im not an expert with boots, but i generally find that boots that are light and give you a good feel of the ball are the most important qualities of a boot. the length and number of studs are important as well.

what other qualities do you think is important in football boots? please give examples of which boots have which quality!
MrBrightside
Well the upper material of the boot has importance because it is the strike zone and gives the foot a good feel when in contact with the ball. A contrasting example of this would be the Vapor's NikeSkin, the contact is not terrible but it offers minimal protection and hard challenges or poor footballs can be felt more then usual. Copa Mundials are also an excellent example, they are made from a strong leather (not sure what grain though?) so they optimise comfortability and ball contact.

Another quality required as you said are studs, not so much positioning and size but more of traxion. There are certain boots which you cannot wear on certain pitch conditions. Wearing Adidas World Cups on dry fields will cause alot of pain, but on wet surfaces with a certain degree on "give" in them they are appropriate.

Also as you said the weight of the boots has significance but lightweight boots are for certain types of players. Mercurial Vapors do not make players faster! They can help the change of pace ie directional changes. Heavier boots such a Predator Pulse's have other qualities ie good ball contact, protection and traxion.

What I suggest you do if you are thinking of buying new boots is post what type of player you are and what you want from a boot.

i have a a pair of mizuno objectivos, not sure if theyre good. i got them for $30USD, a bargain for its stylish looks.

its studs are pretty "fat", and dont really dig deep. but, they dont cause pain if the ground is hard, like u said about the world cup adidas. its surface material is thin and cheap but it gives a good first touch.

im the type of player who loves to dribble and pass, so the thin material is good for me. i rarely shoot, so the top surface doesnt really matter.
i prefer studs that allows me to run for stamina than for speed. i dunno if the studs have any effect tongue.gif

things i look in a football boot. pretty much what helps me decide which boot to buy

1. Comfort - i will not play in something that will be uncomfortable (sorry vapor owners).
2. Touch - the upper material has to have a nice touch on the ball, imo kleather is best for me but its different for everyone.
3. Durability - You want something that will last right?
4. Weight - Its not that much of an issue these days but i can still take off with my laser k's, so i dont necesserily need vapors to run fast tongue.gif.
5. Technology - sometimes the technology helps to the boot, i find the nice strike zones (like the predators elements and nike's S.P.P) help well with shots.
