In terms of someone doing it to you (ie. them cutting into you with the blades) or the blades themselves causing injury to the ones wearing them due to their different grip than studs)

kinda both, u can break your leg if ur foot is planted on the ground, cus blades dont give u a turning circle then it is more likely as well. but they never really sed anything about that. alan pardew and the sheffield united coach was on it quite scary, they are tryin to ban it. united has banned it completely, they are tryin to convince people like o'shea not to wear them.

Now that I think about it, the injury I suffered last week was due to my foot staying put at the place where I stepped at, and my body kept going.
It was also wet and soggy and I was wearing hard soil blades, but you made a great thread without even knowing it.
It is very true that as a player I have worn studs until I bought the New Dragon Pulses 2 months ago. I have noticed great grip with these cleats, and I had nothing but good things to say from the K-Leather monsters I had purchased.... but that fateful Sunday mid-afternoon my ankle turned all kinds of purple...
I'm still out of comission, 1 week and counting, and I don't ever recall twisting my ankle this bad. I think BBC is on to something, ver interesting.

This same point was brought up years ago when the first boots with blades were released (Cica i think). There were loads of doctors saying that you could do some serious knee injures by your foot not being able to twist and turn in the ground. Ive never had any problems due to wearing blades but it does make sense.

You can injure yourself by using blades. If u play in a fast position and try n turn quick you can injure yourself easily bcoz the blades are not round like studs and can get caught in the groundmuch easier

If they catch a stone a tear slightly they can get a sharp egde. It doesnt have to be sharp to touch but raked down a shin or leg they can tear the skin open easily. The same however can happen with standard plastic studs if they get damaged as well.

People walk on concrete with them on, or a hard ground which will sharpen the metal blade up. I was out playing football at the time but my Mum said something about this programme, I had heard somewhere that alot of Premiership clubswere banning their players wearing them. I know at the back end of last season referees were starting to check the studs on our football boots to see if they are sharp.

The issue has come up a lot as other people have said. The Sunday Times published an article around a year ago about how Man Utd had banned their players using blades. The Mirror needed some filler last week so they re-hashed the article but it's actually bollocks. Off the top of my head O'Shea, Richardson and Gary Neville use Adidas blades.
I think it's blown out of proportion - these injuries could happen with any sort of studs.

its mainly the metal adidas blades that are being villianised here, but IMO the twisting etc injuries are generic to all blades.

ya with blades their is an increase in the possibility of injury. but it seems highly unlikely to me. i use both blades and conical studs and there is a slight difference between the two, but nothing that will jeopardise my health. so i guess until one of us breaks his leg cuz of his blades well just be talking about the CHANCE of injury. ps. i don't do very much running, ie goalie lol, so i guess blades are safer if u don't need to do as many cuts and sprints etc.

Cisse broke his leg and he wore f50's plus the player didnt touch him so i guess he twisted awkwardly

oh yeh the goalie in my uncle's football team snapped his tendon and he wore predator prcisions but dunno if the boot caused it, its likely cus no 1 was withing 50 yards of him. he simply walked backwards.

I play as a striker or winger, because of this I turn at high speed quite a lot and stop and start quite a lot and I only ever use blades, be it dry or wet and I have never picked up an injury through theses, however everyone is different.

I ahve always worn blades (bar my vaps)and have never injured myself while wearing them. However, in december last year, when wearing my vaps (sg) I put my foot down and tried toi turn, but my foot was caught in the ground. I tore ligaments and was within millimetres of a badly broken ankle. My Ankle swole to the size of a medium sized grapefruit (no joke)

I have the F50 FG and I don't like my blades. They never seem to dig in fully, so I don't know what's wrong. Maybe my field is too hard?

watchdog on bbc recently investigated the effect of blades. many premiership clubs are banning them and some of the post-match injuries are gruesome
no doubt that boots with blades look a lot better than wit studs or moulds

Why would you wear cleats on astro?
You must wear Turf cleats for that one...
Fun Fact:
The harder the surface you play, the harder it is on your joints... the bones, not the fun kind of joints.

Blades are always gonna be worse than a normal shoe because blades have less surface area, creating more pressure on your knees and ankles.

I never even thought of that, but that is a very valid point. In my blades, I'm not even all the way in the ground anymore, my heel is always up. Hurts my heels as well. Gonna get some T90s next.

I dont get why they're all bad mouthing adidas, Vapors (with the exception of the SG's) have blades, and if your gonna say the T90 3's are better, just look at how many people say the have horrible grip nad all; even players after Euro 2004 complained about the traction, so I highly doubt adidas, etc. would make boots that could potentialy injur players

But the blades should be cutting into the surface and therefore the weight is distributed onto the sole of the boot too (because the blades would be sunk into the ground and the top of the ground will be touching the bottom of the boots). I would also argue that Adidas SG blades have more surface area than traditional studs because there are more blades than studs, and in any case the surface area of one Adidas SG blade is still the same as a stud.
If there is less surface area it won't have an effect on knees or ankles. It might affect your feet but less surface area only makes a difference to how the blades or studs go into the ground. The force hitting the ground is the same, the force or your foot stopping suddenly as it hits the ground. There is no really difference to your joints.

That was printed in a newspaper (either the Sunday Mail or the Sunday Times, I can't remember) months ago, then The Mirror picked up the story again a few weeks ago to fill up some column space. Finally Watchdog had an item on it recently.
However... it's a load of bollocks.
http://editorial.gettyimages.com/source/se...0%7c0&p=2&tag=1There you will find pictures from Sunday. In the third row down you can clearly see Richardson wearing SG blades and on the bottom row you see O'Shea with the same boots. Van Der Saar also wears SG blades.

That's more to do with the fact that you were wearing SG on a hard surface. That would have happened with normal studs too.

Well, this is quite relevant to me i think. I was playing just 2 weeks ago with my F50+'s, which have the metal blades. During the game, i felt pain in my ankle/achilles area, which got worse and worse. However i was fine after the game, until the following week when i was in the park, having a kick around, when i hurt my achilles. Damn it hurt, i just sort of pulled it and i heard a twitch as i felt it giving way. I dunno why but im guessing it was due to the metal blades, so i've decided to invest in b3ans's air legends for firm ground. Hopefully that should settle the problem. But seriously, this injury sucks, i felt sharp pain all the way up my leg, and 2 weeks on i think i may have hurt it again, i dunno for sure yet, but i was playing indoor and i hurt another twitch so i promptly came off. Hopefully it'll heal quickly, but im gonna rest for a few days just in case.
