According to many newspapers, news channels and sports reviews i have read two different teams are trying to gain the signiture of blackburn player dwight yorke, i have no idea if these negotians are close to ending or are mearly an offer that dwight has been offered, but i for one would love to see dwight playing in australia, it would be the perfect sort of class that the A-league needs in a player

I remember reading so much of Sydney FC wanting and going to sign him.
They left the 20th spot in their team for him, as Litbaski wanted the whole squad of 20 signed for a certain date but left the last one open for the Marquee player (Yorke)
Now I'm not sure if the position is still available within Sydney FC, but I would love to see him come (not sure if we really need him as we just slammed home 6 in our first match

), but he definetely would be great for any team in the league and also for Australian football in general as you mentioned Bond.
Yorke would bring experience, leadership, respect and a very disiplined player to any club in Australia.
Does anyone know the current situation with him and the A League?

ur a mod mate, well done, how long have u been one for????
yeah dwight could come to australia, he was one hell of a striker back in 99, but i think a striker always remembers his touch and i think he could be highly effective in the a-league, i just hope he comes here

Cheers man, I got appointed a few days ago for this forum and the Chelsea forum.
Definetly, Yorke woudl not have lost his touch, and could still dominate in the A League. I still havn't found out yet though whether Sydney have signed their 20th player or not. There is no current news of Yorke on their home site.

Look....
Signing Yorke would be a big risk.. He is asking for big bucks including a penthouse and some sports car... He will rather dominate and be awesome or take it easy and be a total waste of money and a total waste of time...
It's not worth the risk IMO

Forget Yorke, Sydney should save their money.
I have 2 words for them:
Ahmad ElrichBeen on about him for ages and Saturday night he proved me right once again. Sydney should sign Elrich, he would be the best thing for the club IMO - plus, the age of most of the squad is fairly old, we need someone in their mid-20s.
Not only that, but he'd be cheaper, less demanding and likely to hand around longer - and lets face it, he hates the club he's at and can't wait to move. Come on Sydney, bring the boy back home where he belongs!!!
Btw

but, I met some of Syd Fc Sat night and they're really cool guys

Am determined to get season pass membership and rock up to all their games (Elrich or no Elrich lol ... but maybe I'll be able to persuade someone there to sign him up!)

He plays for birmingham now mate. I think that you guys must realize how you are gonna get this league going, you will need to invest in some hasbeens, its the way to go. You need these icons so that they can produce more interest in the league, aswell as making it more competent. The J-league is what you need to be aiming for, like you in their infancy they had money to spend, but obviously they are not going to lure any players that can play for the long term. By getting these superstars looking at retirement they can get more interest from the public and from other countries aswell, they are almost ambassadors of the league...

i think it would be great to see Dwight playing in Australia, i don't believe it would be a risk as Jasoniano Ronaldo said, as i don't think he would just relax, i think he would play well and inprove the A-League and it creates every chance for other famous players to come and play. Look at what happended when Pele went to Cosmos - Alberto Carlos followed so did Beckenbaur (sorry if thats spelt wrong), although i certainly hope the A_league is much more successful than the old NASL

First off, Welcome to SP Jessica, where are you from? Good to see you on the forum.
Jaime that is true, and the board of directors seriously need to consider everything you mentioned. Yes we are already trying to imitate the A-league, tonight I will get my first taste of how good the quality of soccer is going to be, as I am leaving to watch Sydney FC live in about 20 mintues.
Ill be back with a match report soon.

It's only bad for Sydney FC if they sign Yorke and fails, it is bad for the A-League on the whole...
We can't let these big names come over here after getting paid big bucks and then they jsut fail and don't really play to there best or atleast don't try to there best , don't work hard, etc...
It's a big risk to the A-League, not just Sydney FC.

I just saw a very recent interview with Yorke in Sydney talking about signing for Sydney. It's close. Still may not happen though. If he does come here and not other places, it will be good for Australian Football not just for the notice it will get with him playing, but it will mean that he signed here for the football, not jsut for the money. Because the money he will be getting elsewhere will be better than Australia. He outlined in the interview that he still has alot to give on the pitch, he still feels he can perform just like he used to.

If Roque is correct then he has signed for Sydney FC I'm pretty sure. There was no speculation of him going to any other club.
I've checked socceraustralia.com and theworldgame.com and they both don't have any news of him signing yet. I'm pretty sure they would. Maybe the papers got in early or something.
If he did then I am very happy, Yorke has stated that he still has alot to offer and I have no doubt in him. If he trains hard and puts the effort in there is a huge possibility he could be the best striker in the league.

Sydney FC signs Yorke
SBS
Dwight Yorke in his glorious Manchester United days
Sydney FC chairman has revealed his club has secured the most significant signing of the A-League by completing the capture of Birmingham striker Dwight Yorke.
Club chairman Walter Bugno told tribalfootball.com from the team's tour base in Dubai that their marquee target had signed a two-year-deal.
"We're very happy to confirm that Dwight Yorke has signed a two-year contract with Sydney FC, beginning from the 1st of July," he said, delighted at the signing of the Trinidad & Tobago international.
"We're delighted to sign Dwight after several months of negotiations."
"His trip to Sydney last week was very telling."
"The Sydney FC fans played a massive part in convincing Dwight to join us. The response he received from the Sydney public over the two days he was there made a big, big difference."
"We were competing with a rival club from the UAE for Dwight - and a late offer also came in from Qatar."
"But the thought of playing for Sydney FC after the reception he received really swung it for us - and we're delighted."
Yorke is 33-years-old and has played Premiership football for Aston Villa, Blackburn, Birmingham and Manchester United, where he won the treble of the Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League in 1999.
WOOOOOHOOOOOOO.

Sydney confirm Yorke capture
Australian outfit Sydney FC have announced the capture of Birmingham striker Dwight Yorke on a two-year deal.
The 33-year-old will join the A-League outfit when his contract at St Andrews expires at the end of June, provided he passes a routine medical.
Yorke has failed to make much impact at Birmingham following his switch from Blackburn last summer.
He had received a number of offers following his decision to leave Blues - including a lucrative switch to Qatar - but Sydney claim they have won the race for his signature.
"We're just absolutely over the moon that he's decided that this is where he wants to spend the next two years off his football career," Sydney chief executive Andy Harper told www.abc.net.au.
"He's been around, and he's certainly learnt from the best on how to win football matches.
"And more important than that for us is just the individual football package that he brings.
"He's a high-quality football player and we're very much looking forward to him being on Sydney FC's books."
Yorke will link up with former Wolves star Steve Corica at Sydney who are coached by German Pierre Littbarski.
Harper believes the capture of the Trinidad and Tobago international is a major coup for the game Down Under with the inaugural Hyundai A-League launching this season.
"When he (Yorke) arrived last week for his three-day visit to have a look at the Sydney FC set-up and meet the people, he just generated enormous media interest then," Harper continued.
"When he puts pen to paper for Sydney FC and starts work with us he will have an enormous impact off the field.
"Sydney FC is striving to be what the Hyundai A-League set itself out to achieve, and that is to be something new and fresh and catch the imagination andthe attention of the public.
"A player like Dwight Yorke is certainly, we feel, important in that strategy. I think if all goes well from here he will have an enormous impact on the Australian sporting landscape."

He's turned down four times more money from Qatar to play in Oz so he must be committed to playing well there.
Can't blame him really, I'd love to go to Sydney.
Anyway I don't now how competitive this league will be but Yorke hasn't done anything in the prem. for years. I'm sure he will be good in terms of attracting crowds, you've just got hope once the crowds are there he does something on the field.
