What's the best way to do a cross behind your leg kick, i.e. if you're right footed, you plant your left leg on the right side of the ball, slightly ahead of it, then your right leg crosses behind your left and kicks the ball.
Are there any pointers, technical tricks that make this easier? Are you supposed to toe punch the ball? How does CRonaldo and Maradona get such height on the ball when they do this move?
Thanks.

I think it really depends on how much you get under the ball, and making sure your foot is positioned properly. Also the technical term for the move is "La Bona" I believe? Correct me if i'm wrong.
Anyway, if i'm going to toe poke it, its usually intented as a pass along the ground rather than a cross. To attempt a cross I try to swing my leg as hard as I can getting UNDER the ball, like a normal chip, and I get good height on it.
Hope this helps

I tend to do this a lot, became second nature, you gotta hit the ball perfect otherwise it goes astray and you look stupid, jus hit the right point with enough power.

The technical term is the Rabona, after the player who first did it(he was called Rabona, if you hadn't already guessed)

Aha, I KNEW THAT Lol.
The term escaped me at the moment of writing

La Bona/Rabona, so close, must be the spanish influencing my use of "La"

Veron does this beautifully... I try it but I can't do it well. I need some pointers... anyway I have a decent left foot, but the rabona looks so much classier.
can anyone give good instructions on how to do it?

Just pretend your gunna shoot, Basically where you strike the ball form when your shooting normally for free kicks etc. use that part of your foot but the difference is you gotta bring it in, in a diagonal motion and try to get under the ball plus use your arms to give you alot of balance and a little more thrust power hope this helped.

With your right foot. That's the point of a rabona - to hit the ball with the favorite foot.

Ohh ok. I thought I was doing it wrong. Guess, I'm not but I still can't get it to get up. It makes my shot powerful but it always stays to the ground.

Try to "chip" the ball, DON'T try to scoop it as you would with a normal cross with the weaker leg. It helps to practice with an underinflated ball, as it is much much easier to reverse cross with, as you can get your foot underneath it easier and it weighs less. As you improve, you can try with a heavier ball.

Can doing this injure you? And what are suggestions on taking penalties crosslegged? I believe it was Harry Kewl (?) I saw take a cross legged penalty that went top corner, although I may be wrong.

yeah Harry Kewell did it and everyoe was applausing. Whenever id o it it rolls on the fround or 10 cm in the air only. Do u need long legs to do it?

It shouldn't injure you. That would be strange. And the purpose of rabonas is crossing, not pks, but I guess you can. However, it is performed easier crossing because of the wider angle.

Nope. Maradona was the primary person to use the rabona. And he wasn't tall so to speak. But I can see as how longer legs would help. But I'm sure your legs are long enough.

yeah i know, but when c Maradona do it, he never does it in the air, it just boounces on the ground.

?? Haven't you seen all the rabona shots Maradona took while in Napoli? How about his great rabona assists on the National Teams? Like the one where he fooled a defender with a stepover, turned around, and had a wonderful rabona cross which resulted in a goal. I don't know what you mean by rabona that bounced on the ground. But all the rabonas I have seen him do (dozens so to speak) were performed at normal cross height - except a few SHOTS which were around a foot off the ground, of which he employed several in his early years in Argentina.

oh yeah i rememeber that one, i thought it was a normal cross cos he does it so qucikly its not funny. Well soembody needs to tell us how to do the Rabona cross properly.

Cheers 21. ODP tryouts are coming up soon enough, need to master some new tricks.
i tried doing it and its not very difficult. it helps if u run up to the ball and do the rabona as the momentum would help to lift the ball. also try to hit it hard at the part of the ball whereby it touches the ground.
you might injure yourself by doing it so be careful. you might hit your toes on the ground or squash your !@#$% in the process.
p.s. can anyone repost the harry kewell clip thanks.
cheers =)

That kewell rabona is amazing. I can do it pretty well as a toe poke but I am going to try and do it like that Kewekk one now.
i m a right footer n when u execute rabona, do u bend the left knee or u keep it straight?
JC-14
Jul 19 2006, 03:37 PM
I bend it a little but it goes natural. Place your left foot (if you're right) a little bit before the ball. Hit it with the toe if you want to shoot it or pass it over the ground. Chip it if you want it to go high.

Well honestly I used to be mesmerised by this kick and used to keep on practicing it.I tried all the different methods and the toe poke one worked best and now i can wham it off for miles.

P.S. practice a hell lot!
