Chelsea FC have made a cautious start to their campaign with a 1-0 home win against RSC Anderlecht, followed by a scoreless draw at Anfield against holders Liverpool FC. But they will be aware of the improvement of newcomers Real Betis Balompié, who overcame opening-day nerves in a 2-1 home defeat by Liverpool, to win at Anderlecht to keep the group wide open.

So far Chelsea havent looked convincing in the CL with a 1-0 and a 0-0.

But looking at their recent performances I expect them to have a good win over Betis. I am going for a 3-1 win to Chelsea.
rafa_b
Chelsea should win this one, but being away from home might suit Betis. They have lots of fast attackers and that might help them on the counter attack were spaces will be more apparent. Should be a 1 - 0 for Chelsea though
ManCitySpark
This should be a 3-0 win I reckon, Chelsea forwards to shine as well as Betis, but I doubt Betis will be able to break the defense. I really think Lampard is going to have a great game this, along with Drogba. Although I would prefer a Crespo start to the game!
46 Miles
I think this game will end in a draw or Chelase just to nick it...

That said with Chelsea's last few results I wont be shocked if Chelsea win 3-0!
ffl19
I will be satisfied if Betis can put up a good challenge for Chelsea. Not expecting a win or a draw. Just want a good game. Maybe score a goal, that would be great. I expect a 2-1 defeat, but a good game after all. We can surprise Chelsea with our fast attack force. And I am glad Serra Ferrer is a fearless coach, he is not afraid to take one of Betis´ "stars" off the game and try something new. Who knows, anything different from a defeat would be a surprise, but hey, surprises happen.
energy41
Betis is a good team but vs Chelsea it should be too tough to get points.
i expect an unexciting match and a 1-0 win for Chelsea.
Barca13
Tough match for the spaniards ... i hope they win in Chelsea , but i think it will be 99 % impossible
Donny
I think chelsea will lose this one
i dont know y , but my mind is saying that chelsea will lose. And ofcourse my heart wants them to lose as well smile.gif

will be a classic encounter and a must watch, Chelsea has been stuttering in the CL but i think they can nick this one by 1-0 or 2-1
fanatic
will be a classic encounter with great attacking prowess, Chelsea has been stutering in the CL but will stil nick by 1-0
ROGA
Chelsea will not keep a clean sheet, but I have a hard time thinking Betis will either....

I think we will see a 3-2 score line, or a 2-3.... I hope it is 2-3!!!

Would be great if we can see Chelsea at 3rd place in the group after this match whistling.gif ... Maybe that would be enough to bring you Chelsea fans back down to earth.... but I doubt it laugh.gif

Seriously, I think we will see 5 goals in this match, and as a fan of La liga, I hope to see 3 of them against Chelsea.....

anyone have any streams

Hopefully Joaquin shows Chealsea what they missed out (and will miss cos hi ain't going there) In the top of his game no one can stop him.

Betis starting today with

Players :
13 Antonio Doblas
27 J. Melli
4 J. "Juanito"
5 David Rivas
19 Óscar López
7 Fernando Varela
15 M. Lozano
18 Alberto Rivera
24 L. Schmidt "Edú"
12 Ricardo Oliveira
17 Joaquín Sánchez

Good young power attacking force on the right with Melli, secure midfield with Varela and Lozano and 3 fast players in the front : Edu, Joaquin and Oliveira. I reckon we should´ve start with Assuncao, because he has a powerfull freekick that could be helpful, but I am guessing Serra Ferrer is being more careful today.
sach234
Cudicini gets a start !! gr8 to see him in action clapping.gif

Cant figure out why Ferreira is still not playing though.

Starting Lineup :

--------------------Cudicini-------------------

Gallas------- Terry----- Carvalho-----Del Horno

-----Essien---------Makalele------------Lampard

Wright-Phillips------- Drogba------------J. Cole

Subs:
Cech, Diarra, Geremi, Gudjohnsen, Crespo, Ferreira, Huth.

Good to see Diarra on the bench too. Hopefully he gets a look in clapping.gif

Would like to see Diarra , Huth and Crespo off the bench
Gaucho10
Tactic in this game so far: play the ball to Horno, hit a long ball to Drogba. I m sure they dont that 5 times already.

Betis for a while really had Chelsea sweating

Chelsea have played well and its def not the only way they are playing.

Great chance to Drogba and he misses an open net from 5yards out and the ball goes for a throw in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats the reason i still doubt him misses some sitters.
Gaucho10
^^SWP has been incredible, hes got to be one of the best in the world at getting to the goal line
Barca13
1 - 0 Drogba scores
Gaucho10
Good goal, Essien with assist, see finally i am being proved right about Drogba.

SWP has been good but Essien has been EXCEPTIONAL !!!!!!!

Great pass both on the drogba chance to free SWP and then on the goal too good interception and then made a great reverse pass to Drogba to set up the goal.

Cool finish from Drogba this time
Gaucho10
omg what the hell was that, talk about lucky chelsea
Barca13
Chelsea 2 - 0 Carvalho scores
ffl19
great Doblas thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
Heck, not playing well. I expect at least a decent second half.
Pie'N'Bovril
3-0

f*ck! come on, score at least one so it doesn´t look that bad.
Gaucho10
4-0, Crespo

Wright phillips is Tearing up the pitch!! Great Cross
Barca13
No penalty for Betis
Gaucho10
Diarra?, what the hell? When did he sign?
InTheFade
Not saying this because i dont like essien, but whenever robben has a shot and there are players around you always flame him, well essien did the same today, there was crespo to the left and euider to the right, and he jsut had a ping himself and it went way over the bar.

But other than that it was a great game for us, essien played great again, SWP was awesome, good to see carvalho on the score sheet, and crespo too thumbsup.gif But i rekon we should have won at least 5-0 if essien had of passed when he had his blazing shot and if drogba had of conveted early in the match, quite and easy chance he missed, but it was a great game anyhow clapping.gif

What an imperious performance of Chelsea's, an very effective and efficient performance, they still have a gear or two left for the United and more competent performers, but this performance was extraordinary. A clean sheet is a huge bonus.
ffl19
one word : CRAP thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
But then again, I was not expecting more than a slightly good performance. Not even that!!!!
We already knew that UEFA Cup could be great for us already!!! For a team that never had made it into Europe, it is a huge thing.
GoonerMarc
Is it true that Essien went in two footed and faked a injury afterwards yet again?

Wow betis got owned. Sucks but well, it happens, Chelsea are a good team.

You were winning 4-0 at the time, and Essien deserved it, he played INCREDIBLY, reading and intercepting so many passes, and putting so much pressure, that they often mis-passed, and could take on Joaquin farely comfortably too. He's worth the money, but I still don't like how much money you guys spend but oh well. Best performance I've seen in a while from Chelsea, though, as good as the finishing was, it was annoying that the first 2 goals were due to Betis' mistakes.

If you keep this up, you can break Arsenal's record, and you can win all 4 cups. Your defence is unstoppable, and takes all the pressure off the midfielders+strikers, so they get plenty of the ball and carve out enough chances, usually enough to win the game.

Lampard has hit pretty good form, and what's even scarier, is that you've managed to plug in an incredible attack-minded left back, Del Horno, who also strengthens the aerial ability in Chelsea, brought in a solid and incredible mid-fielder, Essien, and that Drogba is starting to actually become v useful, so a lot of your weaknesses are disappearing. You can play wonderful and attacking football, like the 2nd half against Bolton, but I think it's Mourinho's tactics sometimes holding you back, it seems when he chooses to, he can make Chelsea whip another team, which I hope is complete crap, but I just get that feeling. Sucks for me =(
rafa_b
SWP cross for Crespo was absolutely out of this world. That is easily the best goal of the season so far. The ball went from the half way line to the back of the net in 4 touches from when Lampard recieved the ball. I'll have to add though that Betis were nowhere to be seen and had virtually given in at this stage but still it was class.

Sporting Leão
What a great performance by Chelsea.
ManCitySpark
Nobody talking about Cole's goal, I thought that was pure class finishing from the England man. Also, the SWP cross, my oh my, that was absolutely incredible cross, it was inch perfect, hey what the hell, it was centimeter perfect. Wow. Class.
Andrés ©
yes that last goal was AMAZING.
Sporting Leão
All the goals were great teamplays, except Carvalhos that was sloppy but he did a good job to attack the net anticipated rebounds, they all count anyways. Chelsea plays really great as a team I back them to Lift the cup in Paris this spring.
cashbroker
Well, what can I say? Betis got owned. BIG TIME. NAH, they weren't bad in the first 45, but fell apart in the second. And CArvalho's goal? Sloppy as hell and and extremely bad luck for the BETIS keeper sad.gif Betis were simply outplayed today, but I think they can do better. Not completly horrible considering it's their first time on the big stage.

I couldn't see this match, I watched AC MIlan-PSV smile.gif But can anyone tell me if Robben is still injured or something, because when he was with the Holland team he said it was nothing serious and now he is not even on the sub bench sad.gif

Well i personally dont think he is injured but its sort of precautionary measure + There are other players in very good form.
SWP and Joe Cole are playing very well so why change a winning combination?

Duff and Robben will get their chances but I think even with slight injuries they wont be risked as Joe Cole and SWP are just as good.

I think it was a little knock Robben picked up, and Jose did not want to risk him much, but Damien is out for a month I hear.
Nando.
Essien was immense yesterday, he really showed why he was one of the most coveted players during the summer. The guy combines the power of Makelele with great passing. Certainly one to look out for.

Agreed thumbsup.gif , didn't watch the match but saw the highlights moment away and to my disbelief, he created all of the goals, a player to watch out for in the future and a good replacement for Makhalele
