Hello!
I haven't found a Werder Bremen thread in this forum so I take the initiative.
Here you can discuss about Werder's chances in the new Bundesliga season. Will they triumph over Bayern and Schalke two years after the double? How will they do in the CL-Qualifications against FC Basel? And then maybe in the CL-groupstage?
In my opinion Werder will make it this season! Klaus Allofs buyed some great players to expand the team and i think with Naldo (Juventude) and Frings (Bayern) they have the right persons to replace Valerien Ismael (Bayern) and Fabian Ernst (Schalke). Additionally Patrick Owomoyela, Jelle van Damme and Jurica Vranjes have their chances to improve.
My prediction regarding the Basel matches: 2:1 and 3:1 for Werder

I think that they will go through the qualifying stage, allthough you can´t underestimate Basel. And if they make it, they should go through the group stage too, but we´ll see.
And I also think that they are Bayern´s biggest threat in the Bundesliga, but I don´t think they will win the title.
And I have to admit I like the entertaining football Werder usually plays. We´ll see lots of goals at least at Weserstadion. And I also hope a good season for our international, Petri Pasanen. I guess they´ll be making a good pair with Naldo, but it is quite early to say.

Werder Bremen will do a good season, and finish 3rd in the bundesliga(again). as kyynaama mentioned, werder bremen plays very offensive and good football, just as we want it. they are imo one of the most offensive teams in the whole world.
In the CL bremen will beat basel, im not sure how much , but i tip they'll win 1-0 in the away match and 3-0 in the home match. but dont underrate basel. they are actually a good team. when(if)they make it to the second round, i think and hope(i like werder bremen a bit for their offensive football) they'll go through the groupstage, and if they are lucky with the draw they may get to the quarter-final. then everything is possible. remember porto, monaco and liverpool....
to the new players i am looking forward to see naldo play, he is quick and has a good shot.
good luck to werder before the new season

I think they will be 3rd again behind Bayern and Schalke. Good to see Frings back and Naldo is also a very good signing. But somehow, I don't rate Owomoyela that high, don't know why
In the CL quali, they will beat Basel. 1-1 there and 3-0 at home. They will also go trough the groupstages but in the 1/8 final, there will be something like last year (bad bad memories lol)
And welcome to SP Schneisler, always nice to see germans here

Thank you very much for the compliments!
In Bremen we love our offensive style, too. Attacking fottball stands for the label Werder Bremen and isn't truly typical german. But sometimes they play a little bit to offensive which is the reason why we take in nearly every game at least one goal. Results like the 2-7 against Lyon are painful examples for diverse blackouts of our defense

Our parrot-style jerseys are an other thing, that makes us different to the other german clubs! Our brazilian newbe Naldo loves them:

Welcome

nice to have you with us.
isn't it Klasnic on the pic and not Naldo?
i think Werder can surprise us all this season. i have a feeling that they will give Bayern a hard fight for the title, so i think they will be top3 at the end of the season and if they qualify for CL(which i hope) they will make it to the round of the last 16.

Basel 2-1 Bremen
well I can't say something about the game because I didn't watch it. I've read that the defence was really poor.

Yeah, the game yesterday against Basel was a pure disgrace. Basel was over 70 minutes the clearly better team and our defense was like a pack of wild chickens! Up to the second half Basel could have shot more than three goals but Werder was very lucky. It was a pure shame
In the second half Werder was a little bit firmer because the trainer Thomas Schaaf changed both wing-defenders van Damme and Davala for Schulz and Owomoyela. But they still were far away from their normal standart and were lucky again. In the 70th minute Miro Klose got the ball 15 meters centrally in front of the basel goal, turned around his opponent and shot the ball indefensibly in the right corner of the goal. After that Werder dominated Basel and could have shot a second (undeserved) goal, but the Basel-Goalie saved a Klasnic header like a worldclass-keeper! The goals for Basel were shooten by David Degen (28.) and Julio Rossi (52.) which were both well played but benefitted by unbeliebable blackouts in the Werder defense.

whats ur favourite players on werder?
mine is naldo, i just like him as a player. he is fast, and has a very good shot. against bielefeld werder were awarded a freekick not far from the center-line, and naldo tried a shot! i really like players who aint afraid of shooting freekicks from 35 metres or more, like naldo and bordon to mention some. i guess we'll see some thunder-freekicks from naldothis season

other werder-players i like are klose, klasnic, baumann and micoud.

Aug 11 2005, 12:28 PM
they were poor, but a 1-0 win would be enough in 2 weeks, so it doesn't look bad.
i liked Ismael at Werder.
now i like Micoud, Klasnic and Borowski(is from my father's hometown).

The german sports website sport1.de reports, that Atletico Madrid wants to seign either Tomas Rosicky from Borussia Dortmund or Johan Micoud from Werder Bremen. I think that Atletico will get neither of them. They are to expensive and valuable for the clubs. Werder won't let another key player go!
energy41
Aug 12 2005, 12:54 PM
i agree with you, but actually only Rosicky would makes sense for Atletico, because the much larger future potential.
Micoud should stay for sure.

Werder won yesterday 2:0 in Mainz and seems to be good recovered from the disastrous game against FC Basel. Especially the defense

was absolutly improved and the offense with Klose and Klasnic was brilliant once again! The best Werder players were Andi Reinke (great goalkeeper), Miro Klose (one goal, one asist), Tim Borowski (one asist) and Patrick Owomoyela (great tacklings)

Aug 15 2005, 09:32 AM
very good start for Bremen. if they continue like this they can really give Bayern a challenge in fight for the league title.
Mainz are not in good form so it was easy for Bremen. Borowski pass to Klose before the 2-0 was class.

yeah, Tim Borowski from the youth of FC Tollense Neubrandenburg

i think they are good enough to beat Basel 1-0 or 2-0 to reach the CL groupstage
(hope they will reach it)

Borowski tackle vs van der Vaart and the great pass to Asamoah for the 2-2 yesterday were simply world class

today Werder will play at home vs Basel in the CL qualification.
they need a 1-0 win to qualify for the CL and i hope they will do it

.
here is the squad for todays game
Reinke, K. Jensen, Pasanen, Andreasen, Naldo, Owomoyela, Schulz, van Damme, Baumann, Vranjes, Borowski, D. Jensen, Frings, Micoud, Hunt, Klose, Klasnic, Valdez

it would be very important to earn more money and for the Bundesliga.

Aug 24 2005, 03:44 PM
Yes!! Werder made it!

3:0 and 2 goals by Klasnic, one goal by Borowski (penalty). All goals in the second half. It could be a 4 or 5:0 but Micoud missed a penalty in the first half and had the 4:0 in the 85th minute on his foot, but failed against Zuberbühler. But a sovereign 3:0 win is good enough

Aug 24 2005, 04:15 PM
Yeh it was eserved but lucky.... dont forget the good chances if Basel early in the 2nd hald by Delgado and Degen if one of these attempts were succesful the game would have been lost

But that cup of tea was never ordered luckily
energy41
Aug 25 2005, 05:19 AM
great result

, maybe one goal to high.
Werder showed their class in the second half. the 1-0 was funny, because if Klasnic hadn't made a touch on the ball it would have been Owomoyela's goal even
he just tackled for the ball 20 metres away from the goal

Werder will play against Barca, Udinese and Panathinaikos. a very hard group, but it is possible to reach the next round!

i think and hope werder will make it trough. at home they may beat barca, and im almost 100% sure that a werder bremen-team in form will beat both panathinaikos and udinese at home, and they may steal some points away too

Barca is the clear number 1 in the group. Werder has to fight for second, but i think they have enough quality to become second in the group.

I'm not too sure if Werder will become 2nd, Udinese and Panathinaikos are very good teams and we have to wait and see how Werder will progress in the first two games. I won't say a prediction before the first two games.
energy41
Aug 26 2005, 02:30 PM
right, but Werder knows now what's going on. for me they are better than Panatinaikos and they can overcome Udinese aswell, Werder isn't one of my big Bundesliga title candidates for nothing. they are clever, this can be deciding.

good news on Zidan. young talent Hunt is in the 4 striker rotation now and will get his chances to improve from time to time and Mainz will hope to score goals which they hopefully won't do too often
