My high school pre-season started today. I trained all summer for it(running long distance and playing) but i'm still not as fit as i feel i should be. During practice, our coach makes us do fitness drills/running but i think it will be also good for me to do some additional work on my own(as in running long distance and sprints). Do you all think it's necessary 4 me 2 do the extra training? The reason i ask is because i'm worried about overtraining and burning out.

If you can go 60 minutes straight at full capacity, you're probably fine. High school doesn't have substitution restrictions either so fitness isn't of the utmost importance.

Thanks for the reply. Our games are 80 mins long and my coach said that if you are a starter, you should be able 2 play the whole match. And 2 be honest, i really dont want 2 come off the field anyway. laugh.gif

i know during my highschool season i would wake up in the morning before school and go on a run. It had 0 negative effects on me so, i dont think this is really overtraining, but remember to listen to your body nd if you need a day off then take it off.

If you want to stand out and be betetr than the rest u should add some extra training.
