Crofty says: Hey everyone, this is now the all purpose nomis thread. In addition to the q&a which michael generously performs this thread is now for all nomis related disscussion and pics. The purpose is mostly to save time and space by having one dedicated nomis thread instead of one and a half. Cheers.
Hi all
I'd like to introduce myself first - my name is Michael Randerson and I am the Creative Director of a design agency called Hello Media. We are currently designing the new website for Nomis and I am looking to develop a FAQ section - for which I need your help!
I am basically asking you to ask me any question you may have about Nomis - anything! The idea is that we can then build a comprehensive FAQ section on the website that actually reflects what players want to know - not some corporate babble that we make up!
I have spoken to the boards moderators before posting this and they are happy for me to do so.
I would just like to note that I am not going to be advertising or glorifying these boots. I want to remain impartial on this board to avoid any marketing acquisations.
So, please ask me some questions!
Thanks
Michael

nice.. its great to have someone from nomis here! i have a pair of your Nine Pincers and I love them!
a few questions i have are: how does the control dry and control wet actually work? like, i know its part of the tanning process that makes it unique, but what actually happens to the leather that makes it grip more?
#2: when you say it has 16x the grip compared to other dry control boots, what boots are you comparing them with? i've searched high and low through your website and through Eurosport but i can't seem to find what your control is for testing.
Thanks again for taking your time to post there

New designs > Yes (more info to follow)
Customising boots > Yes (more info to follow)
Wet Control/Dry Control > I will find out as much as I can on this... I'm not sure how much info on how it actually works can be realised (To stop others copying it). I think this will be a very common question, so I will do my best on this one.
I also know they are constanly working on improving the control technology and that they are optimistic there will be even more grip on future boots.
Thanks - will be back with more detailed answers soon.

Thanks - will be back with more detailed answers soon.
Welcome to SP. Good to see other small brands are slowly starting to see the value of communicating with the consumer!
I would recommend however that if Nomis want to communicate, they dont use a media agency, and have all answers processed and approved by corporate people. otherwise its not any different than any other marketing/ad...
you'll get much better interest and learn more with an open discussion compared to authorized information release!
best of luck, I look forward to the discussion!

Yes, there will be a new shoe unveiled very soon for sale Mar 1 next year. This has a brand new feature on the outsole, is a totally new look for Nomis and uses very high quality materials. Maybe I can show the moderators this shoe first!!? (Some how).
There are so many benefits to this beyond the grip.
The wet control shoe is tacky to touch and as soon as any moisture hits the leather surface it reacts and becomes grippier. But the amazing thing is that although it uses the moisture to trigger the full power of the technology it repels the moisture which means the shoe and your feet stay dry on the inside which for players, who play on cold wet pitches, will know this is a massive advantage.
Now the dry control technology works in the opposite way which means it needs no trigger it is always there.
Finally the comfort of any shoe is a key factor and one that I focused on the most. So often I see top players suffering from blisters after every game and this makes no sense to me as it is their job and they have to feel well in their shoes.
My $130 shoe has all the same qualities of the $200 shoe. The only difference is that the fit is tighter in the toe box area suiting a narrower foot and it is made of high quality cow leather not Kangaroo. This would normally be a big difference concerning stretch and durability etc.
The one piece upper on our top end shoes is very nice on the foot hence why we called the top end Wet Control shoe The Glove... It fits like one!

If you have exclusives pictures for us we would be very pleased and excited to see an early picture. You could either send us a PM or send an e-mail. But don't feel obligated.
Also, thanks to yourself and Simon for taking time out of your schudule which I'm sure is very hectic. The answers (and questions) were a very interesting read. Myself and RKA appreciated the interest shown very much and I'm sure so do the users of the Boot Room.
And Richard, I have not seen you around the forum much recently, but if you would like I can set up a new topic, or find the old one (whatever you prefer) for you to showcase new boots and answer questions.
Thanks again guys.

to clarify my comments, i was talking not about you being a marketing company, but this being a marketing response. my question would also be, why doesnt simon post here directly, instead of through you?
are the words you posting your words, or simons directly quoted?
also, please dont take my questions as being negative. as mentioned, im very happy to have other small brands here, and am just offering some advice

looking forward to hearnig more.

What type of market are the Nomis range in?
The comfort and touch profile: ala Adidas Predators and Nike Tiempo Legends
or
Speed and lightness like the Nike Mercurial Vapors and Adidas F50+'s?
or
Is there both?
When I saw Nomis boots in my local Intersport it seemed to be in the market of the Predators but maybe I haven't seen the whole range.
Does Nomis do anything other than football boots?
If not, will there be something new in the future?
And my final question...
Can I test out boots for Nomis?

Hi there, I have a pair of the Spark and to be honest I am very disappointed in them.
The biggest problem is the grip 'coating' which starts flaking off as soon as you use it. I think your company has to fix this for their future releases, because the rate of wear and tear is just not acceptible for a GBP 110 boot.
I emailed your company and the first thing your staff did was to say this is 'normal' wear and tear, which I disagree.
Just thought u may be able to reflect that to ur company.
penf.pat.15
Oct 27 2005, 06:41 PM
^ the process that Nomis does is not a "coating," but its the treatment of the leather. My cleats flake a little too, but i have not noticed drop in performance.
if i do have a complaint, its the sole for my cleat is beginning to seperate from the upper.MIchael, would it be possible to get a replacement pair or something along those lines if the damage becomes greater?

Hi, thanks for all your continuing questions.
Firstly I would just like to re-iterate that I'm trying to collect FAQs for the new Nomis website (and trying to get answers as soon as I can, if possible, onto the board) and I actually work for Hello Media. Unfortunately I'm not in a personal position to make any comments about any problems you (AHCL20/penf.pat.15) may have had with any of Nomis's boots as being external I cannot get involved in their returns policy. Sorry, but I hope you can understand my position. But please be assured that I will pass your comments on with the questions. (My advice would be to take photographs and forward them onto info@nomissports.com - I can guarantee they will be looked at!)
Just to try and answer a few of your questions:
Now why does the head of a sports company not post here... Perhaps he's a little bit too busy! As I am sure you can appreciate Richard, being in the industry yourself.
Regarding the answers, where it is possible for me to answer a question, I will (due my previous comment) but yes, Simon is currently answering questions directly. I would also like to add that when we launch the new Nomis website, users will be able to contact all the different departments of Nomis directly, so if you had a technical question you could contact the technical team... The idea being that you don't get lost in any red tape and can get the best answers from the best people to answer your questions.
Regarding Nomis's market positioning, the current models (and soon to be launched models) feature heavily on technology, improving performance and comfort. I'm not sure if you would classify them into one market position though.
Currently Nomis, as well as their football boots, have a range of sporting gloves - you can get more information at [URL=
http://www.nomissports.com/gloves]Nomis Gloves[/URL]
If you are in the UK you will see a lot of the gloves being worn by rugby players and the British Lions wore them on their recent tour of New Zealand. Regarding what's coming next - all I can say is stay tuned! (Again I will pass this question on).
Regarding being a tester - I can reveal that when we launch the new website, you will be able to become a Nomis Member. Nomis Members will get lots of great stuff and opportunities, one of which will be creating a global testing team! - I'm not sure on the finer details of this, but yes I know Nomis are keen to use players of all ages, levels and locations to help test their boots.
Hope that helps answer some of your questions and I will forward them all on.
Thanks.
Michael

So would it be free to sign up to be Nomi Member?
And would it be free to become a Boot Tester?
And if we became a Tester, would we choose the Boots, then they get sent?
Or would you just randomly send us some Boots and say, "Hey, try these out?"

Yes of course it would be free to sign up to become a member. We've got great plans and ideas to make being a member fun and worthwhile.
Regarding the testing, I can't answer that one myself, but I will add it to the list and get back to you as soon as I can. I've already put my name down for it

I recieve your October Newsletter a few weeks back or so and it said your new website would be up and running in October, which I can see is obviously not happening but what really caught my attention is that your online shop is going to offer FREE worldwide shipping. Is it true or is there some kind of catch?
Hello_Nomis
Oct 30 2005, 12:16 AM
So, someone did notice! (I hang my head in shame!!) We were all set for launch last week but we decided to add a few extra features and functionality to the site so we have had to delay the launch. All I can tell you is that we're working flat out to get it up there!
With the shipping, yes we are still planning a free shipping option. No catches, although if you want express delivery (overnight despatch) there could be a possible charge for that. There might also be a small charge for returns (not sure yet) - we are still trying to organise the best possible deal for this. The logistics involved are quite complex as we will be offering the entire Nomis range to all global regions - for example you will be able to order boots in the UK which are only available and stocked in Australia.

I think poeple that want to be testers for any company should rethink it and actually ask what is invloved, because if im not wrong you have to really test the boots write out every espect of the boot, you can't play in them in eares with big crowds example actual games, you dont get to keep the boots after you went through al the testing and even if you cant be bothered trying out the boots or you have other things to do you still hve to write up the review for it, chances are im wrong about most of the stuff above but i think its been said by somone who is a tester for adidas or nike!

I bought the red sparks dry grip boots from nomis themselves , when they came in the morning i couldn't wait to try them as i had a game in the afternoon, and i was very disapointed in them aswell, i change them at half time to my adidas preds, but the sparks are a comfortable boot better than adidas, but they gave me less grip than the preds i thought, also nomis was going to sponsor our football club, i was in email contact with there head of uk marketing and they said they was going to come to our club to help with sponsorship, as we have 40 teams ranging from mini soccer, girls teams and seniors, i think it was a ploy to get me to buy their boots, well what a cheap way of getting a sale, as we have a diapointed club aswell as a disapointed customer, and i'm not to happy with them at all. Lets hope they don't do this to anyone else.

As if they would go to the bother of almost sponsoring your club just to get one sale. Stop being petulent. If you have a problem with the boots, say so. But don't go off trying to smear a company thats actually spending time on a fans/players forum trying to answer questions and get feed back.

so why don't they answer my emails to when they are comming to our club like they said they were, which was last month. Dont get me wrong they are a nice boot but was disapointed by them thats all, if you went to all the trouble that i did for the kids of the club you would feel the same.

I think a company will be quite happy to have valuable feedback from customers like this, especially good and bad feedback, the only way a company can evolve is if it fixes its faults, which Maddy1971 is supplying. No company is angelic, the good companies are able to counter their bad bits with good customer service.

Why? Incase it gives a bad name to the company?
Although his argument is rather random, why can't he talk about it here? It isa problem or question he has for this company. If he can't put it here, where can he persides that address?

Hello again. Hope everyone had a good weekend. Great result for the Roar. Anyway, back on topic...
SOCCERKID10 - Is there anytime of the day that you play more than others? Players who do a lot of night time playing have chosen the Wet Control due to the dew and moisture on the ground.
maddy1971 - I would also suggest you give Nomis UK a call to discuss your concerns - I am sure they will be able to explain the current situation and as with all other feedback I will pass your comments on to Simon.
