I don't follow NFL, but this is a sad story. I seem to remember another guy dying a few years back during pre-season - guy called Stringer perhaps?

Sadly over the last few years theres been about an average of one player dying in training camp each year. These guys are superathletes and are pushed to incredible extremes, most of the time in the grueling sun.

Instead of investigating about how a very small minority of players in baseball cheat using steroids the U.S Congress should do something about the conditions that some of these training camps are held in. Last I checked nobody died for cheating with steroids, but its been about five guys that have died in the football field.

rest in peace.

Yeah I posted this in the NFL thread earlier. Very sad news to hear. These linesmen are getting too big IMO, and risking their lives because of it.

Yes, Korey Stringer. He died during the Minnesota Vikings' training camp, in the heat and humidity of Mankato in August..

more teams should invest in the indoor practice areas...like the cardinals......a lot better for players....1 life lost a year due to heat stroke is FAR to much
bob
Arizona doesn't invest in it... Northern Arizona University has a domed stadium (J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome) because of its weather.

I don't know him or much of NFL either, but RIP, my condolenses goes out to his family.

Coroner says Herrion died from heart disease

NFL.com wire reports

DENVER (Sept. 6, 2005) -- San Francisco 49ers lineman Thomas Herrion died from heart disease when he collapsed after a preseason game in Denver on Aug. 20, the Denver County coroner said.

Herrion had ischemic heart disease, with significant blockage in his right coronary artery that caused the death of heart muscle, the city health department said in a news release. Herrion's heart was slightly enlarged.

Drug screens on Herrion's blood and urine found only atrophine, a drug administered when medical personnel tried to revive him.

Herrion, 23, was pronounced dead early on the morning of Aug. 21. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound guard was on the field for San Francisco's 14-play, 91-yard drive that ended with a touchdown with 2 seconds left.

Players had finished listening to coach Mike Nolan address them in a postgame meeting when Herrion collapsed. Medics administered CPR on him and took him to an ambulance that rushed him to a nearby hospital.

About three hours later, 49ers spokesman Aaron Salkin confirmed that Herrion had been pronounced dead.

Poor guy. I would have thought that 23 is pretty young to have such significant heart disease.
