Well in basketball pros wear what colour they want (often the colour of the kit) and the shoe advertising still works. I don't know why they don't do this in soccer specialy now when they have nikeid & miadidas so everyone can chose what colour they want.

well custom shoes make you stand out as well. i don't think that the companies don't want the players to wear custom id, maybe they just choose not to. i mean, custom shoes cost more than the regular shoes so that means more money for the companies. also, if someone wears custom vapors or custom pulses, they are still vapors and pulses so people would still buy those shoes.

Basketball is a different situation. From what ive seen basketball marketing is much more saturating than soccer marketing. A players sponsor is almost more important than their team. I think id also be correct in saying that the range of basketball shoes avalible is much, much bigger than the soccer equilivilant. Its a different market (and a largly american market), so different marketing is used.
Further, you have to remember that the average player is nowhere near as obsessed as most of us in the boot room are. They see boots on their fave players feet, they go to their local shop and they buy them. Or maybe they just see them in the shop and buy them sight unseen. Go ask your whole team if they know what nikeid and miadidas are. Most of them will think you're weird. Thats according to my situation though.
As further proof remember the photos of duff and trezeguet wearing f50s disguised in f50+ colours? They personally rathered wearing the original f50s but it would ruin adidas' marketing agenda.
