who do you think is the world's fittest athlete. i personally think that it is Justin Gatlin or Michael Phelps. Both has tremendous speed and great strength. Gatlin took home gold in a couple of events in athens and has been winning races indoor and outdoor. Phelps just went crazy in athens taking home like 5 medals. They are just amazing athletes to watch.
When i say fit i mean the best over-all athlete. Including speed, strength,....etc.

No offence but those guys are biult fot burst speed performances. Sprinters have poor stamina in general. Those endurance guys are sick though

Was gonna say Lance as well. Incredible fitness level.
In the olympics the rowing teams were amazingly fit. Holland's rowing team look like it had guys that would never get tired.

Lance Armstrong or the guys that run the marathons.
But I think probably the best are the people participating in the "Ironman" competition, that has to be the toughest competition ever, thus producing the fittest and enduring athletes.

I would have to say Lance Armstrong, the guy defines the word machine for a human, kind of an oxymoron. But he is so fit, and the endurance is impeccable, he is just the best cycler there ever was.
yea lance is amazing......isnt his heart beat like 13 beats a minute or something???

I would also have to agree with most everyone else, Lance is easily the most fit, a resting heart rate of 33.
After him, Id say that in general professional Rugby Union players are the most fit athletes.. the guys run for 80 mins straight and just pound their bodies, incredible.

Lance Armstrong by a country mile. Last year I was at the famous time trial on Alpe d'Huez. I figured that when he came past if I sprinted I would keep with him for like 100/200m (not bragging but I am a fairly fast sprinter) the guy just powered past me like I was stood still. And that is after riding about 3/4 of the way up the mountain already and already riding for like 15 days of competitive cycling. The man is quite simply a machine.

yes dAVID bECKHAM BCOS HE KEEPS ON RUNNING when the beep test is finished he can beat level 23 which is the max as well as Lance Armstrong. Even Rio Ferdinand said he still looks fresh after the tapes finished. Couch potatoes wouldn't even get 5 in the test or probably 3.

ive seen people quit at level 3-4 at age11 if i can remember, i think low pain endurance is the reason for that, anywayi think long distance swimmers are the fittest cos they use nearly every muscle in the body

mate u are funny, Off topic so no offence

But I was going to choose him
well he is born in Feb 24 1981, so that would be 25 next month, man this tiny Aussie is regarded as the fittest player in the circuit, where all are getting tired and niggling injuries, awesome...
David Beckham also must be there, yeah Alex thats him, Beckham, he gives his all while playing, and even after the game he is fit enough to play another...90 minutes..
Lance is the best in what he does, butmy friends does not agree with me, they have a valid point, unlike Becks or Hewitt, Lance plays only one tournament the whole year...he does not play in the Spanish cycling and all...but I somehow think lance is also amazing, but u can't deny my friends's claims

Lance Armstrong and seems to be the general pick. Bloody cyborg hehe.
People are forgetting boxers aswell... boxer train your arses off and do work on speed, strength and endurance. I wouldve picked Kostya Tsyzu.
Anyway... 3 in the beep test is jogging pace i believe. light job so ud have to be VERY unfit to bomb out in beep test. Hehe i get around 7-8... that pretty poor im so unfit. *holds head in shame*

Lances story i have to say is impecable, and his story is an amazing one. I am a huge admirier of lance but i dont think he is the fittest athlete ever. I think people are drawn to say him simply because he had only a 3% chance of living and has come back to win the toughest bike race a record 7 times. There are many people fitter than him i am sure, he only really does one serious race a year. Also he has retired so no longer is an athlete of the current day he should be seen more as a cycling god and legend, OH shit i just managed to convince myself armstrong is amazing lol

Ladainian Tomlinson, Running Back for the San Diego Chargers of the NFL
Dude can bench press more then any footy player and i'd wager that he is quicker and faster then 95% of them. Guy has imense stamina to carry the ball 30 times a game and still come back for more.

To be fair its probably Cristiano Ronaldo. He can do like 20 step overs in a row and still adjust his socks at the end of it.

I beg to differ American football players do get to have breaks while playing when the defence takes over while the only break Football players get is really during half time. When you say quicker and faster do you mean over a long distance or a short distance?
