OOOOOOH and tomorrow the trophy is going to be there banana.gif

I wonder if they'll let me touch it? whistling.gif
Kaboom
Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the jersey they are using now is not the one for the A-league. They are going to unveil it in August.

Anyways, go Sydney FC. Hopefully we can add to our trophy cabinet; 2 trophies already!
JLW
Am a big supporter of Sydney FC. I got that slip of paper in the mail the other day asking to become a member, I think I"m going to join. Does it cost?

I want to get a jersy aswell, can't wait till the unveil it if what you say Kaboom is true. I wouldn't mind buying that light blue on though as I think it's alright.

I like having snag Yorke there just for the fact that he's there and exciting... regardless if he does turn out to be crap.. we need a good atmosphere in that stadium thats 4 sure... Zdrillic and ummm wots the other guy thats also good Petrovski yeh, there good players and Yorke maybe will find it difficult to match them i rekon

Firstly, welcome to the forum AusFootball? Hope you stick around buddy smile.gif

Hmm benfica_maniac you have sort of made me have secnod thoughts about Dwight now. No doubt he is still going to have the technique, but whether the passion and speed and agreesivness is going to be there is still yet to be seen. I could see him going out the night before the game and getting smashed, easily. He might actually prove his worth though, you never know. In all his interviews and stuff he said he still wants to compete at the top and stuff so we will see.

I want to see our games get an attendence of like 40,000 or something, that would be awsome.

Zdrillic is going to shine I'm suspecting, he's quality.
Jasiano
Looks like Sydney FC are looking pretty good, well... look at your sp supporter base.
The Melbourne Victory should be also very good. I believe they will rival Sydney FC but won't quite be as good as them.
Bloody Sydney, always having the best of everything, Melbourne is always 2nd to Sydney.

GO VICTORY.

SYDNEY FC STRIKER DWIGHT YORKE ARRIVES ON WEDNESDAY

Sydney FC striker Dwight Yorke arrives in Sydney this Wednesday (June 29) to start his two year stint with the ambitious Hyundai A-League club.

Yorke, whose career has taken him to clubs like Manchester United, Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers, arrives in Sydney at 6.05am on Wednesday morning at Sydney International Airport on flight EK 412 from London via Dubai.

The 33-year-old will also attend a press conference later in the day at Aussie Stadium alongside Sydney FC coach and former World Cup winning player Pierre Littbarski.

Yorke, who has been representing Trinidad and Tobago in 2006 World Cup Qualifiers, will begin training early next week.

The former Manchester United striker is a massive addition to Sydney FC’s already potent attacking line of David Zdrilic, Saso Petrovski and Alex Salazar, who scored 17 goals between them in the eight match World Club Championship Qualifying Tournament.

Yorke’s first competitive match for Sydney FC is expected to be against the New Zealand Knights in a pre-season game at Aussie Stadium on Saturday July 23 at 8pm.

His Hyundai A-League debut will be against Melbourne Victory at Aussie Stadium on Sunday August 28.

Remember, Sydney FC Memberships are now for sale with Sydney FC offering even different packages to cater for everyone from the junior football players ($20) right through to the Foundation Memberships for the passionate football fans and corporate high-flyers at $2000.

But wait, there's more ... (as there always seems to be with Dwight Yorke)

Yorke - I'm Here To Play Not To Party
Sun 03 Jul, 11:09 AM

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke claims he is going to concentrate on his football and not on the nightlife during his time in Australia.

Yorke, released by Birmingham towards the end of the Barclays Premiership season, has signed for Sydney FC, one of eight clubs in the new Australia A-League, which kicks off next month.

"I am not here to enjoy the nightlife and the scenery," Yorke told Channel Seven's Sportsworld on Sunday.

"I don't feel I have anything left to prove," said the Trinidad and Tobago international. "I went though that phase of having to prove myself at Manchester United. Now I want to concentrate on putting the ball in the back of the net and bringing out the people to enjoy the number one sport in the world."

Littbarski: Yorke shows class
SBS

Sydney FC coach Pierre Littbarski says former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has already shown his class after just one training session with the team.

Yorke had his first training session with his new teammates on Monday, and Littbarski says once the player gets match fit he will be a key signing ahead of the forthcoming Hyundai A-League campaign.

"He is a great player. That you can see straight away with some of his touches and his shooting," Littbarski said. "He needs to work a little on his fitness, as all the players do at this stage of the pre season, but from what I saw he will be good for us."

Yorke meanwhile said he was just looking forward to playing for his new club.

"This is an exciting period of my career as I am coming to a new country, a country I honestly love, and I am part of something brand new," Yorke said. "The Premiership has been a huge part of my life but I am looking forward with excitement about the Hyundai A-League."

"Today has been great as I have been able to meet the lads officially and get back into training. After all I am a football player and this is my work."

"This is the first session for me and my goal is to be as fit as I have been when the A-League kicks off. I am looking forward to the challenge of giving Sydney FC my very best football and that means finding the back of the net on regular basis."

Yorke also said he is settling into Sydney life after arriving on Thursday.

"Everything has been great, except for the sleeping patterns, I am still struggling with that a little bit," he said. "The people have been nice, the club has helped me out and the food here is excellent. I just want to sort out my living conditions as soon as possible and then I will be comfortable."

hey,

been reading your thread and i just have one question.

Welcome to the forum inta. smile.gif

To answer your question, I am not completly sure at this time. I am hoping that we will be getting 20,000 people per match (If we're not already getting that). Hippy Kitty can help out alot here smile.gif. In the days of the nsl the numbers were very high, well over 5000 I remember. Because when the NSL died down and we just had state league, I would go watch the wolves and like they would get 5000 then it just died down to even 2000, which was really bad.

So yes as I said I am hoping 20,000 , but to be completely honest, I wouldn't have a clue. biggrin.gif

I would say JLW has the averages right smile.gif ... and I think once the rugby league season is finished (if it hasn't by the time the season starts - I'd not know, i don't follow it) there will be more people likely to attend a match.

But I think the problem with the games on the Central Coast was their location. I would have loved to go see them play, but Gosford was a hell of a long way to go and also money that I just did not have. SFC also target families and I doubt they would all pack up their kids and go all that way - unless they lived reasonably close.

The game this Saturday should give a good indication of crowds (but add 2 more to that as me and my mate can't make it crying.gif ). Plus we got Dwight Yorke now - we all know he will put bums in seats for a bit.

BTW anyone get membership yet? They screwed mine up ranting.gif Not happy Jan!!! ranting.gif

wow 20 000. that would be a good turnout. yer d.yorke will definatly bring ppl like us to the ground.

(one thing i noticed on the central coast was a whole lot of ppl turned up not having any idea whatso ever about football. hopefully these ppl can get hooked.)

rugby league is attracting alot of families to the games. Football is probally better for the family so these are good signs.

one last thing smile.gif i dont know if u listen to 98.5fm on a sunday night but last night they were complainig about the lack of media coverage on the new a-league. do u reckon its vital for the media to pick up its coverage on the a-league for its success? one of the ppl on the show were saying he cant get excited about the games coming up because he knows nothing. surely if ppl new something about the game before hand thed turn up.

Yeah, we have discussed things like this in other topics here in the Aussie Forum. I'll see if I can find them. If not, you can start a new topic with it.

But I have to say that I agree with the lack of coverage. It's a disgrace, especially since they want it to be big and successful.

Yorke scores in dream Sydney debut
July 23, 2005 - 10:38PM
Sydney FC 3 NZ Knights 1

Dwight Yorke scored on debut as Sydney FC extended its winning streak to 16 games with a win over New Zealand in the A-League pre-season cup clash at Aussie Stadium in Sydney tonight.

Yorke scored from the penalty spot in the 25th minute to give Sydney a 1-0 lead before forward partner Saso Petrovski clinically finished chances in the 45th and 72nd.

The former Manchester United striker, who became the star recruit of the fledgling A-League competition when he signed a two-year deal with Sydney FC two months ago, played 73 minutes in his first game in sky blue before jogging off to a standing ovation from an appreciative 8713-strong crowd.

Ten minutes earlier, the 33-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international nearly made it a debut double, but his strike from close range was well saved by Knights' keeper Danny Milosevic.

Milosevic, the former Olyroo who represented Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, provided stern resistance in goal for the Knights, who came into the match vastly underdone after having their full squad together for only the past fortnight.

Sydney, by contrast, have been mostly together for the past six months, and had already won both the Australian and Oceania legs of the FIFA Club World Championship.

Yorke tried to play down his star appeal during the week, but he was always going to be the the main attraction tonight.

His first touch was greeted with plenty of applause, and he earned the biggest cheer of the night when he casually slotted home a penalty under a diving Milosevic.

Yorke, though, was overshadowed somewhat by Petrovski, who earned Sydney's penalty kick and was a constant threat up forward all game.

The 30-year-old got his first goal with a header at the far post, capitalising on a quality Andrew Packer cross and clever David Carney flick-on.

His second score came via a lobbed pass from Terry McFlynn, which Petrovski latched onto in the box and thundered home.

New Zealand clawed one back in the 84th when Sydney failed to clear a corner, allowing Steve Fitzsimmons to send a scorching strike into the top left corner of the net.

Both sides were understrength with Sydney FC missing both team captain Mark Rudan (groin) and club captain David Zdrillic (lower back), along with utility Matthew Bingley (knee) and defender Mark Milligan (rested).

New Zealand, playing only its second game against an A-League opponent, were without midfielders Josh Maguire and Naoki Imaya, and utility Darren Bazeley.

i was there hippy_kitty

the atmosphere was a litle tentative at first but by the middle of the first half the 100-200 people at one end were chanting like madmen and it was sounding great in a somewhat empty stadium

i think the chants need a little work but it was spinetingling to feel like you were at a game of importance especially with dwight yorke there, that was awesome

its great to see because i thought he would be here to just lurk around and genuinely be a lazy striker but from what i saw he was working his sack off and he is going to hold the ball up well in this comp

he is awesome on the chest

i am going to go to gosford to watch them play theyre next game hopefully, if i can be bothered driving an hr and a bit

A-League strip ...

QUOTE
SYDNEY FC CAPTAIN MARK RUDAN HELPS LAUNCH OFFICIAL PLAYING STRIP
Sydney FC Captain Mark Rudan took time out from the club’s preparations for Saturday night’s Pre-Season Cup clash with the Central Coast Mariners to help launch the official uniform for the Hyundai A-League today.

Socceroo legend Robbie Slater was on hand at the launch at Westfield Bondi Junction to introduce a player from each of the eight Hyundai A-League clubs to model the new performance uniforms that were described by the players as ‘sleek, stylish and fast.’

Along with Rudan, the participating players included Michael Baird (Queensland Roar), Travis Dodd (Adelaide United), Andre Gumprecht (Central Coast Mariners), Noah Hickey (New Zealand Knights), Jade North (Newcastle United Jets), David Tarka (Perth Glory) and Archie Thompson (Melbourne Victory).

Rudan’s first impression of the strip was very positive and would be great in the hotter summer months.

“They uniform feels nice and light which will be great for the competition when it heats up in summer,” Rudan said.

“They look good and from the feel of them they will be easy to run in.”

The defender also said that naturally the Sydney FC strip looked the best, particularly because it featured the NSW State colours of light and navy blue.

“Ours obviously looks the best,” Rudan said with a wry smile.

“I love the fact that we have adopted NSW’s colours and hopefully the whole state will get behind us.”

As well as the Hyundai A-League clubs, the Reebok strip is worn by some of the world’s best teams including Liverpool Football Club, Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers.

Inspired by each individual club, each team uniform is dominated by one proprietary colour and highlighted with an additional two colours to reinforce the apparel’s performance-based look of speed, fit and ultimate comfort.

Sydney FC fans will now also have the opportunity to dress like their team with a complete on-field, off-field and supporter range for Men, Women and Kids now available nationwide at Rebel Sport, Rowe & Jarman, Jim Kidd, Hyundai A-League Clubs, along with independent sports and specialist retailers.

The launch of the official playing strip comes just 33 days before Sydney FC’s opening Hyundai A-League clash with Melbourne Victory on August 28 at Aussie Stadium.

Tickets for the match will be on sale from Ticketek from August 9.

No sorry, don't know when they'll sell them yet, but you can get the limited edition strip on the website - and I think you can get it signed by one of the players (I don't know if that offer is still on, but they have the shirts). They cost $200.

I hope they make women's versions of the shirts ... I bet they won't though dry.gif
