The US U-17 National Team began its World Youth Championship today with a victory over North Korea, 3-2. In the other game of the group, Italy earned a 4-3 win over Ivory Coast.
I would have to say the US team played some very uninspired soccer in the first game and are going to have to look for a lot more in the second game of the group versus Italy. Games are being televised on Galavision and FSC.

I don't pay much attention to the U17, but good to see them pick up 3 pts none the less! thumbsup.gif

Another reason I wish I had FSC!!! Good result for the boys though. Second game will prove a much bigger challenge though.

Well turns out, I didn't give North Korea any credit for how good they are. USA out-classed Italy in 3-1 win that really got out of hand at the end. One of the Italian forwards was just looking for a fight at the end of the game and made a gesture at the American supporters section which is basically just parents. It was disgraceful. Yet the Americans have clinched a spot in the quarterfinals with the win and in the other game in the group, North Korea destroyed Ivory Coast 3-0. Thats the good news, the bad news is Nic Besagno appears to be injured from the game which could be costly going into the round of eight. USA also has a very tough draw, facing either Gambia, Holland, or Brazil in the quaters. But one step at a time, first is Ivory Coast, then the quaters. I encourage anyone with Galavision or FSC to watch these games. Remember Donovan, Beasley, Onyewu, and Convey all came from the same U-17 team, they made it to the Semis and ended up taking 4th place in the tourney. It would be nice to see this team duplicate that.
And for our southern buddies, Mexico is putting on a show in their group and if they beat Turkey, we could be looking at a USA-Mexico final biggrin.gif

Yup, just read a report on the game. Another good result for our boys! thumbsup.gif

I may try catching a game if there are some on the weekend. We'll see.

I watched the goals over in the video section and I just have to say:

OUR GOALKEEPER IS ATROCIOUS!

blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

- That free kick from 35 yards out that he didn't even get a hand on (and not screened at all)!

- That fumble. Although, his defender was partly to blame.....the goalkeeper is ultimately responsible for communication on the back line and the collision was due to poor communication.

- That corner where he was TOTALLY in no-man's land.

etc.....SERIOUSLY, there must be a better goalkeeper in our country! blink.gif

No offense the guy...he's trying...but his judgement is NOT GOOD.

He is still young so his mental maturity is not there but the kid is a solid keeper. He might just be nervous or having trouble with the artifical grass. I am not sure, but I have played against him and he is a solid keeper. Though, I agree one of the back-ups should get a chance tonight but we will wait and see.
Anyway, how about that free kick goal from the Irvine kid in the Italy game? What a rocket.

I'm the same age as the keeper playing, and I see his mistakes, and I'm just gawking...I make some mistakes, but I've only been playing 2.5 years as keeper. I wish I could get on the team and all...but I can't and it happens.

Other than that, I watched the US-Ivory Coast game, but only the first half. I got bored after a while, and a show I liked more came on. The US played well in the first half, holding IC scoreless, and there weren't and keeper errors if I recall. Good luck to the US boys.

Fair enough, I've only seen him in those clips in the video forums....but it was such a collection of blunders in just two games!

The free kick.....no excuse....didn't even get a hand on it..

That corner....he came off his line RIGHT as the guy was heading it....NO SIR do not do that....take a step to cut it down, but do not leap like he did...

The fumble was a bit unlucky but still his fault imo....you murder your own players if you have to....

I could see those all being due to nerves...but man! blink.gif

Indeed, that free kick against Italy by Nazakawa or whatever his name is was BRILLIANT.

And american keep, I'd like to see you get a look on the national team.....wink.gif

1-1 Final, Ivory grabbed it late in the game after an American had been sent off. Anyway, Americans move on as #1 in the group. This shapes up very interestingly (Costa Rica vs Mexico) vs (US vs Holland) for the semi. If the US can dare I say beat Holland, we are looking at a Concacaf team in the final. I would love to see this US vs Mexico match up in the semis but one step at a time.
The game against Holland is on monday, should be a good one.

And about the goalie, yeah I am still puzzled about that free kick. I dont know what he was thinking. If he wanted to shield it for a goal kick why didnt he? He was kinda there and the ball came by and he watched.
TC
did Jamal Geathers play?

our club played him and the kid is an animal........SO FAST is insane
