1. Juninho Pernambucano (Lyon), 15 remates (450m)
2. Óscar Cardozo (Benfica), 14 remates (348m)
3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd), 12 remates (447m)
4. Ruud van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid), 12 remates (450m)
5. Kaká (Milan), 11 remates (450m)
Cardozo has had more shots in the Champions League than C.Ronaldo and Kaka yet he has only scored once. I really feel sorry for the guy that he hasn't been able to score on a regular basis yet and find some form. I am still optimistic that he will come good.

Agreed. Shame we didn't by Miccoli when we had the chance.

Cardozo needs a better support striker. Nuno Gomes is definitely not that. I am still confused to whether Adu is an attacking mid or striker. It seems like he is better in the striker position than the "No. 10" role, he could possibly be a solution but I think he also needs time
SCP Guy
Do you think this guy will turn it around? Is he still just getting accustomed to the Portuguese game? He has not shown me very much yet but Im not sure how much of that has to do with him not being up to speed ..... I do think a player you pay almost 10 million for should be able to create on his own and not rely on another striker to help him dry.gif

I just thought it was funny how you were dissing him than he scored 2 big goals lol.

can u guys please continue to diss him biggrin.gif lol

He's shown that he has confidence going one on one with the keeper cus he went around this one today and against nacional it was a calm neat finish.

His heading still needs to improve. Todays header was right in the middle of the goal and it looked like the keeper thought it was going over or something because he didnt really stretch and then made some pathetic dive. lol

I wouldnt think his whole season is gonna change cus of this game because he did score against celtic and we all thought his season would pick up from there but nothing happened so im not gettin my hopes up.

He is a good player, been very unlucky at times. Today he finally delivered. His goals were good because there was no way Nuno Gomes would of done the same. Cardozo relies on service, if our players can deliver, he will deliver I am sure.
AGUIA-SLB
hopefully after today, gomes will continue to stay on the bench where he deserves to be (well actually he doesnt deserve to be in Benfica).

Lol you never seen Nuno score that kind of goals?

Cardozo had a good game though yesterday and should start next game to see if his form really is picking up.

Love the way Cardozo is just as wasteful as Nuno but he's "unlucky" while Nuno is just shit....

The goals were nothin special and its unfair to say that nuno has never scored like that.

Haha. So true. When cardozo misses they probably applaud him and when nuno gomes misses they wanna kill him.

Cardozo should start next game and nuno should come on off the bench in da second half. If nuno starts on the bench for a couple of games he will gain that fire and will wanna regain his spot.
NY State Of Mind.
I just want him to well as a Paraguayan. It's funny When I was in Paraguay two years ago I stayed there for 8 months, and He was playing on a small team called Nacional. I was surprised when he went to newell's , then he started scoring goals and I thought "Is this the same 'Tacuara' Cardozo? Nah, it can't be". Now he's in Benfica and to be honest I still don't know if this guy can be relied on for consistent goals. Hopefully he'll do good, he hasn't done anything yet on the Paraguayan national team though.

Nuno Gomes did score goals of that kind.....a while ago though.

There is no way on earth Nuno Gomes would of scored those 2 chances Cardozo took yesterday. He simply does not have the movement or coordination to do stuff like that anymore. The header was well taken and the first goal involved anticipation, something Nuno lacks.

Well his goal scoring record in Newell's was brilliant. He got Paraguayan footballer of the year. Hopefully he can perform consistently for Benfica and Paraguay
CowSimão
I agree, Nuno Gomes wouldn't have scored those goals yesterday if he started instead of Cardozo. We're not talking about 2 years ago, it's NOW the present that's important.

Nuno Gomes sucks because he hasn't been scoring goals consistently for 2 seasons already and we're tired of seeing him miss easy sitters a 10 year old could even score. I'd rather invest in Cardozo who has a goalscoring record in Argentina and see if he can replicate this in Europe.

Think of investing money for example. Are you going to invest in some bankrupt company just because they were rich 5 years ago? No because they are going to stay bankrupt so we gotta move on. Not the best comparison but it gets the point across.
Portista
Gomes wouldn't even score that second goal, he would've of just made it LOOK like hes doing a header or do a dive and not get a PK lol.

Cardozo já cumpriu um dos jogos do castigo, visto que não marcou presença na partida da segunda-mão dos oitavos-de-final da Taça UEFA. Pelo que na próxima temporada não poderá marcar presença em mais dois jogos.

Total do passe garantido

According to OJOGO, Benfica now own Oscar 100%. We purchased the last remaining 20% of his pass.

Benfica Reject English Mega Offers For Cardozo

Benfica have rejected big money offers for Óscar Cardozo from Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Manchester City in recent weeks, according to reports in Portugal.

The Paraguayan international scored a total of 22 goals for Benfica in his first season in Europe and his performances did not go unnoticed, specially in England.

O Jogo reports that Newcastle's coach, Kevin Keegan, was eager to take Cardozo to St. James' Park, but the Portuguese club rejected his offer worth €25m.

It is also believed that Benfica have rejected approaches from Manchester City and, most recently, Tottenham, who offered €15mn for the 25-year-old striker.

Cardozo, meanwhile, stated that he is very happy with life at Benfica and that he does not want to leave the club this soon.

"Over the next few days I will know if there is anything, but honestly I am here to win titles, specially the league title and I do not want to think about anything else," he told Record.

"I have four years left in my contract, I get along with everyone and I will only leave the club after being champion.

Tacuara also indicated that he believes in Rui Costa's project and has full trust in the new coach, Quique Flores.

"I do not know how he is as a coach, because I do not know him, but he is certainly very good, otherwise Rui Costa would not have appointed him," Cardozo noted.

"We will have many games to play and we will have to start winning from the beginning to be champions and reach the Champions League. Benfica will build a great team, with the purpose of winning the title.

"I hope Benfica will sign some key-players for our team to get very strong."

Cardozo, who joined As Águias from Newell's Old Boys for a fee in the region of €11m, is believed to have a release clause of €50 million attached to his contract.
Apparently we rejected a 25million euro bid. I really hope Cardozo has a better season than last year or we are going to regret this. Just like Inter Milan could of sold Adriano to Real Madrid a few seasons back laugh.gif

Personally I agree on keeping him though, it is a gamble but this squad needs stability.
CowSimão
I wouldn't have accepted 15 million but 25 million is a lot! As much as I would like to see him stay, 25 million is too good to refuse imo.

Cardozo Wants Benfica Stay
Benfica striker Óscar Cardozo wants to stay at Estádio da Luz, his agent has claimed.

The Paraguayan hit-man joined Benfica from Newell's Old Boys nearly a year ago for a fee of €11 million and rattled in 22 goals in his first season with the Eagles.

He had reportedly been placed on Benfica's transfer list following the appointment of Quique Flores as coach but a transfer away from Estádio da Luz never materialized.

El Tacuara has been in sensational form in Benfica's pre-season so far, scoring three goals in the three games he has played.

He scored the winning goal against Feyenoord on Saturday and has told his representative, Pedro Aldave, he wants to stay at the club despite the transfer rumours.

"Cardozo is very happy with this pre-season start at Benfica. He does not want to leave the club because he is convinced this is Benfica's year. The signings that have been made have excited him and he has already told me he will fight to be a starter in every game.

"Yesterday [Saturday] he made another great game and he loved not only the team's performance but also the ovation he got when he was replaced. He will do a great season, he wants to stay at Benfica and he is only thinking about titles because he believes the club have the team to win the league."
Really good news. I like the way Cardozo has been playing in preseason.
AGUIA-SLB
so wait i dont get it. Flores puts all strikers that are scoring right now on the transfer list?

He's been fantastic. He always had the potential he just needed to take some more shots.
El Comandante
On a side note, the 100% of Cardozo's rights cost a total of 11.2m €
Luisao
I think we should always spend large amounts on players. Think about it. Cardozo wasn't the most convincing early last season, but we weren't going to loan him or sell him off after spending 11 million euros on him. Instead we stuck with him and he scored 22 goals in total at the end of the year. Now he's back, motivated, and scoring goals in pre season.

Maybe if we paid a lot of money for Bergessio, Carlitos, Coentrao, and Adu they'd still be on the team showing us how good they are, instead of being sold off/loaned quickly.

Obviously I know we can't go around doing that, but it's interesting just thinking about it. The flip side to this would be paying a ridiculous amount of money for Beto..... laugh.gif

I don't think the story is true. He scored like 22 goals last year?

As if Rui Costa would allow him to leave....unless it was an astronomical amount.

Apparently Cardozo has also been removed from the rest of the team in training by Quique Flores for showing a lack of respect. He is going though some tough times it seems as well.

Can't really say I blame Quique on this move, as the manger he needs total control and he is enforcing a good direction on the team by doing this.

I hope not.

Just today Cardozo's agent said, if Benfica want to sell him, he will leave.

If we end up selling Cardozo, it will be the biggest mistake since Freddy Adu got loaned out with a fee release clause of 5m.

But we're already crashing and burning. We have a dysfunctional side who have drawn their opening two matches and can't stitch five passes together. Aimar will leave, embittered. Reyes will hop back to Atleti with his cheeky little grin. Cardozo will go to Germany. Yebda will get head-hunted by some Premier League team. And Quique will quit by Christmas.

And here we were, made to think that this season would be different from the rest sad.gif
Marcus_Antonius
Well, in pre-season there was a new energy about the club. Rui Costa was (and is) doing a fabulous job, bringing in players left right and centre; money was available, we brought in a young manager promising to build a great team. Every time something happens at Benfica it acts as a kind of propaganda - the papers speculate, the radio discusses it, the TV talks about it all the time - because we're BENFICA.

All this stuff - Eusebio, the eagle, the big names like Aimar and Reyes - all this has nothing whatsoever to do with 'reality'. It's the sign of a club steeped in greatness and tradition pretending to itself that it's still a worthy global power with a name which commands respect in the present tense. We're now realising that we can't just build a team from scratch and win anything and that we're not suddenly rich; the reality is this season is all or nothing. We simply HAVE to break into the top two at the very least for economic reasons and for reasons of prestige. Portuguese football's relegation to a sub-Romanian level in the eyes of UEFA means only 2 teams can get a shot at a CL campaign and we HAVE to be among them or we face the path to liquidation. There was no way on God's earth we could have done that with last season's squad, so the plan was simple: go all-out to create a super-team that would override any problems with management and technical affairs with its sheer quality. The problem is that you just can't do that in football.

Cardozo is a symbol. He is our goalscorer and a player who could be a hero to us or a big signing for a foreign club. If he stays, it's a sign we're going places. If he jumps ship...
Mago_9
Don't get too worked up yet guys.

Quique Flores is just doing what any good manger would do in this case and Cardozo seems like a smart guy, he will smarten up. He just has a lot of pressure at the moment apparently (Hasn't scored for his national team in a long time and is getting burned for it, problems with one of his kids I believe). Quique Flores isn't just doing this to piss off Cardozo, he already stated he was one of the Important players on the team and didn't like subbing him against Porto.

This experience, if properly handled, will make the team stronger in the end, a good team is being built on and off the field.

Well, the thing about all the players leaving was meant as a bit of a joke. But there is already a crisis looming, I think it's obvious. It depends on how we react. Let's wait for the Napoli games and the derby with Sporting, then I think we can judge.
