

The Macedonian was quoted on SkySports.com as saying “My managers and the two clubs will meet for final talks – that is when everything will be known and whether I will be heading to Munich.”

The Biancocelesti reacted angrily to this story and released an official statement to quash these rumours.

“With relation to the stories that are totally without foundation, S.S. Lazio repeat that the player Goran Pandev is under a long-term contract and will continue to play for Lazio.

“S.S. Lazio warn anyone against spreading news items that are destabilising and lacking in foundation.”

With Tommaso Rocchi already rumoured to be heading for a January exit after a very public row with President Claudio Lotito – refusing to shake his hand live on television – talk of Pandev also walking out would have infuriated the Lazio fans.

Meanwhile, the club is trying to bring in reinforcements after their elimination from the Champions League.

Argentine defender Diego Daniel Colotto is on their wish list, although the Atlas Guadalajara star is looking for more than the offered £300,000 per season wages.

Udinese midfielder Gyan Asamoah and Empoli defender Francesco Pratali are also targets, although more likely for the summer of 2008.

But here is some fallout from that crazy match, fallout involving now lifelong Lazio Legend, Valon Behrami:

Behrami faces Lazio dilemma
Monday 24 March, 2008

Rome derby hero Valon Behrami is thought to be considering whether to extend his Lazio contract or head for pastures new.

The Swiss international highlighted his ability last week by netting an injury-time winner in the 3-2 triumph over Roma which has raised his profile once more.

Unconfirmed whispers doing the rounds in the Italian capital suggest that the versatile midfielder is being watched by Sevilla, Barcelona and Manchester United.

However, the Biancocelesti are keen to keep hold of their prized asset even though his present contract doesn’t expire until 2010.

It’s understood that the Italian giants want to block the possibility of losing Behrami for a reduced fee under new FIFA legislation and a two-year extension is being mooted.

On the arrival front, radio mercato is suggesting that Lazio chief Claudio Lotito is keen on signing Palermo defender Andrea Barzagli and Chievo attacker Victor Obinna.

I really wouldnt mind have Behrami in my side. I think he is a very good player. Well rounded and still young as well.....plus, according to wikipedias picture, he can make a ball levitate 6 feet off the ground! tongue.gif

i too wouldn't mind him at milan, not in the starting eleven, but as a rotation player for gattuso and ambro. Although, after the rough treatment he gave some of our players when we last met, i reckon there'd be a few people not wanting him anywhere near milanello!

Agreed, it is a shame about the lack of activity in this thread. Since Taib left there hasn't really been a lazio representative among us. The disappointing season lazio are having would hardly have attracted any new members to come and discuss the performance of their team. I guess it's in everyone's best interests then that Lazio pick it up next year and perform a whole lot better!

Hey, Behrami is doing a very good form here in Lazio. I have heard somewhere that Fiorentina will buy them in this summer, but the president of Lazio isn't interesting to sell him out, cause he is in that good form.

Rossi looks to Lazio future
Monday 31 March, 2008

Lazio boss Delio Rossi insists that he won’t be leaving in the summer and is enjoying the Aquile’s recent renaissance.

After a disappointing campaign, Rossi has restored pride with a derby triumph over Roma and last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Inter.

His contract ties him to the Stadio Olimpico for another season, but there have been suggestions that he could be replaced in pre-season.

“I am building my future with the present,” he insisted on Radio Kiss Kiss.

“I have another year on my contract and I think I will respect that. I will sit down with the club to discuss what will happen.”

Lazio were somewhat unfortunate not to claim all three points against Serie A’s reigning champions on Saturday as they struck the woodwork twice.

“The leaders aren’t at their best at the moment,” Rossi stressed. “But they are still the best unit in Serie A in terms of resources and physicality.

“I think we deserved to win on Saturday, given the way we played, but they have so much quality that they can destroy you at any moment.”

In recent weeks there has been some animosity between Rossi and Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti, but the Biancocelesti boss is keen to play down the rift.

“I don’t have a problem because I have great respect for him as a professional and as a man,” he maintained.

“It’s just a shame because it seems that people always create a rivalry between the two Coaches of these teams.”

The next test for Lazio is a trip to the Stadio Tardini to face Parma, whose game with Juventus was postponed due to the death of a Ducali fan at a service station while en route to Turin.

“After what happened yesterday to the Parma fan, I think that Sunday’s game won’t be a game like any other,” Rossi warned.

“It will be a strange Sunday and it will be everything that is bad in football because we should only ever have to talk about what happens on the pitch.”

Well, they're certainly finding that form at the right time, thats for sure. They're probably too far off of the UEFA Cup spots, but they are also pretty much clear of the relegation zone!

So that has Lazio down to 2 strikers again, one of whom is out of contract at the seasons end! Bianchi is not a guarantee for next season, Rocchi is out of contract, Pandev was linked to Bayern in January and may be wanted again. Lazio have a bit of work to do in the summer to hold onto their best players!!!

]One more year for Ballotta
[/b]
Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta - Serie A’s oldest player - is refusing to hang up his gloves at the end of the season.

At the age of 44, Ballotta had been expected to make this campaign his last, but has been the Biancocelesti’s first choice between the posts due to the breakdown of Juan Pablo Carrizo’s transfer from River Plate.

Despite a few howlers, Ballotta’s 27th year in the game has been successful enough to convince the custodian to carry on.

“I will play for another year,” he revealed. “I was going to retire 10 years ago, but then I just carried on and carried on and it has proven to be the right choice.

“Every year I tell myself that this is the last season, but then I always keep going in the end. When I am finally forced to quit it will be a very sad moment for me.”

Ballotta won’t be expecting to play as regularly next term with a new shot-stopper almost certain to arrive and youngster Nestor Muslera reportedly growing in confidence.

That sucks, he is too old to play for another year and Lazio must give chance to another goalies.
Catania
Lazio down 1-0 and have two red cards so far in only the 60th minute!!!

Lotito: Lazio need new arena

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has outlined his desire to build the Biancocelesti a new stadium all of their own.

The Aquilotti currently share the Stadio Olimpico with city rivals Roma, but Lotito believes that a new home is essential both for the team and the economical health of the club.

“If we were to have stadiums with different characteristics, we would have different gate receipts,” explained Lotito.

“If I were to succeed in my project of constructing a ground solely for Lazio, the Biancocelesti could cash £80m more every season which could be invested in the team.”

The 50-year-old Roman took control of Lazio in 2004 after former owner Sergio Cragnotti left the club in serious financial trouble.

“We have invested £42m and I am also paying debts I inherited when I took over. Players contracts need to be in line with where we are and, unfortunately, our gate receipts are falling.”

Italian clubs rarely own their stadiums, making their upkeep a secondary concern. Some have blamed the state of Italian grounds for football violence and declining attendance numbers.

Italy had hoped that money would come for new stadia from a successful bid to host Euro 2012, but the event went to Poland and Ukraine instead.

Whether Lotito’s proposal will ever come to fruition depends on the outcome of the Roman mayoral election which is being held at the moment.

One of the candidates has expressed a desire to help both Roma and Lazio build new arenas.

It is time Italian teams starts thinking about having there own stadium.
