P.s Yankees Rule

I was wondering if this thread was going to pop up eventually. Good to see there are people interested in baseball, because I enjoy it as much as I enjoy footie.

Go Mariners, Go Hawks (the team from my part of Japan) clapping.gif clapping.gif
Ricardo Ronaldo
I'm glad people like baseball to.

Cubs lose Prior for rest of season

His career has taken an unbelievable amount of beating in the last few years. Here's a guy who could have been the best pitchers in the Majors, but injuries have taken their toll on him. Hopefully he can recover, because he can be a lights-out pitcher on his day.
Ricardo Ronaldo
That is a big blow for the cubs.

It's a damn shame, but not a surprise considering he's a china doll like Kerry Wood, good thing the Cubs weren't counting on him this year. About time he is getting the surgery though, it just should have happened a year or two ago, but the Cubs management screwed with him by telling him to rehab instead. Hopefully he can rebound after the surgery like Carpenter did and become the beast of a pitcher he has been when healthy, but he won't be the same, always will be an injury risk.

A better question is who's a bigger china doll, Pavano, Wood or Prior? It's a tossup.
Footfield119
Yeahaha, go Pirates. I'll drop by here on occasion and chat about my Pittsburgh Pirates lose again this season. smile.gif
SuperGalactico
A St. Louis Cardinals fan here. Seems that my team is down for the count with Chris Carpenter out for the time being. At least we won the WS last season.
Footfield119
^Yeah, tough luck, man.
K
The Rocket is back... again! However, this time he's going back to the Yankees, signing a $20+ million contract for the rest of this season.

Ol' George must have a lot of faith in Clemens if he's paying that much money for such a short time. Then again, anyone can save the Yankees' pitching staff, he can.
Ricardo Ronaldo
Glad to see him back at the club
K
Who would've thought at this point in the season, the Mariners would have a better record than the Yankees? sofunny.gif Honestly, I thought we were in for another last-place finish, but our team looks much-improved from the last two years.

Then again, I didn't think that Kei Igawa would flame out so early with the Yankees either, though I never envisioned him becoming a success in New York. I remember a few fans of his former team in Japan (the Hanshin Tigers) telling me that they were actually glad to see the back of him. At this point, the Yanks fans might be feeling the same, as well.
Decolicious
What no Angels fans, go halos! Can't wait for the allstars game they are usually a blast but i didnt catch last years.
Coast2Coast
Houston Astros fan here. Yep, not too fun this year.
Have you all been catching how many head coaches have been getting the boot recently, it's been entertaining to say the least. happy.gif
Decolicious
Anyone catch the MLB Draft, if so what did you think? For us i thought Tanner Robles was a great one for us...i was happy with our picks.
luizo
Braves fan right here, Im glad there's a thread for baseball in SP. SO where are you guys from, Im from Mexicobut I live in the U.S. I would like to know How you guys in Europe view other sports like baseball. In Mexico soccer rules in most of the country, but in some places baseball is more popular than soccer, but only a few. Man I hope we get healthy with Smoltzy and Hudson on the mound, we can go far this year.
K
What an outing by Justin Verlander. He no-hit the Brewers and basically embarrassed their lineup on national television in the process. And the guy was throwing 100+ mph in the ninth inning! Incredible stuff.

Braves and Manchester United? Now if only you supported US we'd be a carbon copy of each other. tongue.gif

And yea, brilliant stuff from Verlander tonight.
luizo

I think he'll do well for the Yankees but it may be too late. Personally, I wouldn't have paid him as much as he wanted for not even an entire season of work.

Right now they're just 8 games thanks to the red sox losing and rodriguez'z bat omg that guy is incredible , so they still got a chance, they can still make some more deals. Clements is worth every penny, if it means getting to the playoffs

Hudson and Santana go at it tonight, what a match up
T.I.
What an outing by Hudson tonight, shame Wickman and a couple errors ruined it in the 9th.

Woo this is kinda wierd. I'm a Braves fan too. I just hope they don't let the Mets get away this year. The playoffs just weren't the same without Atlanta losing in the first round. But I think we can make up some ground if everyone stays off the DL(Chipper).
T.I.
Going to the Braves/Red Sox game on Monday biggrin.gif
Valencianista
Wow, that was surprising, Mets finally winning and breaking Yankees great win streak. Shut out too was surprising for me with A-Rod, Jeter, Abreu etc I'd have expected a bit more from them but Mets fully deserved this one.

José Reyes is the man. The way he steals bases amazes me.
T.I.
Amazing game tonight in Atlanta. The crowd was a sellout so the atmosphere was good even though there were way too many Red Sox fans. Monday night sellouts are hard to come by in Atlanta so its hard to complain. Writing from a phone now, more when I get home.
Coast2Coast
Anyone share the desire to see Barry Bonds get drilled by a mid 90s fastball each time he comes to the plate? whistling.gif

I know, as long as he and our starting pitchers remian off the DL, we'l be good. Have you seen their #1 pick from the draft?

Im with you mate, He is one of the most selfish players to ever play the game in my point of view

I wanted to go to that game since Boston is my away team, i bet it was tight. You live in the ATL?

Go yankees! We're coming for you RED SOX!!!!!

I saw him play when he was a sophomore in HS, you could tell then he was going to be good, although maybe not a first round pick yet.

And I live in Statesboro, which is abou 2.5-3 hrs southeast of Atlanta.

And for the record, nothing would make me happier than to see Barry Bonds' bad knee get absolutely drilled by a 100mph fastball and his career to be over.

Agreed, i don't want him beating Hank Arron the dude was a legend well not like J robs but you know what i mean.

Also i'm in England and i hate late baseball games,
Angels fan they played last night 10.05pm pacific with is 3.05am here, that isn't good for my health nor is us losing to Houston lol.

lol absolutely. Even then, the ball might bounce so hard off his gigantic head that it would probably roll into the outfield for a single.
K
Mark Hargrove just resigned blink.gif He "lost his passion," apparently. Odd timing, considering that my M's were on a hot streak and about to challenge the Angels out West.
kid_a
The All-Star teams have been set folks. Two Padres made it on this year, two! even though we're the best team in the NL. Anyways, I'm hoping to make it three so if people can to go mlb.com and vote for Chris Young that would be just super.

We're probably not gonna beat Fatty Zambrano but its worth a try.
bob
Chris Young should be happy that no one will steal bases off of him. How about Russell Martin being voted as an All-Star?

I was actually real happy that Martin got the call, its mostly because I'm tired of seeing four or five Mets players on the roster every single year. I'm sorry I cant comment on Chris Young's stolen base problem i'm still busy thinking about how we've taken 5 out of the last 6 from you guys.
K
Ichiro, M's on verge of 5-year extension

Hell yes, I'm hoping these reports are true! banana.gif

edit: He won the All-Star MVP on the strength of his three hits, including the first inside-the-park home run in the game's history. Get in, hahaha banana.gif banana.gif

Bonds vents to reporters after loss

QUOTE
Giants manager Bruce Bochy suggested his star player might be too "pull conscious."

When asked about that, Bonds said, "That's not it."

"It's an embarrassment for me to be wearing this (expletive deleted) uniform 'cause of the way I'm playing. There, that's it. Now go away," Bonds said at his locker.

Then he flipped a rolling laundry cart to the ground as he walked through the clubhouse, the most visible frustration he's shown in months.

Going into one of those mood swings, isn't he? laugh.gif
K
Jeez, is Barry Roids ever going to tie (let alone break) the record? He's making Bud Selig look like a sympathetic figure, ffs.
Zayne
A-Rod got to 500 HRs today, youngest ever to do so.
luizo
Bonds will soon break history, with an asterik or not.
Arod in a few years will reach 800 cheers1.gif wow,of course if he does keep this pace up
K
Some things never change: A-Rod goes 0-for-4, with 3 K's

But at least he's got another baby on his way. Good for him. cheers1.gif

Edit: Speaking of things that never change... the Cubbies are eliminated from the playoffs once again.
K
Go home you Yanks, go home you Yanks, go home you Yanks, go home! Go home you Yanks, go home you Yanks, go home you Yanks, go home!

Still no championship rings in the new millennium! rofl.gif
Carl_Monday
Boston blows. i don't understadn how anyone can be a fan of them. As soon as I see that ugly B i get nauseated.
SuperGalactico
So happy that the Yankees are out of the playoffs. Its a beautiful thing. Hopefully Boston gets eliminated too soon.
K
Screw Boston, too. How many 'B' caps did we see before 2003? Certainly none around the state of Florida. Fast-forward to present day, and I can't walk a hundred yards without spotting one. Disgusting stuff.

I hope the Rockies make it to the World Series, if only because it would mean Kaz Matsui's remarkable comeback story will have another chapter on it.
Karing Korean
Joe Torre turns down a 1 year offer from the Yankees so who's the next manager?
K
Kenny Lofton trying to wind up Josh Beckett during and after his at-bat -- veteran move there. thumbsup.gif

Not surprised at all about Torre, really. After all, every season after 2000 has been a "failure" for the Skankees. The word is that Don Mattingly could take over as their new manager, but they'll probably take a lot of time to evaluate their options. Some of their players might follow Torre out of the organization, as well.
Coast2Coast
Anyone else watching game seven, Cleveland at Boston? I've been pulling for Cleveland, but Boston just won't go away. Travis Hafner finally got a hit, he needs to start pulling his weight for the Indians to win this game.
Karing Korean
i'm watching right now sizemore just got a rbi out 3-2 Soxs. Go soxs you can do it!!
