oli
Jan 17 2005, 12:33 PM
they cost me 4 quid from jjb - i bought them as training pads cos they were small , cheap n sklip ins ((and i wanted 2 test out slip in pads)) - they are quality - dont slip much and comfy and most importantly protect your shins well
i would also recomend
ADIDAS F50+ shinpads ((if ur looking for looks then they are nice 2))
but they are good protection , good feel and fit dont slip and r comfy
and by the way - try and get your hands on a pair of NIKE COMPRESSION leg warmer things ((pic below)) u can pick em up for about 3 or 4 quid at Sport soccer in London - they are great for holding the pads in place and keep blood flowing/keep legs warm/feel good

((pic for compression sleeves ((not the pads but the blue sleeve

I have these cheap adidas shins that are sliver and black (no clue what the name is, got em cheap) and I got em too big, much too big. Ill end up kicking the ball with my shin guards rather then my boot. So i measured my shin and its about 13 inches long from the ankle to then knee...what size would you recommend getting? (the XL is much too big for me)
p.s. I got a serious injury today wich fracutred my leg (championship game)...what hapened was i pressured the other player and stepped in fornt of him and got the ball when i was going to pass and he kicked me as hard as he could in the back of my left leg, which left my nerves twitching the whole rest of the game and my bone feeling split ( I still cant walk 5 hours later). I got a 2nd yellow card shown to me while I was on the ground screaming in pain...lol funny part is that i got 2 yellows but they subbed someone else in (1st yellow was for telling someone to shut the f*ck up)

and to contribute to this thread...Which shins are better? The Nike Team Guard IIs or the Nike Mercurial Lite?
Neither. J Guards all the way. I have the Lites too, white/gold to go with my boots, but they feel so thick and ventilation is not as good.

Do you want shin guards that have straps so you don't have to use tape or do you want shin guards that you just slip in and use tape to hold up? I bought the Nike Team Guards and so far, they're holding up really well. But I can't really comment on the J Guards cause I haven't tried them yet but I'm sure lots of people like them.

Well, I mean shin guards realy should not be a tough decision but for some reason they are

Im looking at:
Nike Delta Lite Shinguards
Nike Vapor Lite
Nike J Guard
Nike Team 2
Nike Mercurial Lite
Nike TIempo Ronaldhino
adidas Pro Lite Shinguard
Under Amour MPZ
very long list..but after my shinguards, Im not making a big mistake like that again lol.
So which one is the litest with the most protection (i might order 3 or 4 since you can't buy any here)

I'm looking to buy a pair of slip-in guards, but I'm not sure if I should get ones with straps or a sleeve. Which is better? I'm mainly thinking Nike. Can anyone help? oh, and I'm also a left-back. So something a little more geared towards my position.

Do you like to slide tackle a lot? Cause if you do, go for a pair with ankle protectors.

Learn how to tackle properly then. An ankle protector won't prevent a serious ankle injury if you dig the ground on your tackle, only a miracle will.

Of course that's true, but having a shinguard so small is pointless. I only wear my ankle guards against certain times (ie. dirty teams who step on your heels and ankles). I don't think they provide that much prtection, but the guard itself is very important. No point in covering a couple inches of your leg when it's 12 inche long.

Yeah, they're actually REALLY nice. The sleeve's fairly tight, although it does slip a little. With a good sock, I don't think i'll even have to tape them. They have some really nice detailing on the inside and along the top too.
