I cant find any place in Montreal that sells the following shinguards :
Nike Vapor Lite Shinguard
NIKE VAPOR LITE SHINGUARDSi was wondering if they are any good.
I play midfield/def, so i need some protection. As much as my full protection shinguards are still lite, i still feel that it affects my dribbling .
What do you guys think ?

I don't like shin pads, I am now using the ones with no ankles and I have found them much better. Just use some tape and they will be there for the whole game. They are much lighter and I feel the ankle ones limit your movement. The vapor ones look really light and look cool. They come with sleeves which cover the shin pads so they are really good. I would buy them!! not that much either!!

I disagree, no matter how much tape u have on them they will still move around unlike shinpads with ankle guards. I have had my shin pads for 4 years and I still use them. They were cheap $10 Sondico ones, but they wear very well. My little brother has shinpads without ankle guards and I borrowed them once to see what they were like. I had to put copious amounts of tape on them and they still moved too much for my liking. They were expensive adidas ones as well which just goes to show.....
by the way the vapour shinpads look horrible and if you are looking for a good design in a shinpad adidas has a much better range.

Well I disagree, I will take a picture of my shin pads and put them on after.

so when you wear these..how do you protect the area right under these guards
because the normal shinguards that come w/ ankle guards extend all the way down towards the ankle.
im sure you can wear detachable ankle guards ..what else?

Its true that the Vapor guards dont tcovers the ankles, but that is the point of it. I noticed that the skill players & Strikers use these kind of pads to free up the ankles, so that it could help their skillful dribbling.
That is also probably, like C.Ronaldo, they use that Elastoplast band. As much it helps to hold the shingards to slide, it gives a little protection at the ankle area.
What do you guys think, am i on the right track with that assumption ?

who knows..what..i hate assuming stuff..but thats all we can do right?
its a good assumption, none the less
im a fast player and its awesome that theres stuff like Vapor Lite Guards out there..I just hate sometimes thinking of the worst happening to my ankles..

If your good enough they won't catch you. They allow you to be free and more movement. If someone comes in with a really hard tackle how much do you think ankle guards will protect. I think there more there for stability.

If they wanted to hurt you, nothing will protect your legs
unless you put on some armour that knights wore

If you're good enough, u'll get killed
I remember Ronaldinho last season, I cant remember which game in particular, but in this one he just got hacked and chopped the whole time. He just stopped n said 'damn man dont.' He was annoyed.
Skillfull players get hurt more bud lol

Well, the longer you hold on to the ball, the more you're going to get hacked. The ankle guards will protect from some of that, but I just hate having my ankles restricted, and I am willing to take the risk of wearing smaller shinguards.

if your injured..what good is it going to do watching from the sidelines?

Smaller pads offer less protection yes, but it's everyone to their own. Players get injured with big and small pads lol. Getting injured is just unlucky.

I have Nike Vapor Lite's, but use them for futsal... Once put on, you forget about them... They have an incredible fit, and their weight is just as all other "Vapor" labelled products. The protection given is nice, however, they may not be breathable enough. If playing outdoors, the ankle-free one I'd suggest is Nike Delta Lite.

I'm looking for a pair of shinpads that are small and easy to come off like w/ no straps. Cuz shinpads are starting to bother me. And I'd play without them if I was allowed.

yea, they are a bit small. I like decent sized ones with ankle guards. I don't really think that you can move faster or better if you don't have ankle guards but anyway...

Depending on the type of footwear, but believe me it does have an effect. Playing in Vapors with ankle guards on is a misunderstanding, not only you look funny but the whole idea of Vapor shoe which is to keep your foot and the ball as close as possible is ruined. Same concerns F50's and Averio. Some of my friends who used to wear Nike Air Maximus have removed just the inside layer of foam in their ankle guards, and while not being too exposed to tackles (when tackled, it's usually the outer side of the ankle that suffer) their clearance has improved a bit. In futsal I haven't seen one player wearing ankle guards, whereas my whole team wears Vapor Lite's. Deltas are a bit small, if you can afford sth at $40 then check Molten Cobra guards or Nike Contour BPS.
