heard it on the news, can anyone confirm it?
Courtsy
Nothing confirmed, just speculation.

A nice money-spinning gimmick would be right up the alley of our club, though.
vyacheslav
I really hope it doesn't happen, such a gimmicky thing that I don't think the club really needs, especially since the money goes to the league rather than just to us (i think)
rafty
i hear you vyacheslav. fuck beckham. so gimicky.

Pahh please, you guys are so jealous that Sydney got the nod for this event, everyone benefited from it and you guys got the nerve to even knock back such speculation...I hope this dosnt happen Melbourne certainly dosnt deserve what Sydney got that night...

Would seriously be more interested if it was a aleague select 11 v mls select 11 but they should play it at the MCG,
There's Only One United
It worked well once and was a massive success in Sydney but to bring LA Galaxy back to Australia again to Melbourne shouldn't happen. That event worked so well that if they brought them out again it surely couldn't be as good and it wouldn't demand the same attention. Melbourne like to be the first at doing things so to follow what Sydney did 12 months earlier would be strange. They should focus on playing some top European clubs if they want to go down that avenue which will hopefully happen during pre-season next year as suggested by the FFA a few weeks ago. The only time Becks should come back to Australia is if England play Australia or for a holiday.

That what i was thinking after the match walking back to the car, but more of an aleague XI VS Rest of the world XI (dosnt have to be necessarily R10,Messi,C.Ronaldo etc..) but alot of stars...that be great

Also for Melbourne i might have been bit harsh ^^ but dont forget you guys had Argentina a few months ago tongue.gif

I went to both so it dosnt matter haha

Don't know if you remember but a World Stars team came and played Australia in 1999 to open Stadium Australia in Sydney with the lineup shown below which got about 80-90k to the game.

Bernard Lama (Jorge Campos 46), Okan Buruk (Shaun Bartlett 46), Julio Cesar, Leonardo, Lucas Radebe (Hany Ramzy 46), Rigobert Song, Taribo West (Javier Margas 46), Ilya Tsymbalar (Wynton Rufer 63), Christian Vieri, Murat Yakin (Matthew Le Tissier 78), Juergen Klinsmann (Marco Branka 46)

With the right players there's no reason why it couldn't work again although things like that don't happen often these days. Not sure how an A-League v MLS match would work but I'd love to see it and I'm sure the Melbourne public would get right behind it whatever it is as they love their sport.

Heard on the news it was going to be at the MCG, bit of a mistake there but I guess they are hoping for a sellout. Its not a bad move, galaxy should be a much better team by the end of next year to what sydney faced, just not sure if it will generate the same sort of hype as the sydney one did, i'm sure they could fill the dome but the mcg? Plus you'd have to be lucky to get the same sort of perfect friendly match sydney did as well.
rafty
i still say Celtic should come down here.

I want to see players who I admire for their skill rather than name. So yes, seeing McGeady would be much nicer than seeing Beckham, perfect example. MCGEADY IS FUCKING CLASS (sorry that slips out whenever i think of him).

And if we miss Beckham's pin point free kick accuracy.... "Walking Nakamura wonderland..."

Imagine Scott McDonald playing in front of a huge Melbourne crowd..oh yes.

OK youv made your point, but you dont represent 80 000+ fans like the other night, i can bet my left nut that a Celtic V Melbourne game wouldnt get half the MCG filled..
ragnarok
Friendlies are either marketing gimmicks or training exercises, and should be treated as such, and seeing as no doubt melbourne want to make as much money as possible and get as much exposure as possible its clear that you would go for the pulling power of beckham, plus could you imagine the hassle of getting a halfway decent side out here? At least with galaxy you only have beckham to make sure plays a full game.

I wonder how quickly I'd be lynched by an angry mob of Celtic fans if I started some pro-Rangers chants ... g.gif

In actual fact, we should get the mighty 'Gers down here for a friendly. After all, they are the most successful club in terms of trophies of any team anywhere in the world thumbsup.gif
