Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that John Terry has signed a new five-year contract.
The Chelsea and England captain put pen to paper at the Cobham training ground earlier today (Friday, July 27).
Terry said: "I'm really happy this has now been concluded. There has been a lot of speculation but these things take time and I never had doubts that I wanted to stay at Chelsea and that the club wanted me to stay.
"I hope the fans can see that we are all trying to build something special here, both for now and for the future, and I want to be a part of that. I have been at Chelsea all my career and have the privilege of being captain.
"Now it's time to look forward to the new season which we are all very confident about."
Terry had just over two years to go on his previous deal, which is now superseded by the new one.
Kenyon said: "This is an important day for Chelsea. This was the right deal for us and for John. As a club we are committed to try and keep our players together on long term deals and this was a natural progression from last season when other players also committed themselves for the long term.
"As captain, John is clearly a key player for Chelsea and also a great symbol of the club so naturally we are pleased this has been agreed."

Chelsea captain John Terry has signed a new five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Terry has been locked in talks with Chelsea over a new contract for the last few months.
Talks had reached deadlock earlier this summer, but discussions were revived during Chelsea's tour of Los Angeles earlier this month.
All parties have now managed to agree a new deal and Terry will now remain at Chelsea until 2012.
Terry was delighted to resolve his future and he is looking forward to enjoying more success with the club.
"I'm really happy this has now been concluded," Terry told the club's official website.
"There has been a lot of speculation but these things take time and I never had doubts that I wanted to stay at Chelsea and that the club wanted me to stay.

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon hailed the news of Terry's new contract.
"This is an important day for Chelsea. This was the right deal for us and for John," said Kenyon.
"As a club we are committed to try and keep our players together on long term deals and this was a natural progression from last season when other players also committed themselves for the long term.

Great news. It was only a matter of time before he signed on anyway, there was no doubt this bloke would turn down a contract from Chelsea. Now for him to enjoy a successful, injury free season and back to his best form.

Terry finally agrees new five-year Chelsea deal
Chelsea captain John Terry has signed a new five-year contract with the Premier League club.
The England skipper put pen to paper today to end months of speculation over his future.
Terry had a little over two years to run on his previous contract, which is superseded by the new one, meaning he is now committed to the Stamford Bridge club until 2012.
Terry told the club's website: 'I'm really happy this has now been concluded.
'There has been a lot of speculation but these things take time and I never had any doubts that I wanted to stay at Chelsea and that the club wanted me to stay.
'I hope that the fans can see that we are all trying to build something special here, both for now and for the future, and I want to be a part of that.
'I have been at Chelsea all my career and have the privilege of being captain. Now it's time to look forward to the new season, which we are all very confident about.'
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon echoed Terry's delight that an agreement had been reached after months of wrangling.
'This is an important day for Chelsea,' he said. 'This was the right deal for us, and for John.
'As a club we are committed to try to keep our players together on long-term deals, and this was a natural progression from last season when other players also committed themselves for the long term.
'As captain, John is clearly a key player for Chelsea and also a great symbol of the club, so naturally we are very pleased this has been agreed.'
After coming through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge, Terry made his Blues debut against Aston Villa in October 1998, and he succeeded Marcel Desailly as captain ahead of the 2004-05 season.
He led Jose Mourinho's side to consecutive Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006 and his determined performances at the heart of the Chelsea defence prompted England manager Steve McClaren to name him skipper upon his appointment last summer.
In all, Terry, 26, has amassed 39 caps for England.

John Hollins questions the deal:
QUOTE
Hollins Questions Terry's Chelsea Deal
The announcemnt that Chelsea captain John Terry has signed a new five-year contract with the London club worth a reported £130,000 a week until 2012 has alarmed former Blues midfielder and manager John Hollins - who fears the deal could undermine Chelsea's wage structure.
"What worries me is the others in the team, playing the same number of games - would they settle for £80-90,000 now?" asked Hollins on BBC Radio Five Live.
"John is a Chelsea man through and through and this brings him up to the same pay level to where Shevchenko is.
"But Petr Czech - would he go on £130,000 a week? Would Ricardo Carvalho, who has been a stalwart at the back when John Terry was out?
"How do you gauge a footballer? Is it because he is an England player?"
Terry's importance to Chelsea is undeniable. The 26-year-old England captain has already made more than 300 appearances for the club, and manager Jose Mourinho made it a priority to ensure he signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.
Terry told Chelsea's website: "I'm really happy this has been concluded. There has been a lot of speculation but these things take time.
"I never had any doubts that I wanted to stay at Chelsea and that the club wanted me to stay."
Both Terry and England team-mate Frank Lampard have been discussing long-term contracts with the club for several months.
They were allegedly delaying signing new deals because they were unhappy that last season's big summer signings, Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack, were being paid more than them.
Hollins, 61, who made 455 appearances in two spells with Chelsea as a player, then managed the club between 1985 nd 1988, added: "Now Terry has signed, it is evident they must also get Frank signed or find out what he is going to do.
"I still think there is doubt there. He wants parity with everybody but the crunch is if he gets £130,000 will he sign or will he want more?
"It's been a long time trying to get this thing nailed down. Once it is done fine, but the longer it goes on there will be interest from other massive clubs who may say, 'OK, we'll pay that.'"

Perhaps not at the moment, because reportedly we have 3 players on £120k or more. Once Ballack and Sheva leave it should pipe down a bit. I'm happy with the captain who's coming through the ranks earning that money, but we can't give in to every tom, dick and harry's contract demands.
But yeah, I can see it creating problems in the run.

But yeah, I can see it creating problems in the run.
The problem with that is though, is that there'll always be a player in the team who rises in importance, and will then use the highest paid players as benchmarks. Essien is quickly becoming your most important midfielder (he arguably already is), what's to stop him asking for parity with Terry and Lampard (who will likely get a similar contract) next summer? Because the club has raised the bar with respect to how much money players can hope to ask for, you could easily have 5 or 6 players making well over £120k a week by this time next year.
_________
Jul 28 2007, 08:01 AM
We could do, but Essien is unlikely to ask for a new one, he only just signed one.
The only player who needs renewing is Cech - all our other highly important players have new ones signed recently. Drogba, Carvalho, Terry, Essien etc. Sure, in 2-3 years time it might be a problem again, but as I said, With Sheva and Ballack likely to leave in that time period, we can afford to put a couple faces on higher contracts. Cech, Essien, and Terry are the only three we need to worry about there because the others - Drogba, Carvalho, and Lamps are all approaching 29/30 and likeliness is that they won't be at the club in 2-3 years.
I severely doubt we'll have 5-6 players on 120k+ by this time next year.
lazyD
Jul 28 2007, 08:32 AM
I think Cech will be given a £120,000 a week deal. So will Lampard. That makes it 5 players and it really is scary.
Swifty
Jul 28 2007, 01:11 PM
Apparently it's £135k per week worth a staggering £35.1million according to the Daily Mail.
Unbelievable amount footballers get paid these days.
Beckham is still the highest paid footballer; $250 million for 5 years. $50 million a year to play MLS in beautiful California.

Chelsea's John Terry says he is 'disappointed' at Emmanuel Petit's suggestion that he let England down by missing his country's final Euro 2008 qualifier.
Petit hit out at Terry and fellow Blues team-mate Ashley Cole after the duo sat out the Croatia game, which saw England fail to qualify for the finals after a 3-2 defeat, but were back for their club the following weekend.
And Terry has reacted angrily to Petit's comments, insisting that he did everything within his power to ensure he had a chance of starting against Croatia.
"I'm really disappointed, especially since I played with him at Chelsea for about three years," he said in The Sun.
Risk
"He should know more than most what I'm like, my character and how much I fight to play. That was the case with my recent operation and the Croatia game.
"I managed to squeeze in two training sessions before the game. One was with Chelsea's youth team and the other was with England.
"That was after surgery and five weeks out. I was not 100 per cent but gave it a go.
"I was in constant touch with Steve McClaren and the England medical team, informing them of my progress.
"Even Chelsea knew how much it meant to me to play for England despite it being such a risk.
"But it was decided I would be doing neither myself nor England any favours by playing and I agreed to sit it out.
Hypocrite
"I don't normally respond to criticism but when it is someone criticising my commitment to England I feel I have to come out and stick up for myself."
Terry also questioned Petit's decision to lambast the Blues duo following the Frenchman's refusal to fly out to Israel with Chelsea in October 2001 for a Uefa Cup match because he thought it was too dangerous.
"How can anyone question my attitude? Especially someone who did not play in Israel for personal reasons when 17-year-olds travelled," he concluded.
haha, ouch @ the last line. He's right though, anyone who questions why Terry didn't play is a spaz. Terry would have played without a doubt, if he could.
Good to see him come out in defence of himself.

One L of a pressie from JT EXCLUSIVE By Laurie Hanna 27/12/2007
England football captain John Terry spent thousands treating Chelsea trainees to driving lessons.
His Christmas presents for the club's £90-a-week youth players are a course of lessons worth hundreds of pounds each.
A source said: "It was a fantastic gesture by JT.
"All the young lads really respect him for what he has achieved in the game. For him to do something like this for them means a lot to them.
"As club captain he told them they need to be ready to get behind the wheels of their new flash cars when they sign professional contracts.
"It's a real incentive for them to push themselves that bit harder."
A friend added: "John did the same thing a few years ago. It's becoming something of a tradition."
Terry, 27, is known for generous gestures at the West London club, including paying for staff nights out. He has also forked out for team paintball and go-karting days.
Terry reveals how he helped stranded Chelsea fans tribalfooball.com - March 01, 2008
Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed how he helped some fans during their away trip to Olympiacos.
Olympiacos will be no pushovers as they demonstrated in Athens, but their lack of attacking ambition should see Chelsea overcome the Greeks to progress into the quarter-finals.
Terry is hoping the Stamford Bridge faithful will help them to make it another special European night.
In the first leg, although he did not play, Terry turned good Samaritan to help out some ticketless fans.
Terry explained: "What really stands out for me is the trip to Olympiacos.
"You realise how many went over, in their thousands and, as we were circling in the air because of the snow, we had to wait an hour and a half before we landed. There was talk of landing in Corfu and travelling to Athens from there.
"Sitting on the plane, it was disappointing for us, but my instant thought was that the fans have to go through the same thing. I saw them at the game, and managed to get a few tickets for some fans that had gone over without them on the off chance. They were at the hotel, tried their luck and fortunately I could help.
"There were about 50 fans, I only had three, but at least I could give them away. I just hope they enjoyed the game.
"Never do we take for granted what Chelsea fans do for us, whether it be at home or travelling away and around Europe. It's amazing the passion they show for the club, and we owe it to them."
Another great gesture, what a legend.

Champions League final: Chelsea deny John Terry-Carlos Tevez spitting incident
By Charlie Caroe Last Updated: 7:35pm BST 22/05/2008
Defeated Champions League finalists Chelsea have issued a strong denial regarding the "spitting" incident involving captain John Terry and Manchester United's Carlos Tevez.
The Luzhniki Stadium runners-up have fiercely denied that any spitting took place. But in televised footage of the game Terry, who was making his return to the Chelsea team following 10 days out with a dislocated elbow, was seen approaching the Manchester United forward, and wiping his nose on his own sleeve.
Tevez rubbed the back of his neck after the England international walked away, suggesting something else may have occurred.
While the evidence was inconclusive, the episode added more misery to a night that Terry will hope to forget as soon as possible.
As well as being the losing captain in the first all-English Champions League final, Terry also missed the chance to lift the trophy for his side in front of club owner Roman Abramovich.
After Cristiano Ronaldo's spotkick had been saved by Petr Cech in the penalty shoot-out, Terry had the opportunity to secure a first European Cup for the west London side, but he slipped and his penalty struck the upright to bring United back into the contest.
When Nicolas Anelka subsequently failed to convert his kick, Terry's tears were only too evident, and now he will be hoping to put the events in the Luzhniki Statdium behind him.
Here's the footage, you judge.
For me its 50/50 if it did happen, but it seems like the intention was there anyways.

The footage is far too inconclusive to be fair. So I really can't say what has happened. I would have to say it's 50-50. Just because Tevez rubs his neck after the incident doesn't mean that Terry spat on his neck.
