BACKGROUND

QUOTE
....So much so that the Theoklitos brothers are in business and, in partnership with former South Melbourne player and coach Mike Petersen, are on the verge of releasing the revolutionary Concave football boot onto the world market, hoping to snare a share of sales that will make them rich and change the way boots are designed.

The idea of the Concave boot, which has Celtic and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish as the face of the product, is that the concave shape allows for a bigger sweet spot to hit the ball, meaning better power, distance and accuracy.

The Concave boot, worn by Theoklitos as official tester and guinea pig for the past two years, has been eight years in the making.

Theoklitos hopes the official launch next year will have a massive impact.

"I swear by them," Theoklitos said. "They look different, but they work. It's really exciting. We're all pumped up. It's massive and hopefully it pays off."

If the Theoklitos approach to life and football is any guide, the payoff from the Concave boot is just around the corner.

QUOTE

For decades, football players around the World have been looking for ways to increase power and precision in their game. The Concave football boot is revolutionary in its design, as it naturally complements the convex shape of a football, creating a 'cup' for any football, round or rugby shape.

Concave football boots allow players to execute kicks with more accuracy, control and power on a far more consistent basis than with a standard football boot. The reason - a four times larger sweet spot than regular football boots.

The standard football boot's 'sweet spot' (the point of optimum power and accuracy) is along the natural ridgeline of the instep of the foot. The sweet spot on a conventional football boot is approximately one centimetre wide and ten centimetres long.

The revolutionary design of the Concave boot improves performance by increasing the surface area of the sweet spot by up-to four times. The unique shaped concave upper of the boot, which 'cups' the ball, achieves this.

Just as tennis racquets and golf clubs with larger surface areas influenced their sports, Concave boots will also have a lasting impact on the way football is played.

All these benefits are achieved without extra effort, skill or the requirement to change your kicking technique. Concave boots simply harness your existing power and release it more efficiently.

Independent scientific testing concluded use of the Concave resulted in 30% improved accuracy.

Independent player tests also showed an increase in power of 15%. Professional player testing using radar gun testing has shown over an 18 metre distance the ball traveled up to 15kph faster. This means greater distance and accuracy in passing and shooting and less time for goalkeepers to react to shots.

Independent testing has proven that the design of the Concave boot significantly increases the performance of the traditional football boot in the critical areas of velocity, power and control.

Both machine testing and human testing were conducted by Australia's largest technology consulting firm, Invetech Pty Ltd. and Monash University.

Concave test pilot, Michael Petersen shares his thoughts and findings on the Concave blog. Click here to visit the 'Conversations' section.

In addition to the improved performance, Concave provides two very important safety features. The Shank Balance Stabiliser (SBS) and the MetaGuard.

Shank Balance Stabiliser (SBS) provides support and reinforcement to the mid-foot area to help control balance between the front and rear of the foot. The SBS protects from over an extension of the flexibility of the middle of the boot. This is especially important for players making sudden fast breaks and sprints on uneven ground surfaces.

The modern lightweight design of many football boots is attributed to the increase of metatarsal bone fractures among players. Of all the codes, football is the most prevalent of leg tackles, trapping and dribbling, hence the need for a protective top guard.

The MetaGuard provides some protection from injuries to the metatarsal bones. Concave's unique upper design comprises of a flexible layer of TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) and reinforced cushioning foam composite. This offers increased protection against the occurrence of metatarsal injuries by adding a substantial protective layer from the opponent's football studs.

From a distance they don't look bad at all, will be interesting as to which pros they can sign.
juniorsheva17
Yeah i want to talk to a normal player who has worn them before i buy.
Texas Red Devil
They look like quality boots if you ask me and I'm growing tired of the major brands. It looks as if they've put alot of effort into the design & technology.

Amazing this is up. Im from melbourne and the guy who has a part in making these is the melbourne victory goalkeeper. hes been wearing them for the last two seasons. They talked about it, the commentators, during a match once. I think they even had a half time talk about these boots. I only looked further into them because i didnt know what he was wearing. I hadnt seen tehm before. They looked a lot like t90 IIs from distance. Im not sure how theyd do for touch though. I hope they take off. Maybe i can be a guinea pig too.

i wouldnt be a guinea pig. they live for about 6-7 years and they die easily from fright
actually, testing for concave would be sweet gears

Those look very interesting, but in a good way thumbsup.gif . I don't really know about the lace cover though, like realnomis said, the lace cover also looks like it may be padded. Not really thick padding, though.

Wow, Im impressed. Hope they take off

NEW CONCAVE FOOTBALL BOOTS

In any walk of life, we are always looking for the next best thing. The next iPod, computer game, self cleaning car, self cleaning child come to that or non calorific chocolate bar.

In the world of football boots, scientific advancements and stunning examples of innovation might not yet be commonplace, but are touted on a relatively regular basis.

So what can we expect next?

Well, if you’ve been scanning the football boot message boards or just keeping your ear close to the ground, the word Concave might be familiar to you.

Why? Because the newly conceived Concave football boot is promising to deliver big time.

Eight years in the making, machine and human tested by experts in Australia and with Celtic and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish as the face of the project, the manufacturers have high hopes for their product which will be launched on to the UK market in the very near future.

Rumours abound as to its alleged performance, make up and look. Apart from a few high placed individuals who know the ins and outs, the exact details of the Concave football boot are being kept a closely guarded secret (or as closely guarded as is possible in this business) before being officially released.

But Footy Boots has gained unique access to the people behind the Concave football boot and we’ll be bringing you exclusive material and images in the days to come.

If you’re a football boot aficionado, general football fan or player, you will get the chance to make your own mind up as to the impact the Concave football boot will have, by visiting Footy Boots over the next couple of weeks.

EDIT: I see I've been beaten to it. No worries mate thumbsup.gif

Ick, they look pretty bad IMO. Hopefully they perform much better than they look.
venustianor
I dont know why but i kind of like them, there different in a good way, the lace cover looks weird, but they make it work, I would really like to see some different colors
ezekiel2517lim
Those look sick!!!!! eyepopping.gif
xinzhitan14
is that a huge chunk of plastic as the lace cover?, it looks really really thick. they look okay, i have a feeling a lot of australian players will get sponsored soon haha.
striker22
An interesting competitor to Nomis boots. I wonder if Packard leather supplies the materials.
setf
I want those soo much, but i believe it will take like 10 yrs 4 those to arrive to finland.
Jeremyd
they look ok, but i cant make my mind up why that sweet spot is so specail that chunky bit looks like it may get in the way and IMO the T90 Laser beats this boot with its strike zone, on looks anyway we will have to wait and see about performance. does anyone have any idea of what it will cost, i am hazarding a guess of £100+
SmoothTT07
Well right now the only player they have is a goalie, who last time I checked relies on his hands more than his feet.
Texas Red Devil
I've seen some more colourways and they look class thumbsup.gif I'm going to see if FB can send me a pair to review!!
Realnomis7
Can you post the other colorways?? I think they look pretty good but that lace cover looks so chunky

So what do you guys think of Kenny Dalgish as the face of the product? I like the logo; the concave surface with the ball is a nice representation of the concept of the company.

These boots have a Premier Leaugue player's name on them...
LFCMVFC
Calrton Cole? Cheryl Cole? Id buy them if they had cheryl cole as the face. laugh.gif The first pic of them posted they look very similar to nomis flares. They look cool though. TRD. Have you found out how to be a guinea pig? Have you got a free pair yet? Im gonna look around too.
Markey.
ME LIKEY!! not so sure about the lace cover though. Carlton Cole's boots next year, i'm assuming

whats there website?

Just while we are on australian companies. It seems weve had quite an influence on the football boot. Craig Johnstone ex LFC created the adidas predator. Kangaroo Leather. laugh.gif Nomis. Concave. Good to see.

Plus most boots today have the "blade" stops now.

This type of stop design was originally invented for Australian Rules Football. However the guy that invented did not Copyright them for Football (soccer) played with the round ball and for markets outside of Australia. The Soccer boot manufacturers realised this and just started using it for free. I think it is now the most common sole pattern on football boots today. Imagine the royalty fee that guy is missing out on!!
Ayresome
They actually look as if they could improve power because of the greater contact with the ball. The C. Cole personalisation looks very nice too.
MHuang
I'm betting that lacecover is sort of spongy, and I could explain why in physics if you'd fellas like it haha.
They don't look as bad as I had anticipated, and the personalization also looks pretty nice
Soju
These gimmicks are starting to bother me a little because they get inside people's heads (as is their intention). If you hit a cricket ball with a bat, then hit a cricket ball with a bat that has a foam chunk on its sweet spot, would there be more power? Would the ball travel further? In terms of physics this makes no sense and I'm not sold on it. As long as the sweet spot has a smooth flat surface so the ball doesn't skid off it, all the power you're going to get is surely coming from your leg/angle/technique and not something hanging on to the boot.
Ayresome
The greater the contact with the ball, the greater the control over the movement of the ball. With more control comes more power. I honestly belive that this boot might actually help players.

Looks like he got it from footbo.com.

Is it me or is the White/Gold colourway sythetic whereas the other one we have seen is leather?
Texas Red Devil
Yeah I just searched Concave on that site and here's what I've found:

Concave Sports
Hello all - i am the COO of a company called Concave Sports. We are introducing a new category of footwear to the spport this fall under the concave brand. The first line of boots will be on the shelves at JJB exclusively in the UK this august.

Concave with its technology from the top to the bottom of the boots will create its own sport shoe category – “Performance Footwear”. The technology on the upper instep of the boots gives players the same type of increased “sweet spot” as the Prince oversized head tennis racquet gave to tennis players and the Calloway Big Bertha driver gave to golfers. Increased accuracy, greater velocity resulting in more powerful, more confident play leading to better results on the pitch – that is what Concave is bringing to the footballing world.

Here is a picture of a premiership players custom made boots for next season

We are interested in anoyone or any company that shares our passion for the game, and look forward to your feedback should you purchase the shoes this fall.

Great find smile.gif
SmoothTT07
I wonder what the instep looks like.
Texas Red Devil
Footy-Boots will have more pics and info being released soon so I'm sure one of the pics will feature the instep.
LFCMVFC
Well it looks to me as if the edge of the "concave" bit is right on where i like to hit it when im going for a curling dipping sorta shot. Looks as if you could pass with the instep ok, you can blast it ok, but it doesnt really look like you can whip a ball that good. Its as if the sharp edge of the concave technology is right on the upper part of the "big bone" which is where i like to kick sometimes. This could be an issue. Anyone else feel the same?
Texas Red Devil
Yeah I see what you're getting at. I'll see what more info I can get tomorrow btw.
stfan
The other claim about the Concave boot is that it is meant to help minimise metatarsal injuries.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/football/six-pl...0131324799.html

Booting foot injury

A new Australian-designed boot will hit international stores later this year that may save players like Tim Cahill and Wayne Rooney from injury. "Concave", developed by former Socceroo and all-round legend Micky Petersen, has already impressed medical experts with its potential to stop metatarsal injuries, and will be spruiked by former Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish.

Note that Mickey is not the inventor though.
