Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has revealed that the club are negotiating a deal to bring Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar to the club.

The 24-year-old signed for Ajax from Heerenveen in 2005 and he has since hit 76 goals in just 94 games.

The prolific hitman has been in brilliant form this campaign scoring 13 goals in as many matches in the Eredivisie.

Huntelaar has already made it known that he will be leaving Amsterdam at the end of the current season in order to move abroad, and it now seems that his destination will be Turin.

“Yes, we are negotiating a deal for Huntelaar of Ajax,” Cobolli Gigli told the Corriere dello Sport today.

Juventus have long been admirers of Huntelaar, and were linked with a move for him before the outbreak of the Calciopoli crisis in 2006.

They were also set to make a firm bid for him this summer when David Trezeguet threatened to leave the club. However the Frenchman signed a new contract and the idea was scrapped.

Given Huntelaar’s similarity to Trezeguet, it seems likely that Juventus consider the Dutchman as a long-term replacement for the current Serie A top-scorer.

Huntelaar, who has had limited chances in the Dutch national team under Marco Van Basten, will not move to Turin until the summer if negotiations are successful.

We were actually and were continually being linked with him till we signed Tevez. He's a fantastic player and it's about time he left Ajax for a "bigger" club. He's earned it.
I LOVE SCOTCH!

He isn't really needed right now. Maybe after next season, but then someone might snap him up. You guys need to invest on creative midfielders and need a lot more pacey, youthful midfielders, because whenever i've seen juve this season they lack pace apart from Iaquinta and Camo who uses his awesome creative skills.

Huntelaar: Davids Recommended Juve To Me

Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntlaar has been told by Edgar Davids that Juventus is a club that any professional should love to play for...

Klaas Jan Huntelaar has been linked with switches to Italy of late, and the Ajax striker has revealed that Edgar Davids' glowing recommendation of Juventus has left him intrigued.

The Dutch international told the Corriere dello Sport, "Even in Holland, [Juve] are known as the 'Old Lady', and thanks to all the trophies that they've own, they are a very attractive club. Edgar Davids has told me about this.

"What did he say? Very positive things about both Juventus and Italian football in general. It's a fun and exciting style there."

Davids cut his footballing teeth in the famous Ajax side of the mid-1990s before moving first to AC Milan and then Juve, and while Huntelaar seems interested in the prospect of following in the midfielder's footsteps, he's not yet had the chance.

When asked about potential interest from not just Juve and Fiorentina but also Inter and AC Milan, the 24-year-old replied, "I like Italy, and it's flattering to be rated by such clubs, but I've not yet had any contact.

"I've heard nothing from Juve, but they're a club with great tradition that anyone would love to play for.

"Am I the new [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic? No. Ibra is Ibra, and I am myself. Every player is different and comparisons aren't easy."

yes juve is a slow team but fast football is not the style of football played. we have iaquinta and trez with speed and thats all we need no more. Yes juve needs creative mid fielders but are not required to have pace. But i still agree this would be a GREAT signing. along with vdv it would be awesome. Nedved is going to be going soon and del piero is getting old. Going to have to find replacements.
