FREDDIE FLINTOFF has revealed how one rival all-rounder upstaged him at every turn when they played for the Lancashire youth team — England soccer star Phil Neville.

Neville was a fantastic cricketer before making his millions as a footballer with Manchester United and Everton.

And Freddie says he barely got a look-in when he joined the Under-13 team Neville dominated.

He said: “I was quickly brought down to earth.

“I was in the same side as Phil Neville and Mark Chilton, who became a team-mate of mine at Lancashire.

“They were so good I didn’t get much of an opportunity batting at No 5.

“Phil would bowl teams out and Mark would knock the runs off.

“Watching them play gave you an idea of what a good player looked like, especially Phil. He opened the batting and the bowling.

“But he was a passionate Manchester United supporter.

“I don’t suppose he regrets his decision!”

hmm.. did he choose a wrong career ?l

I may sound bias, but i think Phil had a great career in football. So whatcha mean "wrong career"... He wasn't better than Gary, but remember a few years back, the times of Glory glory United, the times of Cantona etc. Phil was great back then.

Look at Flintoff, his like the odd one out, who just made the team, standing on the side, probably the 12th man lol.

On Skysports a few months ago it showed you a Lancashire under 15 scorecard from many years ago.

Everyone was suprised that Phil Neville in that game had scored a century and taken 7 wickets, completely outshining Flintoff. Apparently he could've been a great cricketer.

Could've been useful for England then.

i already knew this, and Gary was a great cricketer.

they both had to choose between cricket and football... now for englands sake gary chose the right sport but phil could of done alot better job as a cricketer, instead of his 40 odd caps and the only thing hes achieved is getting us knocked out of cup competitions for doing fouls late in the game for no reason what so damn ever.

Phil will have been good as a vricketer may be Gary convinced him about football

Bit like Cygan for us lol, believe it or not he is actually one of the best tennis players in France.
If he chose Tennis as his profession instead of Football they reckon he'd be one of the best players in the world.

Apparently Fergie couldn't understand why Neville was even contemplating playing cricket for a living if football was an option.
