Hi guys, I am going to buy Nomis 'the Spark'. Can anyone give me some advice on sizing?
I have been told by 2 online shops to get half a size down from my UK size in Predators... But it will be great to know if anyone has first hand experience with Nomis boots so they can give me their thoughts.
Also, does anyone know what is the US and UK size difference for Nomis?
Thanks.

I have the Red Spark in US sz 10 and I have a pair of Pulse SGs in sz 9.5 . My Pulses are a little tight but my Sparks are just perfect. So, I guess it just depends on how you like to wear your boots. But if you asked me... I'd say that you skip on the Spark and go for the Glove. My bro has Black Pearls and I think they hold up and grip better wet or dry. I hope i helped. Good luck.

UK is half a size smaller - so 10US (my size) = 9.5UK.
Regarding DrSkillz post above - what are your playing conditions? If you play a lot in the wet, go for the glove too. The comfort is sublime.
DrSkillz - any chance of some pics?

Thanks a lot for your reply guys. I have ordered the Spark half a size down. I liked the red colorway coz it suited my kit... I don't play much in the rain, so I think these will be fine for me.
Anyways hopefully they will be with me by tomorrow and I can post up some pics later the week.
Thanks again.

Regarding what Just_Visiting said, I play on an extremely hard grass field... well there isnt much grass to be honest and it sucks. And sorry, I dont have a digital camera or anything, so as far as pics go it could be a while.

DEFINITELY BUY A SIZE DOWN!!!....i had to return mine because my toes were floating around...now they mold to my feet...
i have the sparks in silver...good stuff...take good care of them cus the protective layer of "control grip" can peel off and expose the leather...you'll be surprised of the extreme flexibility in the leather, it's pretty sweet

yeah, they look really really sexy when they're brand new... but after constant usage, the leather cracks, but it still works fine. i sent a pm about the water absorbtion.. i really is amazing how it keeps so dry/dries so fast

after using them, just wipe em clean with some water and dry them off with a soft cloth, don't use anything other than water, it would prolly screw up the coating

I'm in the UK and they cost me 110 pounds. Can't find anywhere which offered a discount for these red ones. However, I know one place that offer 15% discount for other colorways and models.

Right guys, I have wore the Spark for 2 games. Here's what I think of them:
1. Sizing and fit: I had to go down ONE size from my Predator Pulse size. I originally chose a pair of half size down, but they didn't feel right. The Spark is built very similar to the Predator, although the toebox is much wider. Not sure how heavy these are, but they are definitely lighter than the Pulse.
2. Comfort: the cushioning is most impressive. The insoles have a thick heel cushion and I definitely noticed that immediately after I put them on. Many folks have said they don't get blisters but I got one at the achilles tendon area, I think because the boots were small for me (small meaning short, that's the tradeoff for a snug fit...), but this problem should resolve in time.
3. Leather: the 'tacky' leather is quite interesting. You run your hand on it and you can feel the grip, it's just like 'first-touch coating' offered by Nike. I was told that this tacky leather patented by Nomis isn't a coating, but is rather the actual leather quality produced during tanning. Does it improve your first touch? Maybe, but I can't really tell. I played a game in wet weather and I certainly don't think the grip improved! But the quality of leather is excellent, nice and soft, especially at the sides. The heel area (the white bit of my boot) is made of synthetics, and the only complaint from me is that it gets marked easily from other folk's boot studs.
4. Studs and soleplate: the Spark's studs are shorter than the Predator's or F50+ FG studs. Didn't have any problems like stud pressure. The soleplate is adhered to the leather like Diadora boots, that it kind of goes further up than Adidas boots, which I think makes it more difficult from splitting (because the 'tension point' is not at the leather-soleplate junction).
5. Waterproof: yes these boots are waterproof! My feet and socks didn't get wet at all under a Scottish rainstorm. I think the tongue helped with the waterproofing because it is quite large and thick. The tongue elastic is thinner than the Pulse's, but I don't intend to wear the tongue like Beckham.
6. Final comments: I rate these as the best/2nd best K leather boots I have. (The other being the Puma King Exec but these 2 boots have drastically different characteristics) Although I did get a blister, the heel cushioning was the plus side. The leather quality is excellent, and the waterproof property is ideal for the ever-changing Scottish weather I am under.
Hope this was useful guys. Let me know if you have any questions.

when i think blister, i usually think on my foot. so i didn't mention the achillies tendon part. i got on there too, but thats because i wasn't wearing long socks. i was just having fun with my friends after school and trying to break them in when i noticed the back end of the boot is a lot higher than any other pair i've worn. and being the fool i am, i continued to play for a good 2 hours and when i got home, there was a popped blister waiting for me. i still have scars there actually... and without a doubt, these are the best boots i've ever had

Hmmm, close call here. The King Execs are incredibly light, but the Spark has great cushioning. I have to say I think King Execs just edge it, but overall I like the Spark just a bit more because of the fit (King Exec has an unusual profile and I had to 'change' the way I shoot).

Hey AHCL20 - Great boots by the way! If you have the sparks I would not expect much improvement in grip when you play in the wet as they are dry grip ones. The wet grip boots are the ones that the grip improves in the wet.

Ha ha. I know I know. Stating the obvious - but ahcl20 obviously was expecting the grip on his sparks to get better in the wet - which they won't do. (Or do they?)

I didn't know whether dry grip works in the wet... I just gave a casual comment on it.
I read in another thread that the grip material wears off... and this does happen quite fast (happening on my pair already!!!). I wrote a email to Nomis asking them whether I should use leather food, and also about this wear and tear problem with the leather. They say leather food should not be used because the leather treatment should keep the leather nice and soft, but the boots are not 'scuff-proof'. The Spark is not very durable if you ask me, I think the grip coating will be gone in 15-20 games, especially at the front. Slightly annoyed by this!

I don't think so, if you are sending them back because of the rapid wear and tear. In the email, Nomis stressed that the boot is not scuff proof.

So if you put leather food on the boot it will wear off the grip? whaa?

Here's what Nomis wrote:
"A feature of this leather technology is that it doesn't require the use of any dubbin or leather food, the technology will keep the leather soft and supple for the life of the boot. The use of these products would have a negative effect of the control performance of the leather."
But I think if the coating wears off, the leather will dry up so I will be using leather food when that happens.

so is the grip coating just like a thin layer of pepaer like stuff or is it like chemicals or something??..these boots seem to sound a lil worse with all this
AHCL20
Oct 8 2005, 10:27 AM
I think the leather undergoes special tanning to make it soft, and perhaps this texture adds grip too, but IMO definitely there's a layer of the grip chemical coating on the outside. Yeah this problem definitely takes the gloss away from the other good aspects of the boot.
