i wouldn't get the adidas techfit.
for some reason when i bought mine at correct size aswell my shoulders wouldn't fit on my shoulder and the place where my shoulders were supposed to be were pratically on my neck. This was a long sleeve version and also it wasn't very tight around my wrists, it could almost do with an extra clip to wrap around the sleeves in order to make it tight.

they're all basically the same thing and can either keep you warm or help draw sweet away from the body dependng on which one they are. it should say if its one for cool weather or warm weather

I have both the cold and heat gear from underarmor and I find the heat gear to be quite redundant in warm weather.
They do help prevent chafing and keep your muscles warm and tight in the hot summer but I did not find that it wicks moisture any better than just wearing the jersey alone nor do they keep you cooler. They do minimize the problem with the inside stitching of the jersey bothering you.
The cold gear baselayers serve their purpose of keeping you warm so that is of better value for money.
I've heard good things about Skins here in Australia and how unique their products are but I'd imagine that most of the brands are not so different. The tricky issue has to do with the fit of the various brands and sizing issues so I'd recommend that baselayers be bought in a physical store.

Canterbury all the way
Adidas, Puma and Skins are all VERY prone to ripping. And because the Canterbury ones were basically designed for Rugby, there's only ever been like 1 recorded rip in one of their shirts in competitive play. Or something like that
If you're playing in any temperatures above 12 degrees (celcius), then get the hot gear. Anything below, go for cold. The compression stuff is more for light training and recovery. Example; Long day training etc, wear a compression tee and shorts/leggins to bed and they will help remove the lactic acid from your muscle, thus helping you to feel a lot better in the morning
I've heard a lot of people saying that the ION X stuff is just a pile of crap and not real or anything, but I've personally noticed a difference (however small). If you've got the extra £20 or whatever, get the ION X stuff. I won't go into specifics cos it'll get a bit boring, but the basic premise if they've ionised the fabric, so you get more of a fresher feeling wearing it over a period of time, and also they worked out that top athletes had an increased power output of +2%. So even though you might not reap the full benefits from it, it'll still be well worth the money. Believe me. I've got quite a few of the normal ones and ION X ones, and I haven't had any problems with them.
Also, get a size bigger than you normally would. I read one of the replies here saying that the normal size was TOO tight on them. From what I've seen (I work in a sports shop basically), it's always best to get a size up from your normal size, because it will still be tight, so you'll be able to get the benefits from it, but it won't be uber tight so you can't even move. If you go for Canterbury, then the compression and the ION X stuff is only slightly tighter than the normal stuff (the compression is the tightest, because it needs to be very close in order to push the blood around the body quicker etc).
I hope that any of that waffle actually helped. Although I said that the Adidas seems to rip a bit, they do have the Powerweb range, which I've found to be quite cool. The webbing on the clothes makes them tighter in certain areas, so example: You're a runner, and if you have the shorts/tights on, the webbing almost pushes your legs back down as you're running, so it's causing you to put more force into your strides, thus making you run faster (well, that's the idea).
I'll stop now otherwise I'll just keep going and going!!

I'm not sure about the nike pro ones but most say something like cool gear or warm gear. Most common are the ones for colder conditions though, so unless the box it came in says anything different i'd highly expect that its one for cold whether

Hi daroodedoo,
based on your recommendation to go one size up on the baselayer, should I take an XL size on the Canterbury Compression IonX if I wear an L size for adidas jerseys. I am actually in between L and XL, being 44.5" in chest circumference.
What would you recommend for Canterbury Compression IonX? The online size charts states L for 43", XL for 46". I am assuming the general size charts refer to regular fit apparels instead of compression.

Yeh definately go for XL. It's slightly tighter than the normal baselayers so it'll be fine. The size charts I've read on the boxes don't seem to be true to the fit, because at work I've measured them before and the size charts were wrong. That's why people seem to think that if they get their usual size, it'll be fine

I already had a Nike Dry Fit compression shirt before, but I picked up a Nike Pro sleeveless shirt yesterday at a nike outler for 20 bucks, and some sample Adidas Techfit shorts (the linear ones, not the dynamic) in a size medium for 15 bucks at the adidas outlet. It was really hard to get on at first when i brought it home but then it fit and I walked around with it, and I wear a medium in compression shirts so I didnt think a medium in shorts would be really tight, but this one is really, really tight. plus the laces at the front are pointless IMO and are really uncomfortable. Next time Im getting shorts Ill get them in a L and in dynamic webbing, but the M was the only size and for 15 bucks I couldnt pass it up.
And where can I get a sleeveless blue adidas Techfit shirt in a M without ordering it from England? And are the ones on ebay fake? They look dodgy to me...

Has anyone got a 'Nike Pro Vent Loose Sleeveless Crew' baselayer? If so do you recommend it?
I used to have one. They were sized rather on the normal/ larger side so there is no need to size up. Nice and light material. I got mine (slightly stained) at an outlet for USD10 so I wouldn't really complain. Actually, the loose fit is a misnomer because these do stretch much like all lycra materials.
However, if I had to pay more than $18 for it, I probably wouldn't get it. Reason: they don't seem that compatible under a jersey being slightly loose, mainly because I like mine a little snug and also the overall length is just wrong (too short). They seem to ride up alot. should the choice be to go sleeveless, I'd very much rather wear a sleeveless adidas training top without any baselayer.
Now, has anyone tried canterbury's compression shorts and would you recommend that over others? Previously, I was just using the T3K brand of compression baseball slider shorts mainly because they were rather cheap - under $10. However, I was wondering if paying for a premium material like ionx shorts would be better.

Are Nike Pro's the most comfortable sliding shorts for the price? I haven't worn sliding shorts for a while because I really don't like the fit that much(like to let the nads breath in my boxers haha) but now that I'm getting through preseason and about to start playing games again it looks like I'm gonna have to go back to wearing them.

Sliding shorts seem to be very popular these days. I haven't tried the nike ones but there is a seller on ebay that offers great value compression baselayer. They are priced at around USD5.99 for compression shorts and USD9.99 for short and long sleeve tops.
Those are comfortable, great value baselayers plus they have antimicrobial properties so there is little to no odor. I bought several shorts (both padded and unpadded) and apart from the tag at the back (which can be easily removed), I have had no complaints. They feel a bit stiffer than the underarmour that I have but not noticeably so. I could get 4-5 shorts for the price of one underarmour or Nike pro.

http://www.nike.com/index.jhtml?l=nikestor...co=US&la=ENI'm looking for a base layer shirt that isn't too awfully tight and won't ride up as I run. All of my Under Armour shirts do that and it gets on my nerves every time I wear them, so I stopped wearing them. Do Nike Pro "Fitted" shirts not do that? I have a "rugby like" physique due to weight training and this upsize rule usually works great for me except on long sleeve tops. I bought a canterbury top online in XL recently, it fits everywhere perfectly except the sleeves which run a good 1.5 inches beyond my wrist. The sleeve lengths on an L size would probably fit but then I might rip the body of the shirt when I spread my lats. I am 6' 1" and my arms are not that short.

20-40 degree Celsius is cold weather? Is this a joke? Then what should be hot weather?60 degree?I have the same model but short sleeve. And to be honest it depends-in hot weather I feel better than in normal t-shirts,in cold weather if I don't train I won't be very warm but with a long-sleeve normal top over it it's like in an oven

In 40 degree it will be hot even if you are naked so I guess you won't feel worse than in sleeve-less

Look up the "Nike Pro Winter Long-Sleeve Men's Shirt" on nike.com. This is tight fitting so you'll have to try it on to see what size you need for length. I played in Syracuse and Rochester,NY, and this worked great for me. The pro base layers are meant more for warmer weather as they are thin and pretty much just move moisture away from your skin. Hope this helps.

so xinzhitan14 my top five would be
1. skins (absolutely the best work well in both hot and cold weather)(prices are high)
2. Adidas powerweb (work well only thing is that you dont actually fell the webbing stuff when you play only when you stretch and prices are quite high aswell)
3,under armour(brilliant definately the best value for money but make sure you get the right one as in hot or cold gear)
4,adidas techfit(good for the prices all i can say really)
5,canterbury or nike pro(i find them basically the same which ever one you can get cheaper i say)

Its the turtle neck long sleeved one. I had a close look at one and looks really good but did look very thick, wouldnt be so great for playing footy unless it was really cold.
