Luton 1-1 Plymouth

Substitute Bojan Djordjic snatched a late equaliser for Plymouth to deny promotion-seeking Luton all three points at Kenilworth Road.

Warren Feeney had twice gone close before he fired Luton ahead, converting Carlos Edwards' pinpoint cross.

Steve Howard missed a chance to double Luton's lead with a weak header from six yards, and they paid the price.

From out of the blue, Matt Derbyshire crossed to the far post for Djordjic to head home two minutes from time.

Plymouth boss Tony Pulis:
"People say it's a great job with the substitutions, but you do it as much in hope as anything else.

"We wanted Matty Derbyshire to go on and stretch them and that's what he did, but Nick Chadwick also caused them problems when he came on.

"As for Bojan Djordjic, I didn't even know he could head a ball."

I was personally pretty happy with this result, I would take a point at anywhere we travel to this season. Luton aren't a bad side, they've progressed alot in the two years since they were promoted to the Championship behind champions Plymouth, and are now real play-off contenders. It's good to see Matty Derbyshire getting a good runaround and the side is seemingly looking more and more composed.

My rating of Tony Pulis has also improved recently, and his ability to get the team scrapping for every point could prove vital this season. And this quote had me in stitches:

Hey Will, I've been thinking about visiting Home Park for a while now (Best standard of footy around here), I'll probably drag ~Ferrari~ along to a Wolves match there or something. Anyways have you got any advice on the best stand to watch the match from, is the food there any good, how far is it from Plymouth City Center (about the only part of Plymouth I know my way around) etc ?

Ah good man, you know it makes sense rolleyes.gif

The best stand to sit in for a neutral is the Mayflower Stand, I usuallly sit in the Barn Park Corner of the Mayflower (blocks 16/17 on the map^) right next to the away fans for a good atmosphere. Inside the ground you can get beers, food and soft drinks from the internal stalls, and they're not too bad but quite pricy as you'd expect. There's a couple of dodgy burger/hotdog stalls outside too, you know the ones - burnt onions and raw beef - but I usually eat in the city centre and then walk through Central Park up to Home Park. It's only about a 20 minute walk so leave anytime before 2 and you'll have plenty of time on even the busiest Saturday game.

The biggest problem is congestion after the game and getting out of the area (particularly by car) can be a real problem (unless you know the good parking spaces and short cuts home tongue.gif). I recommend the train (10 minutes walk to the station) which provides pretty good links to everywhere.

I didn't know that ferrari was from the 'quay aswell! We should meet up for coffee at Christmas. No seriously, how does a meet up for an Argyle game sound to you guys?

Anything else you'd like to know? I'm enjoying being a tour guide biggrin.gif
The 92nd Fish
Thanks for the info Will, I've been meaning to get down to Home Park just to say I've been there and see what Plymouth and the Championship is like, but didn't have a clue where in Plymouth it was, all I can remember from the last time I was in Plymouth was the Barbican and the city center with a massive HMV or Virgin or some music store, anyways it's not important what music store it was.

And yeah ~Ferrari~ is from the 'quay, a good mate of mine, known him for around 6 years and go to 6th form with him, although unfortunantly he does not share my support of Torquay sad.gif Usually when walking Plainmoor (right next to our 6th form), he'll comment on the weekends result with a suitably sarcastic comment. Managed to get him to sign up on SP after much annoying and he's stuck around since, still baffles me why he supports Wolves though...coming from Leicester blink.gif

I'll have to look at Argyle's fixture list for the rest of the season and see what matches they have left at home, try and get down there by the end of the season at least, as long as I can get the time off work and if I can persuade ~Ferrari~ to come even if it's not a Wolves match (He's a stubborn bastard, I still havn't persuaded him to come to Plainmoor to watch a match yet).

Match Preview - Plymouth v Millwall

"Plymouth manager Tony Pulis has no new injury problems ahead of the Home Park clash with Millwall on Sunday.

Pulis has a fully-fit squad to choose from, apart from long-term back injury victim Lee Hodges - but the midfielder is making encouraging progress.

Millwall loan pair Jermaine Wright and Ady Williams are poised to return after being unable to play at Mansfield.

Phil Ifil serves a one-match ban, while centre-back Mark Phillips could require an operation on a hip injury"

1.30pm Kick-Off (Sky Sports 1, 1pm)

_________________________

Big game for the greens, being shown live on SkySports for the first time since their defeat to Everton in last years FA Cup tie. On the back of a run of lossless matches, Argyle will be looking for all 3 points at home to table-propping strugglers Millwall.

I predict a big win for the greens, with the backing of the home fans and a 3-0 win looks to be a possibility.

After the abondonment at half-time debacle during midweek (with Argyle a goal to the good no less!) and good result today is absolutely vital against Ipswich. We have worryingly slipped further into relegation and it's about time that Tony and his men start getting some points on the board. What better way to start than a win away at the Tractor boys on saturday:

Ipswich v Plymouth

Ipswich are sweating over the fitness of striker Nicky Forster (knee) and midfielder Owen Garvan (ankle).

Ian Westlake (ankle) could feature for the first time since August after returning to training but Kevin Horlock (ribs) will be missing again.

Plymouth striker Nick Chadwick may keep his place, after scoring in the game at Leicester that was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch.

Chadwick was recalled in place of Scott Taylor, who dropped down to the bench.
rabbidogg
Ipswich 3-1 Plymouth

Ipswich gained their first win in six games with Darren Currie instrumental.

Roman Larrieu brilliantly tipped a shot from Kevin Horlock round the post, but was beaten from Currie's corner which James McEveley volleyed home.

Another Currie corner produced a second goal soon after as Jason De Vos headed the ball on and Jimmy Juan netted.

Akos Buzsaky curled a lovely free-kick into the top left corner but Larrieu brought down Nicky Forster to concede a penalty which Matt Richards converted.

Oh yes, it definately was, and he seems to be the only player that actually looks competant at this level at the moment. We need to find form soon, we have a better squad than last year and probably a better manager, but somehow we are really struggling. I'm still confident of survival though.

Well it's a new season and i'm full of optimism reagarding the greens under new manager Ian Holloway so i'm re-opening this thread. And here is an interesting first article, from the official website:

ARGYLE'S prestigious pre-season friendly against Real Madrid is on.

IPB Image

Ian Holloway's Pilgrims will face the nine-times European champions on Friday, July 21 at the Franz Fekete Stadion, Kapfenberg, Austria. The game kicks off at 6pm local time.

The stadium is the home of Austrian second division side Kapfenberger SV, and was built in 1987. It holds 12,000.

Real arranged the friendly after Argyle agreed to a request from the Spanish giants to switch next week's Austrian training-camp base from the Schloss Pichlarn hotel in Irdning, which new Madrid manager Fabio Capello has used before and wants to take his new charges to.

The Pilgrims will now be based at the nearby five-star spa resort of Loipersdorf.

Real, who have won the Spanish title on 29 occasions, will be without former England captain David Beckham, who is out injured, while World Cup stars like Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Robinho, Cicinho, Raul, Sergio Ramos, Michel Salgado and Iker Casillas are likely to be give extra time off to recuperate after Germany 2006.

However, the Spaniards still boast a formidable roster.

England and former Leeds United defender Jonathan Woodgate, Denmark's ex-Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen, Italian striker Antonio Cassano and Spanish stars like midfielder Guti, defender Ivan Helguera and ex-Leeds United defender Raul Bravo are among those likely to be on the plane to Austria.

"It will be an education for our lot," admitted Argyle manager Holloway, "even if we play against their young lads, it will be very good.

"It's fantastic. Whatever side they put out, they will have some really good players. It's a fantastic opportunity for my players. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"We'll get amongst them and leave something on one or two of them; that'll be nice for them.

"It'll be something my lads will never forget."

However, Holloway is already playing down the importance of the occasion, focusing instead on the Pilgrims' opening Coca-Cola Championship game against Wolves on August 5.

"Any manager will tell you that pre-season is all about getting everyone fit, working on things," he said.

"I'm really proud of what I've seen so far. We'll take it in our stride. What really matters is Wolves."

Holloway was happy to agree to the switch after sending coach David Kemp out to Austria on Monday to recce the five-star resort at Loipersdorf.

"If it means we can stay in another good quality hotel for free, then that will suit us fine," said Holloway.

The Real fixture means that Argyle's scheduled Saturday friendly against Israeli first division side Maccabi Petah Tikva in Trieben has been cancelled.

Poor Jonathan Woodgate ey, hope he does have an injury free season (as crazy as that sounds) because he is a top defender and certainly one of the best England have to offer.

ARGYLE manager Ian Holloway spoke of his delight after the Pilgrims clinched the signing of Manchester United forward Sylvan Ebanks-Blake for a potential club-record fee.

The 20-year-old Cambridge-born striker has agreed a three-year deal with the Pilgrims to become Holloway's first signing since being appointed Argyle manager two weeks ago.

The initial fee is £200,000, which could rise past the £300,000 the Pilgrims paid for Peter Swan 15 seasons ago, depending on appearances.

"I'm very, very pleased," said Holloway. "He's someone I have been monitoring for some time. I almost had him on loan last year.

"He's got power; he's got pace; he's hungry to make a reputation. He will be a threat to opponents when we have got the ball and when we haven't - so, defenders, 'Watch out!'

"I am as excited about having him here as he is about coming. I looked him in the eyes when I met him and I am convinced he is someone eager to succeed and who, in my opinion, is as honest as the day is long.

"I just want to help him become the player I believe he can be. He isn't there yet, but he can get there.

"I have got no expectations for him. I just want him to enjoy his football. For £200,000, he is an absolute bargain. We have been quoted half a million for players of his age who aren't as good.

"He's a fantastic player and a fantastic young man, which, for me, is more important than all his other attributes."

Ebanks-Blake will link up with his new team-mates for the first time tomorrow, when the Pilgrims play a pre-season friendly at Grays Athletic before flying out for their week-long Austrian training-camp - and a glamour game against Real Madrid.

Also on board Sunday's flight from Stansted will be Portuguese trailist Mauro Almeida, a 24-year-old centre-back who has recently been with Dutch side FC Zwolle.

Argyle chairman Paul Stapleton revealed that Holloway's arrival had acted as the catalyst for the swift signing.

"We have known about Sylvan for a couple of years," said Stapleton, "so, when Ian mentioned him as a high-priority target, everything just clicked.

"We believe we have got for Argyle a player who will quickly establish himself as one of the best strikers in the Coca-Cola Championship."

Stapleton also paid tribute to Manchester United for their part in the deal, which was completed on Friday afternoon.

"We'd like to thank Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill, United's chief executive, for their help, and we hope that this will be the beginning of a good relationship between the two clubs."

Ebanks-Blake arrives at Home Park with a reputation as a striker for the future.

The basic requirements for any striker are blistering pace, good strength, an exquisite touch, and a healthy appetite for scoring goals and Argyle feel they have found a man who possesses all these attributes, and more.

He first came to prominence in 2003, when he helped Manchester United win the FA Youth Cup. A year later, he made his debut for the United first-team in a Carling Cup match against Crewe Alexandra.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said of his first appearance: "Young Blake, even though he only played ten minutes, showed enough to tell us that he is a player of some promise."

It was another year before he turned out for the first-team. Again it was a Carling Cup match, but this time he scored after coming off the bench against Barnet - Argyle's conquerors in the previous round.

A blossoming career was cruelly hampered by a broken leg sustained in a reserve-team match at the end of the 2004-05 season.

Despite this set-back, Ebanks-Blake made a swift recovery and scored a hat-trick on his return to the United reserves.

He also rekindled his formidable partnership with another exciting young prospect at Old Trafford Guiseppe Rossi.

Although his scoring record at youth and reserve team level is superb, Ebanks-Blake was always going to find it hard to establish himself in a Manchester United team that boasts world class strikers, such as Wayne Rooney, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha.

In January this year, Ebanks-Blake joined United feeder-club Royal Antwerp of Belgium in a short-term loan deal.

IPB Image
_____________________________________

I can't say i've seen anything of him before, but all the reports say he could be exactly what Argyle are looking for. A young, quick, talented striker with a great goal-scoring record, he could be the player Argyle have been looking for for years, to bang in the goals in the Championship.

Alex, you might have seen some of him before, what do you reckon? A success at this level? Here's hoping he'll do a Leon Knight-esque job at this level after failing to break through in the Premiership thumbsup.gif
The 92nd Fish
I can't say that I've ever watched him play before, but when he was in the reserves he had a similar sort of goals to games ratio as Giuseppe Rossi before breaking his leg, and if I remember correctly was Youth Player of the year during that season. He definantly has potential which is why I'm suprised we've sold him for only £200,000, I heard rumours about him going to Plymouth but I assumed it was on a season long loan or something like that.

Decent result for Plymouth, a nice morale boosting win and a hattrick for Chadwick will do wonders for his confidence. Almeida played well by all accounts so could earn himself a nice contract (i'd like to see him, for a season at least) and Ebanks-Blake made his first appearance in a green shirt.

Argyle agree Terms with Millwall for Hayles

IPB Image

BARRY HAYLES is poised to become the next new face at Home Park.

Millwall have agreed a price with Argyle for the veteran striker and it is now down to personal terms and a medical.

Argyle manager Ian Holloway said of Hayles:

"We have four young strikers and they would learn so much from someone of the class of Barry Hayles."

Holloway recalled his involvement with Hayles before:

"I brought him into the professinal game when I brought out of non-league at quite a cost but he repaid it very quickly."

If personal terms can be agreed Hyales is likely to fly to Austria to joing his new teams mates at their training camp.
Dingo.

The transfer of Hayles has now been completed and i think its a good signing, he has plenty of experience at this level after being with Fulham and Millwall among other clubs and will always grab you a few goals. Plymouth's attacking options are certainly being bolstered for the better over the last week or so, Ebanks-Blake and now Hayles so its looking good down at Home Park, new manager, new signings, im sure there is a nice feeling around there at the moment.
rabbidogg
Yeah there's a very nice feeling around at the moment, as the official website says, "it is difficult not too look forward to the new season with great optimism and right now, it is great to be Green". I think that says it all.

Hayles is an excellent signing and one that'll prove his worth through passing on experience to the other lads rather than the number of times he hits the back of the net. We started the season with one recognised striker with injury problems (Nick Chadwick) and two pups from the reserves (Reuben Reid & Chris Zebroski). Now we have signed Sylvan Ebabks-Blake and Hayles who have played for Premiership clubs and also Chadwick is back to form and recovered from injury and went to score a hattrick in the pre-season friendly last week. Of the two youngsters, Reuben Reid is the best prospect Argyle have ever had from the youth team i'd say. He's quick, skilful, has a good eye for goal and a real hunger to play and win which could make him a real success at pretty much an level. It'll be good for him to learn from the likes of Hayles. All looking good on the forward front.

FC Gratkorn (Austria) 1 - Argyle 5

AFTER three days of rigorous training, the Pilgrims destroyed FC Gratkorn in their first game of the pre-season tour of Austria.

A brace from Argyle's new number nine Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, plus goals from Reuben Reid, trialist Muhamudu Ebad and Hasney Aljofree helped the Greens to a healthy 5-1 victory.

Their opponents from the Austrian equivalent of the Coca-Cola Championship toiled hard but the Pilgrims were simply too good on the night.

I won't post the whole report but here's another snippet:

Djordjic collected the ball in his own half and set off on a rampaging run down the left; he danced past two players before chipping the ball to Zebroski at the back post, and Tickle sent a first-time side-foot volley back into the middle for Ebanks-Blake.

The former Manchester United youngster introduced himself to the Argyle faithful by flicking the ball into the air and sending a perfectly executed overhead kick into the top corner.

IPB Image

A nice way to open you're account and the season just keeps getting better. Who'd back against an Argyle victory tomorrow night against Real Madrid? I wouldn't. The Madrid (second string?) boys will no doubt underrate the confident Argyle team and with their biggest stars missing I think Argyle could really push them. Holloway will motivate the boys no end and they're intrinsic desire to beat the most successful club on the planet could enough to save any embarrassment. When you look at it that way, it's definitley on the cards.
Dirge
Thats fantastic. I was telling a mate in the pub who is a devout pilrim what a quality signing he is and hes already started to proove me right. Its good to see Bojan Djordjic doing well aswell. Another former nited academy player.
Matty #3
Argyle seem to be going very well in pre-season, which is good to see. I'll never forget the amount of fans they brought up to the SOL 2 seasons ago, on a Tuesday night. Such a journey to make, and the ovation they got from the Sunderland fans was deserved.

Lets hope you bring the same amount of fans up this time round. I think we play you early on...late August i think, so i'll be looking forward to that one (im looking forward to them all!). Bring on the new season!
rabbidogg
Yeah te Argyle fans really are about as good as they get (if I do say so myself) and there's even about 1,000 of them going to Austria for tomorrow night's match against Real Madrid. That's a quality turnout. I'd like to see more games this season and now i'm working at uni that might just be a possibility.

Djordic is looking very strong at left wing at last, now he has his confidence back and is fully fit, he could be a dangerous player in the side. There are good players everywhere you look, I just hope two things. Firstly that Luke McCormick has what it takes to be a full-time Coca-Cola Championship 'keeper or Romanin Larrieu regains full fitness, and secondly, that Akos Boszaky regains full fitness sooner rather than leter, as he could be the difference between a promotion spot and mid-table nothingness.

Argyle 2 - 0 Yeovil Town

AFTER Real Madrid, the real deal: if last Friday's glamour game against Fabio Capello's galacticos was the stuff of dreams, Argyle's only home pre-season home friendly brought with it a healthy dose of reality.

The Pilgrims needed to measure themselves against an English side playing English football (in, though, it has to be said distinctly un-English conditions) before the visit of Wolves in Saturday week's Coca-Cola Championship opener, and their Westcountry neighbours provided the test.

Barry Hayles and Nick Chadwick ensured Ian Holloway's necessarily low-key start to life at Home Park ended in a victory that was always comfortably in Argyle's clutches.

IPB Image

Hayles netting the game's first goal after ten minutes and Chadwick doubled the margin of victory with five minutes remaining of a game containing few major breakthroughs but plenty of pleasing football.

With just Friday's nostalgic visit to Bristol Rovers before the Pilgrims get down to the serious stuff, only some Spanish side have had one over the new regime since Holloway breezed into Home Park. It might have been a cauldron pitchside, but there is definitely a breath of fresh air in the dug-out.

Holloway had sent out probably his strongest starting line-up of this pre-season, even though the Pilgrims were without incapacitated captain Paul Wotton and recuperating goalkeeper Romain Larrieu.

The new manager paired his new strikers, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Hayles, for the first time, and, in the absence of the skipper, partnered Lee Hodges and Lilian Nalis in central midfield. David Norris and Bojan Djordjic occupied the wide positions, as Tony Capaldi again began at his Northern Ireland position of left-back.

Hasney Aljofree captained the side from central defence, as he had done against Real Madrid (still looks funny, that) five days earlier, with Mathias Kouo-Dombe and Paul Connolly completing the back four.

Argyle (4-4-2): 23 Luke McCormick (gk); 22 Paul Connolly (28 Scott Laird 76), 13 Mathias Kouo-Doumbe, 6 Hasney Aljofree (18 Gary Sawyer 76), 14 Tony Capaldi (25 Ryan Dickson 58); 7 David Norris, 4 Lilian Nalis (27 Reuben Reid 58), 20 Lee Hodges (Luke Summerfield 58), 32 Bojan Djordjic (2 Anthony Barness half-time); 9 Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (11 Nick Chadwick half-time), 10 Barry Hayles (A Trialist half-time). Substitute (not used): 24 Josh Clapham (gk).

Yeovil Town (4-4-2)
: 13 Darren Behcet (gk); 2 Kevin Amankwaah, 27 Sean Kelly (5 Scott Guyett 63), 4 Terry Skiverton (17 Bradley Thomas 89), 16 Andy Lindegaard; 15 David Poole (19 Gavin McCallum 76), 8 Anthony Barry (14 Jean-Paul Kalala 63), 11 Chris Cohen (7 Paul Terry 66), 9 Arron Davies; 10 Wayne Gray (18 Daniel Webb 81), 12 Matt Harrold (27 Ishmael Welsh 63). Substitutes (not used): 3 Nathan Jones, 6 Terrell Forbes.

Referee: Mike Mullarkey (Devon).

Attendance: 4,810.
Peace

Not at all, my boys played their hearts out and could've easily gone home with all 3 points. Finishing and the final ball in the last 3rd made the difference in the end.

That's good to know.

Well done to them on the win as well.

Kiko, do you go often to watch them? Whats the Argyle star player, or is a team of players, rather than one maestro.

Well now i'm living in Cardiff, it's a good 3 hour journey down to Plymouth which I can't afford to do every week being a student. I still try and see them when i'm down for a weekend every now and then, but that won't be very often this year. They also have had a fixture in Cardiff in the past 3 seasons, but this year (just like the past two years) the Cardiff away game is on boxing day - when i'm back home in Devon! It's so anying, but that's just the way it goes! I don't really wanna be walking around Cardiff on matchday with an Argyle top on anyway...

The players of the season at Home Park last year was David Norris (right wing) who was runner-up in 2003/04 and 2004/05 to Paul Wotton. I guess you could say they are the two crowd pleasers. Wotton has been with the club since he was about 14 and is a local lad, so he's the kind of club talisman I guess you could say.

Personally I think it's a team of players who are very level in terms of talented, and that has brought us the success we've achieved in the last 5 years. Right now, i'd say that Hungarian playmaker, Akos Buzsaky is the most talented player at the club by a distance, but his time at Plymouth has been blighted by innjuries. His current groin injury will probably mean he'll miss the first few games of the coming season.

We also have Bojan Djordic who looks on form right now, who you may know was previously of Man Utd. Other notable players include Nick Chadwick (formerly Everton), Tony Capaldi (NI International) and former Fulham striker Barry Hayles. We also recently signed Sylvan Ebanks-Blake from Man Utd who looks and excellent prospect for us biggrin.gif

Good times.
Joel.

Plymouth trialist goes home
Plymouth Argyle manager Ian Holloway has sent Cercle Brugge striker Ibad Muhamadu home.

The Dutchman had impressed during a trial with the Championship outfit and Holloway was expected to make a bid to the Belgian side.

However, the former QPR boss has now sent Muhamadu back to his full-time employers after being priced out of a move for the 24-year-old.

Brugge are looking to cash in on the starlet but Holloway, although keen on his signature, has revealed their asking price is too high.

"Ibad has gone back home. They wanted a lot of money for him," Holloway said.

"I'll keep monitoring him, I quite like a lot of things about him, but I'll have to look elsewhere. There's no rush."

Interesting because I found this on BBC Sport:

QUOTE
Plymouth Argyle boss Ian Holloway has revealed he has agreed an undisclosed fee with Belgian side Cercle Bruges for striker Ibad Muhamadu.

The Dutchman, 24, first appeared for Argyle on the pre-season tour of Austria and was used as a half-time replacement in the 2-0 win over Yeovil.

Holloway said: "I had to agree a fee to get Ibad here and I've got to sit down with everybody and sort something out.

"I thought he was bright and you can tell he has played at a higher level."

Thanks for replying Kiko.

Interesting, conflicting reports from two big sources. I saw clips of the Yeovil game I think it was, and he looked a good player, some good glimpses of technique.

I guess that Rovers can be classed in the same league as Real Madrid then after that result. Pre-season means nothing!

Welcome to the forum, I hope to see you around here often tjudith biggrin.gif

Even so i thought Plymouth can win. g.gif
However on Saturday Wolves should be defeated..they're just the 24th on the table laguage.

Thank u for having me.
Dingo.

4 days to go till the big one Plymouth v Wolves !

I think its time to start discussing the match itself. smile.gif

I think it should be a good game, the tale of the two new managers McCarthy v Holloway, im hoping it will be a very good start to the season for Wolves because its always nice to get off to a good start in a new season, Plymouth will no doubt be stern opposition especially at there place so i dont think it will be very one sided, a 1 goal win or a draw is maybe on the cards.

My Line up:

-------------------------Murray-------------------------

McNamara------Breen--------Craddock------Naylor--

Ricketts--------Rosa----------Olofinjana-----Clapham--

----------------Bothyroyd-----Cort------------------------

I think the defense is pretty solid if McNarama is fit which he could be and then Breen and Craddock as the centre back pairing looks very solid and then Mr Reliable Naylor at left back. In Midfield is where i see a few problems, the loss of Ince and Seol will be a big blow and now the injury to young Mark Davies leaves us a little short, i would like to see Olofinjana given a chance in there after a few years of underachievement really, Rosa looked a good player last season and should be in the side, maybe Clapham at left midfield where has played before and then Ricketts in there too. I would like to see our Brazilian new boy Finkler in there at some point as he has looked very good since we got him on trial, hopefully also Carsley might join before the end of the week then he would be in my team because we dont really have any speciality defensive midfielders anymore. Bothroyd and Cort should be the starting front pair unless Frankowski and Clarke show something in training this week.

Well i'm hoping for a repeat of last year's opening game for Argyle, where we came away from the Majeski with all 3 points smile.gif Happy days!

This fixture should be interesting as it's always hard to predict how your team are going to perform on opening day, particularly when playing some top class sides (Real Madrid) and then some local minnows (Plymouth Parkway). Any form just goes out the window when the Championship season restarts.

I'm quite confident of a 3 point start once again, Wolves don't really have a good side on paper. Their ageing squad is missing the class now required in the Coca-cola championship. The defence is solid enough, but I can only see attacking threats coming from the left-wing, where Clapham's pinpoint crosses could land right on the head of Carl Cort, and Argyle's backline certainly isn't the tallest. The Plymouth keeper is gonna have to command his area against the Wolves attack.

With Lescott gone, I think Argyle have plenty to worry Wolves' defence going forward. I expect the two new boys, Hayles and Ebanks-Blake, to be paired up front and their pace and skill, mixed with youth and experience could make a difference. They'll both be keen to impress on their full debuts and follow the form of pre-season. David Norris will be key on the right, the best player in the side right now, and Bojan Djordic is starting to show his undoubted class on the left wing. Nalis and Wotton (injury and court-case aside) should command the middle on home turf against a poor Wolves engine room.

The back four should be pretty settled together and I hope Romain Larrieu has fully recovered from his testicular infection after the practice friendly on Monday. He'll need to be strong under the cross or set piece. Here's my expected Argyle side:

-------------------------Larrieu-------------------------

Connelly------Doumbé----Aljofree------Capaldi----

Norris----------Wotton--------Nalis--------Djordic---

----------------Hayles-------Ebanks-Blake------------

I can't wait for the match, sadly won't be there but i'll e watching on premiumTV later. It'll be interesting to see how the side play under Holloway but I expect a high intensity passing game with plenty of attacking flair. Watch out for Reuben Reid coming off the bench if he gets the chance, he'll torment Jackie McNarama, as you call him Ferrari laugh.gif laugh.gif

Dingo.

Trust you to pick up on that. laugh.gif Im thinking theres no hope left for me as a Wolves supporter if i cant even spell our players names right. shrug03.gif

Wolves have signed Karl Henry today which should be a very useful addition indeed so my line up that i suggested may have a few changes come Saturday, im sure Mick has a few more players up his sleeve too. thumbsup.gif Whatever the line ups im definately looking forward to the game.
