I'll be honest, this idea is taken from a few of the other English sub-forums but I think it will help get a bit more interest as it gets a bit lonely in here from time to time. Plus a few topics recently have drifted into general chit chat, so I think we should have a thread where we can all just chat.

Basically this thread is welcome to everyone, where we can discuss anything to do with Spurs or anything you just want to share with the members of SP.

I'll start with a few topics that I think are worth mentioning...

Ex. Spur Speedy Carr has retired from International football. Personally I couldn't believe his decision as he's only 29 and if i were a pro I'd want to play for my country for as long as I possibly can.
But on a brighter note, it means Stephen Kelly is likely to become first choice right-back for Ireland now, which will only be good for him and Spurs as he will be gaining vital experience at International level. smile.gif

QUOTE
Republic of Ireland defender Stephen Carr has announced his international retirement.

The Newcastle ace believes the time is right to quit the international scene after Ireland's failure to qualify for next summer's World Cup finals.

Carr is the third player to quit Ireland following the decisions by Roy Keane and Kenny Cunningham to announce their international retirements.

The full back's decision comes as something of a surprise as he is still only 29 and has only won 39 caps for his country.

"I have made my decision, and there is no going back for me now," Carr told Newcastle's official website.

"I just feel the time is right to call it a day with Ireland. It was disappointing for the squad, the manager, and the whole country that we didn't qualify for the World Cup.

"I would have loved to have represented my country in Germany next summer and maybe called it quits after that, but it wasn't to be.

"Failing to qualify for the World Cup was a huge disappointment for me personally. I missed the last World Cup because of injury, and this time we ended up finishing fourth in the group so we didn't go through.

"I think it's time for me to stand aside now, and let some of the younger lads coming through have the opportunity to play for Ireland.

"I'll be 34 the next time the World Cup comes around and at that stage of my career I wouldn't feel as though I could do myself or Ireland justice in the competition should we get through.

"This has been a tough decision for me to make, but I have no doubt it is the correct one for everyone concerned."

More news this week...

Daniel Levy admits that moving to the new 70,000 Olympic stadium, after it has been used for the Olympics in 2012, could be a possibility.

This would mean that we would be reverting to East London (Stratford) which could cause a bit of an up-roar amongst many fans but than again, i'd be happy if we moved to France for a 70,000 seater stadium. wink.gif

QUOTE
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has admitted the club could be interested in moving into the Olympic Stadium after it has been used for the 2012 London Games.

Spurs have considered leaving White Hart Lane in a bid to keep pace with the all the top clubs in Europe.

With a 70,000-plus stadium to be built in Stratford, east London for the Olympics it leaves open the possibility that the ground could be used for football after the Olympics.

Levy says that Spurs would consider moving into the stadium if it becomes available for football.

"That is a possibility," Levy told the Times. "At the moment it is going to be used for athletics.

"If that changes, then I am sure they will come and talk to us. There are only one or two clubs who could occupy it.

"We have the fourth largest supporter base of any English club and that us an independent assessment. And we are one of the few clubs that have sold every single seat this season.

"Chelsea had empty seats in the Champions League. I can tell you now that, if we were playing in Europe, I don't care who it would be against, this stadium would be full. The supporter base is not just large, it is very loyal."

Levy is such a legend, he has done only good things for this football club. Interesting to read that we have the 4th largest fan base in the country, i had no idea that was the case. Any ideas who are ahead of us in that respect?

I am assuming as follows:

1) Man Utd.
2) Arsenal
3) Liverpool

Not sure though.

I am not keen on moving to Stretford. I know i dont get to go and see Spurs that often cos i live miles away, but the move is even further away from me. Will the fanbase remain loyal after a move like this??? I am not so sure, just look what happened to Wimbledon....

As for the Carr story, Kelly should already be the Republics no. 1, he is hugely underrated.

Brian.
Spurs Lodge, and there was me thinking that the news of the world had uncovered that spurs is run by the Masons laugh.gif

Harry Hotspur
Yeah I'd agree with them 3 clubs being more popular than us. There's probably one or two also ahead of us, but we are definitely one of the most recognised English clubs around the world.

I don't think moving to Stratford will have the same effect that happened with Wimbledon as its not the same distance that we would be moving too. But its moving out of North London which could cause an upset amongst many fans but like I say moving to a 70,000 seater stadium shouldn't attract toom many arguments from fans.

Jurgen the German
Yeah Stratford's not far from Tottenham. It would have been nice to keep it in Tottenham though 'cos it has even worse crime and unemployment than Stratford and [possibly though I don't know] brings income and jobs to the area.
Harry Hotspur
Who do we think has been the most influential summer siging so far?

Also, who do you think will prove to have been the best investment come the end of the season?

Personally I think Lee has been the best so far. He's giving us a much needed attacking threat from the left hand side that Reid wasn't really giving us.

He's not the best defensively, but he gives us so much going forward that im suprised he isn't at a ''bigger'' club!

I don't understand why he isn't actually a right-back? He's all right-footed, which seems a bit odd for him playing left back all the time!

Overall, I think Davids will prove to be our best signing. As long as he stays free from injury, his experience will be vital to us achieving a european place come the end of the season.

Also, the partnership down the left with him and Lee, in my opinion could become one of the best combinations/ partnerships in the premiership.

Although, the likes of lennon, Stalteri cand Jenas have all played their part, I think these two have or will be the best signings for us. smile.gif
hotspurts
Influential you ask?

Gotta be Davids, remember the buzz in the air when he was close to signing, all the players being interviewed stating how excited they are to have the chance to play alongside the pitbull. We seem much tighter and dominating in the midfield (obviously not simply because of him, Carrick's done brilliantly in the centre) and we're much stronger going forward.

I think the best investment is a hard one, the two top investments are Lee and Lennon.

Lennon has such great potential. He's got youth, pace, flair, control, stamina etc... When that kid gets experience under his belt he'll be a standout.

Lee is such a versatile player and, as the EPL is probably the fastest league in the world, this is great for us. He can be pressing in attack, setting up goals, making dangerous runs etc and can ran back and defend quite strongly. He's got an impressive work and fitness rate. If he can stay injury free he'll do wonders.

EDIT: Wanted to find out how much game time Lennon got at Leeds and found this site: http://www.leedsfans.org.uk/leeds/players/750.html

The comments people left thinking Aaron Lennon would read them are hilarious laugh.gif

I think Newcastle would prob be up there with a bigger fan base than ye. They fill 52,000 seater stadium every week, and look what they got to support...Imagine if they had an exciting young team. Beyond Owen, Given, Emre and Luque (maybe nzogbia) there is nothing to get excited about at up there.

Spurs on the other hand have about that many midifelders alone to get excited about, plus Lee, Defoe, Keane (when he comes on), Robinson, Kelly (who by the way will still have Finnan ahead of him for Ireland) and a few others im forgetting
MrBrightside
YE id say fan base-wise were pushing 4th/5th, but its hard to say when Man City are getting 45,000 fans in the Blue-Camp. Also Leeds where big before their demise, and Chelsea are evergrowing.
The topic is misleading though i thought it was about the new spurs training ground being proposed in enfield, thats really close to my house, infact they are talking to schools my friends go to about community schemes. If you get the chance to see the plans for this, it looks great.
Harry Hotspur
See I think we are a pretty well recognised club across the world but that is only due to our illustrious history.

Yeah teams like City and Newcastle do have bigger grounds but that doesn't really shape a club.
I think we have one of the best squads in the Prem by far, but imagine how big a club we would be if we did have a 50,000+ stadium! We'd easily be compared to the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.
All we need to do in the nest few seasons, is qualify for Europe regularly and hopefully win an FA Cup.

There's a new Training Ground being proposed?
The one in Chigwell is still relatively new. I remeber whe it was unveiled and we had Tony Blair open it. It was the same year he was elected 96/97 season I believe.

It'd be great if you could find some info on this, as I really haven't heard anything about it.
Midos Touch
The training ground stuff is news to me too. Not sure if i would believe that cos i always thought the chigwell one was one of the better ones in the premiership.

Most influential signing???? LEE!!!! - that guy rocks. He gives us that bit of flair the team was lacking.

We are delighted to announce that we will host the first leg of England's European U21 Championship play-off against France at the Lane on Friday November 11.

It means Michael Dawson, Aaron Lennon, Tom Huddlestone and Calum Davenport (on loan at Norwich) - all named in the last England U21 squad - will have the chance of playing for a place in next summer's finals on home soil. Dean Marney, also on loan at Norwich and Wayne Routledge, if fit, might also come into the frame.

The first leg at the Lane will kick-off at 7.30pm with the return the following Tuesday, November 15, at the Stade Marcel Picot in Nancy. The second leg kicks-off at 8pm UK time.

The prospect of turning out for England at Spurs is certainly an exciting one for defender Michael.

“Playing for the Under-21s has been one of the highlights of a great year for me," said 'Daws', 11 U21 caps to his name.

"Since joining Spurs in January I have enjoyed every minute of my football and playing at such a level with a high-quality team has improved my game tremendously.

“The chance to play for England at White Hart Lane is something very special for me. There is a strong Spurs presence in the U21 squad and I know that although Wayne Routledge is recovering from injury, Aaron, Calum and Tom are just as eager as me to get onto the pitch and show the fans what we can do for our country.”

England coach and ex-Spur Peter Taylor said: "These will be two fantastic matches and I'm delighted to be playing the home leg at White Hart Lane. Obviously it's a stadium I know well from my playing days with Tottenham, and is a superb venue for a game of this importance. Spurs are very well represented in the Under-21s, with Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon, Wayne Routledge and Calum Davenport now all established members of the squad, and I'm looking forward to a fantastic atmosphere on the night.

Hopefully, I'll be there to cheer on the Tottenham contingent. clapping.gif

I think this is the first time our ground has been used for an International since England played Holland and MVB scored an absolute screamer!!!!!!!!!!
Although its only an Under-21 game its still nice to see our great stadium being recognised as one of the best around in England. smile.gif And yet were still looking to find a new stadium. wink.gif Than again, I wouldn't say no to a 70,000 seater stadium but the Lane will always be ''home''.

Also, Roma are apparently trying so seek a higher price for us to sign Mido. At first they said that there was clause in his contract that would see him join us for about £2/3million but now they're asking for atleast £4million. Im sure we will still buy him as money seems to be now object for us in recent times but with all this money were spending and not a signifcant amount coming in, does make you wonder where its all coming from and more importantly, what happens when it all runs out?

Hmm, I wonder what role Daniel Levy plays in this little episode? I feel he needs a suitable nickname rolleyes.gif

Do any of you guys visit the spurs communtiy site regularly?

Just curious really. I only really visit there to take a look of the articles they produce. They are pretty top notch. I read a pretty funny one earlier, it's called, ''Dear Martin''. Its like a letter that some fella wrote to Martin Jol about how he feels about Spurs at this moment in time. thumbsup.gif

Regarding funds - we did get a fair amount back over the summer. Don't forget Kanoute went and then Arnesen - we dont even know how much we got for him. It could be a staggering amount.

Any idea if fees gained for coaching staff etc. counts as money recouped from transfers??? I know the amounts we are talking about with frank are exceptional, but most clubs have some kind of compensation.

I wouldnt mind heading off to WHL for the U21. Havent been down to the Lane in a while. Two decent teams playing too.

Also, Mido's touch, I heard a figure of around £8million was agreed for Arnesen! Surely that can't be right? I'd say £4/5million max.

Plus, got my England Under-21 tickets earlier. £10 for an adult, pretty cheap IMO. Can't wait for the game. I also inquired about getting tickets for West Ham but as I half expected they were: SOLD OUT!

I found this on spurs odyssey, about building a new training ground.

QUOTE
Spurs’ announcement this week that they had applied for planning permission to build a new training facility and academy at Myddelton House, Bulls Cross, Enfield brings back fond memories for this writer.

If the application is successful, then Spurs will be making a move nearer a spiritual home, because they used to train at Cheshunt, about two and a half miles north of Myddelton House, just up the A10.

Bearing in mind the fact that Spurs trained at Cheshunt in the hey-day of the sixties and seventies, even into the eighties, then you can understand why I am excited at the prospect of my beloved club training almost next to the A10 again. Mind you, in Bill Nicholson’s day, you could attend training sessions and hear Bill’s assistant Eddie Bailey effing and blinding at the stars that graced the Lilywhite shirt, if they didn’t perform as they should! Nowadays of course, training sessions are closed to the public.

Once upon a time countless Spurs stars lived in the Cheshunt and Broxbourne area. In fact, Ossie Ardiles and Pat Jennings to name but two, still have family homes in the vicinity. Can we look forward to Hertfordshire being graced by future big name players from the mighty Spurs?

Myddelton House just lies in the Enfield, Middlesex area, and is near the junction of the M25 and A10. It is a busy area and certainly not as cosy as Chigwell, where Spurs Lodge is situated.

Spurs are already familiar with the venue, as their schoolboys have played there for quite a while. The club must be hoping that this scheme can go through smoothly, unlike the Abridge attempt a couple of years ago.

Myddelton House is named after Sir Hugh Myddelton, who designed the famous New River, which runs from the top of the Lea Valley between Hertford and Ware. I have to report that it ends in the Borough of Islington and that there is a statue of Myddelton at the junction of Essex Road and Upper Street, which, sadly, is gooner territory. Maybe we’ll have a chance to spill something in the water as it runs past the new Spurs training facility!

Tottenham captain Ledley King is looking for a new contract which will tie him to the club for the long-term.

King believes that Spurs are currently heading in the right direction and, although he is currently tied to White Hart Lane until 2008, he says that he would like to pledge his future for longer.

The 24-year-old is thought to be eager to negotiate new terms in order that his wages can be brought into line with top earners such as Edgar Davids.

"It's between my agent and the club," he said. "I am just letting them get on with it and concentrating on my football. I've always said that if we are going in the right direction, I haven't got a problem.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol has hinted that he could make a move for Chelsea ace Arjen Robben.

Robben's future at Chelsea has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks after a reported row with Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is thought to be unhappy with Robben's constant fitness problems and is reportedly willing to part ways with the former PSV Eindhoven star.

Jol is a big admirer of his Dutch compatriot and admitted he would be interested in signing the winger if he was available.

"I have said that if there are more problems surrounding Robben I'll make a mega bid for him," Jol told Dutch website Football Zone.

"Spurs have a lot of quality. Financially we're very healthy, too.

"We've money to spend and that's why we can bring in expensive players."

Sporting Director Damien Comolli has thanked the co-operation of the Egyptian FA after reaching agreement for Mido to be available for our games against Manchester City and Liverpool prior to the start of the African Nations Cup.

Egypt host what is now a significant tournament comprising 16 teams in four groups kicking-off with Egypt’s opener against Libya on January 20 through to the final on February 10.

FIFA rules require that players are released by their clubs two weeks before the tournament starts but at a meeting between Damien and Mr Zaher, President of the Egyptian FA, agreement was reached allowing Mido to remain in the UK for our Premiership clash at Manchester City on January 4 before flying out for Egypt’s friendly against Nigeria on January 9 and then returning for our trip to Anfield on January 14.

Mido will then fly back to Egypt for the duration of the tournament — he could be back with us after Egypt’s last group game on January 28, the quarter-finals on February 3/4, semi-finals on February 7, third/fourth place play-off on February 9 or final on February 10.

“We are appreciative of the understanding of the Egyptian FA,” said Damien. “They have taken into account both the interests of the players and our Club. There was an excellent spirit of co-operation.”

Egypt face a tough-looking group in Cairo as they take on the Ivory Coast — home of Chelsea’s Didier Drogba and Arsenal’s Kolo Toure and a team that beat them in recent World Cup qualifiers, Noureddine Naybet’s Morocco and Libya. They need to finish in the top two of the group to progress.

Mido will be available for the games against City and Liverpool. Good news definitely. Still though in the other games that he will miss means that Rasiak will get his chance and to be honest im looking forward to seeing him getting a few games. He showed a few nice touches in the game at Boro and we all know from his Derby days that there is something there, so who knows he might set the world alight and maybe provide some stiff competition for Mido when he gets back. beer.gif

As a member you get a 10 day advance to buy tickets but your only allowed 1 for yourself. Season Ticket holders can purchase 1 guest ticket 1 day before the ticket office opens to public.

I've been a member or Season Ticket holder for a while now but I remember it being quite tough to get tickets to popular games without being a member at least.

Monday night games were always easiest to get tickets for, if you want to see any London Derby game you wont get a chance unless your a member.

I've found the worst seats to be Paxton (cos the atmosphere is nothing compared to park lane!), or East (not shelf) with at least one of the pillers in the way! (you get a discount for restricted view thou!) why they didn't remove the pillars on east same as west ill never know.

Best seats in the house (for watching, not atmosphere) West side upper on the half way line. Only been there once, my sister won 4 VIP tickets, we got a 5 course meal with open bar, tour round the ground hosted by Martin Peters (ex spurs and '66 world cup final scorer), got to meet Ledley King, Eric Edman, Atouba and the King Martin Jol! Spurs won that day too, 5 - 2 against Everton.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol has ruled himself out of replacing Guus Hiddink, should he leave PSV Eindhoven this summer.

Hiddink, who also manages Australia, has been linked as a possible successor to Sven Goran Eriksson in charge of England.

However, Jol has distanced himself from the possible vacancy, stating he is fully focused on Spurs.

"Hiddink is still there, but it is always the same if someone leaves a club like Ajax, Feyenoord or PSV, they all link coaches with Dutch clubs," said Jol.

"Feyenoord is a big club but in Holland they think of Spurs as a big club. Feyenoord have 50,000 fans on average, PSV is the same. They are a Champions League club.

"I would not be interested in the job. I am focused on this club. This is my first club as a manager and I love this club.

"My plan is to stay here and hopefully improve our football and get the results. Then in the next couple of years we can be as good as the top four clubs in England.''

It's good to see that loyalty does still exist in the game.

United signed a new shirt deal today but not with ''Mansion''. Apparently they are still looking for a Premiership club to have them as their shirt sponsors, could we be the club? I think I read somewhere speculating about them and us coming together. Might have been vitalfootball, not sure.

Our contract with Thomson ends after this season and we've been in talks with LG for months and nothing has been signed so who knows?

Apparently this mansion company are top dogs any shirt deal signed with them would be worth far more than any deal with LG. In fact their deal with United would have been the largest in history, apparently.

I'm guessing they may not invest as much money with us as they would have done with United but if we could get them their money would go along way for our club. Given that we're after a new training ground and the possibility of a new stadium not even mentioning new players. We get them and I think that would be massive for us!

I'll miss Thomson, while we havent had much success with that logo, it's the one logo i actually like the look of.

I knew you'd be the one to come on and do it. laugh.gif I was looking at it last night with only a few posts left needed and I figured that it'll most likely be you who's first on to push us over the mark. bigsmile.gif

I'm not really a fan of Thomson, not because of the red issue, more because it just looks stupid with the smile thing above the writing. dry.gif

Yeah, the logo is not great indeed but just look on these kits here .
The Spurs kits aren't ugly at least and don't have that logo only, I quite like the current kits.
Shame though on the people who created those ugly kits whistling.gif .

Let us blame it on Diadora tongue.gif , glad we have Kappa.

Don't forget we have Puma from next season, better than Kappa IMO. Much smarter and it won't be those horrid skin tight shirts anymore. beer.gif

Apart from the tight shirts, Kappa hasn't actually been too bad for us. I mean the rest of the gear they've provided, i.e the training gear and matchday shirts, have been quite smart looking. I have the white polo shirt with the blue line going down the left side and it's quite a nice shirt.

Although Puma will still be better IMO.
