I didnt start this topic earlier because I didnt want to jinx it but since the Padres clinched the Western Division title about an hour ago I figure this is about as good a time as ever.

So let everybody start talking: but you're right at .500 you cant be winning divisions, well you can if you're in the same division as the Snakes, Rockies, Giants and (especially) the Dodgers. Besides, come this tuesday records dont count and I like our chances against the Cardinals (beat 'em 4 out of 7) and the Braves (beat 'em 5 out of 6) so bring them on!

Theres still three spots to be determined: the NL and AL Wildcards and the AL Central and East where its pretty much dead even between the Sox and Yanks. Hopefully we wont have both of those teams in the playoffs because that story line is certainly getting old.

So as of right now theres four teams in: The Padres, Braves, Cards, and Angels. So my Padres-Angels scenario is still alive and well.

dont the sox have their last 3 games gainst the Yanks at Fenway. can easily overcome a 1.0 GD. interesting to see who wins the Al Wild Card coz Cleveland is very much in it.

Yeah I went to the first game last night. The atmosphere was out of this world. It was a really entertaining game too.

I'm a big yankee fan even though i come from da uk. This is what i think will happen .New york and boston are tied at 1-1 going in2 tonights game but yankees r going to win to clinch da AL east tiitle in which cleveland will win da match 2 clinch da wildcard and knock boston out of da playoffs. Lol

Ideally I'd like a rematch against the Yankees in the World Series because they swept us back in '98 but I'm actually kinda tired of the ol Yanks-Sox ALCS so I have to go with my original pics from the beginning of the season: Padres vs Angels in a good 'ol Southern California duel.

Realistically though the Cardinals won 100 games and the Padres 82. So its a really lopsided playoff but it is after all a playoff and the Padres already took three out of four from the Cards at Busch this season so I have to like our odds. If we get through the Cardinals the Astros and Braves shouldnt be a big deal.

The NL contenders are the same four that went to the playoffs back in '98 so if you believe in dharma, fate, destiny than this is a good sign. Go Padres! at least take it to five.

The pool would be eight people take a team each and put in a set amount of money and whichever team wins that person wins all the money. Teams should be selected at random but I got the Padres. It was a joke by the way, though we have three people now so I guess we can make a pool with no money in it.

You like Orange? well the Orioles were eliminated long ago by the Yankees (mostly) and the Giants were dealt with last week by the Padres so its your choice really. The Astros sort of use orange so you can take them.

Yeah its a good story: they used to be the Los Angeles Angels, then they changed to the California Angels then the Anaheim Angels (where they won a championship) then the owner (some mexican guy) wanted the team to be from Los Angeles but the people of Anaheim wanted them to be from Anaheim so they reached what is quite possibly the worse compromise ever:

Yes, they mean the colors of the actual sox. The old timers used to pretty much all wear white uniforms but the colors of their sox changed.

BTW. Don't get me confused with a baseball fan. I mildly enjoy the sport. I go to an odd game and may watch on tv, but usually I only watch it on TV during the playoffs when the juices are going. Much better atmosphere.

During the middle of July, I often find that a afternoon game on a saturday is an excellent way to induce a nap. Lay on the couch. Turn on the TV. Listen to the silence of the crowd. If I'm tired, I can be out in half an inning

Come on Josh! summer baseball is something that everybody has to experience before they die. Its lost on you, of course, because of that Dome and the hefty bag but nothing beats a hot day, bad seats, ice cream, a hot dog, your girl and a major league baseball game i miss it already.

You have a good shot with the Astros Scousy, I dont particularly care for them but the Astros are the wild card team (best second place) and I do believe that the last four World Series were won by wildcard teams (D-Backs, Angels, Marlins and Red Sox) so if the tradition continues you're sitting pretty.

And as pointed out earlier the "sox" thing does refer to the colour of their socks. Remember: these teams have existed since the very early 1900's so a tradition is a tradition. I guess you can consider the use of "sox" instead of "socks" the first instance of Net Speak in the modern world. Baseball rocks huh.

Well, you have a point there. And I still go to some games. Maybe one game a year... But regarding the Dome, yeah, it sucks. I remember going to games at the old Met stadium. That was, indeed, an exceedingly better experience than going to the Dome. Still a great way to catch a nap on the couch at home though!

And the first game of the post season is over, The Padres nearly came from behind an 8-0 deficit and lost 8-5. It figures, on paper the Padres shouldnt even be in the playoffs, but shit happens right.

But they always seem to choke when it comes to the playoff's (except when the Jays beat them )
