I couldn't watch the game here (Australia) for both Soph v Rookie and Celebrity All-Star challenge but here's the recap by insidehoops. Heard Chris Paul got robbed (MVP). Lee got the MVP with 30 points on 14-of-14 shooting and 11 rebounds. Chris Paul had something like 13 points 16 assists and 9 steals, just missing out on Triple Double.

Recap of Rookie All-Star

Heard Celeb Challenge was funny. I only saw some of the clips, one which was particularly funny. Chris Turker - He was wide open, he got the ball and tries a spin move but doesn't even get a shot off when he realizes that the basket isn't even close to him and falls out of bounds. :lmao:

Kobe Bryant is intrigued by the thought of a Scottie Pippen comeback and would love him to do it with the Lakers.

"He was in camp with us last season and he looked like he was in great shape," said Bryant at today's All-Star media session. "I'm going to tell him there's a place in the triangle for him."

Raptors been on fire finally we have a chance of making it to the playoffs biggrin.gif

Raptors are in excellent form under Colangero as their GM. He made all the right moves during off-season, building around Bosh. Trading for Ford and letting Mike James go, drafting Andrea Bargnani and getting Nesterovic for Bonner and filler. Gotta give credit to Sam Mitchell as well. He started to learn from his mistake and is doing a fantastic job. But as a Nets fan, I'm hoping this streak don't last long. smile.gif

hahah ..the foot race between Barkley and Dick Bavetta made my day. they need to have more stuff like this on the All Star Weekend instead of stupid dunk contests where the judges are the bigger story instead of the contestants.

Dunk Competition Recap - Won by Green

Dunk contest is getting worse and worse each year. Won by Gerald Green. I thought Howard did well and was robbed of a place in the final (sticker dunk was creative).

Nate Robinson - I mean...judge gives him too much credit and advantage because of his height. How does Nate attempt a dunk for 2 mins then fail, then gets 2 attempts more, failing one and making the last and wind up with a score of 45?

Bah. One of the worst Dunk Competition nevertheless. Tyrus was a disgrace to even compete here.

The Nets aren't interested in continuing to pay Vince Carter "max money," and they know he'll be looking to move on to Orlando this summer when he can opt out of his contract. By trading him by the deadline, they can dictate where he goes." New York Daily News
QUOTE
"Rod's trying everything he can to trade Carter," said one team executive who talked to Thorn. "He'd rather trade Vince than Jason (Kidd). They still look at Kidd as the face of the franchise." New York Daily News

QUOTE
"But Kidd is in demand, too. Phil Jackson is pushing for the Lakers to acquire the Nets' second All-Star performer, who won't play tomorrow against the West because of a strained back."
But Lakers executive Jim Buss, son of owner Jerry Buss, wants to continue to grow slowly and is against including second-year center Andrew Bynum in any deal.

"Asked where he would prefer to go if he was traded, Kidd said: “To whatever team that was going to win a championship.” But then he quickly added: “There is no team out there that I would like to be on. I’m happy where I’m at.” "The Lakers have been interested in acquiring Kidd, something he said he had heard. “There’s been people who have contacted the Nets, so we’ll see what happens,” he said. “Jersey has been good to me. I’ve really enjoyed Jersey. The business always gets in the way of basketball.” New York Daily News
QUOTE
"Asked whether he'd mind being traded to the franchise he grew up rooting for, Kidd said: ``With the history of the Lakers, you definitely can't be disappointed. Just the tradition, what they have as a franchise, you're not going to say you would be disappointed.'' InsideSoCal

Interesting how this will turn out. I'm pretty sure either Kidd or Carter would be dealt before the trade deadline. Is any team really interested in Carter? Especially since he can opt out of contract this summer. Maybe Sign & Trade to Orlando for Expiring contract and draft pick? Or Kidd to Lakers for fillers? Nevertheless, this would be long rebuilding process for us if we trade Carter or Kidd...or both.

just watch and see Gilbert Arenas AKA Agent 0 will not get the MVP because he plays in the crappy East and his team is nowhere close to being the best team in the East yet alone the NBA....Nash is having a career year but it will come down to him and Nowtizki....Nowitzki is the best player on the best team...so most likely he will win it if the Mavs hold up....but Phoenix cant beat the top teams in the West...and Mavs definetely can...so i think Dirk or Kobe will eventually get the MVP......

lol who is the coach of the east all-stars? i think it's Eddie Jordan coah of the Washington Wizards

Big men always get robbed in the dunk contest. It sucks.
And we all got robbed because supposedly, Dwight had some crazy shit for the final!
I love that Sticker Dunk. 12'6 feet. incredible. Alittle disappointed my boy Kobe didn't give him a 10.

Who do you guys think wins today?

I will say West 140-125

West 153 -132 East
Kobe Bryant with MVP award with 31 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 steals.

I enjoyed it! smile.gif

oh and the website above should be: http://www.hoopshype.com/rumors.htm
good site Carl, bookmarked.
KorS
Gosh, just look how many TOs the East had, they needed better passing to get the offense going. Look at the West, they had tons of assists to give easy baskets, two guys had double figure assists, the East had no one close. West only took 6 more shots than the east, but they had 52 assists compare to East's 29, that's a big difference.

Anyway, It was good game overall. Kobe and Vince monster jam was one of the highlight! Also, lmao at Gilbert Arenas jumping on the trampoline during a timeout. Funny shit.

Well deserved MVP for Kobe. It was either Amare or Kobe but Kobe's dunk at the end sealed it.

Overall, some interesting stuff happened in this year's All-Star -
- Shaq, Dwight and Bron dancing
- The Barkley/Bavetta race.
- Gilbert briefly catching fire in the first round of the 3 point shootout and started shooting one hand 3's.
- Gilbert jumping on a trampoline during a timeout.
- Dwight's sticker dunk. (Should've expanded more imo but nevertheless interesting)
STICKER DUNK
Malu
i didnt catch the dunk contest, but when i caught the highlights today, how the hell didnt the "sticker dunk" get all 10's.. that was totally creative. oh well the dunk contest has never been a huge hit for big men.

top entertaining things
1)The Barkley/Bavetta race.
2)Dwight's sticker dunk
3)Shaq, Dwight and Bron dancing
4)the game wasnt really that fun to watch for me.

he wanted to be a hard ass. those dunks kind of sucked tho. I don't blame him for the short changing, I mean a 10 for jumping over the scorers table....now why did he give Dwight an 8 on the sticker dunk? That was the best dunk for years.

Trade deadline coming up. There's at least 1 major trade every year so I'm hoping it's the Nets that trade for big men. If we could trade someone for Pau Gasol...

"The Nets are more serious than ever about trading their star point guard, Jason Kidd, by Thursday’s trading deadline, several Eastern Conference officials said Monday. The Los Angeles Lakers are the front-runners, but their offer of young players, expiring contracts and a draft pick is probably not enough to get a deal done."

"But according to three officials in the Eastern Conference who spoke on the condition of anonymity because no deal had been completed, the Nets have been trying to involve at least one other team in the deal. Multiteam deals are difficult to make at the trading deadline and usually happen around the draft or before the season starts."

"Possible offers from the Lakers could include centers Chris Mihm and Kwame Brown as well as point guard Jordan Farmar. The Lakers have been unwilling to trade forward Lamar Odom, their No. 2 player behind the All-Star Kobe Bryant, or Andrew Bynum, their young center. Ultimately, the Nets’ decision comes down to this: If they take that first big step toward rebuilding by trading Kidd, can they stay competitive after the breakup of a team that once had lofty expectations?"

"Trading Kidd, who is to make $40 million over the next two seasons, would probably lead to the end of Vince Carter’s time with the Nets as well. Carter, who is owed more than $16.3 million next season, can opt out of the final year of his contract at the end of the season. There is already a widespread belief that he will do that, regardless of what happens with Kidd." - Times
Damn it. Rebuilding again after so many successful years under Kidd. And rebuilding takes more than 3 years imo. So I hate the idea. I've said this and I'll say it again. Don't trade anyone, tank this season and get Oden or Durant or any potential bigs! That's the way to survive. It's like the Spurs. They had Robinson out for whole season, resulting in real bad season. They drafted Duncan and look at them now. If we don't trade anyone and draft someone with real potential, Vince will stay since we can offer him more than any other current teams. Oh and get rid of Frank. His iso tactics are so obvious and countered easily by the opposition coaches.

So next season team would be: POTENTIAL BIGS (Oden)/Krstic/Jefferson(Let Jefferson heal his ankle this season)/Carter/Kidd. Now that is a championship team...BUT

Realistically...Kidd for Top 10 Pick and potential and sign and trade Vince for all-star potential player or top 10 picks + fillers(with some potential players). If not, keep the team and fire Frank. At least that will improve us a bit.

QUOTE
"An immediate storyline has to do with Thursday's NBA trade deadline and how the roster could possibly change again. There still is a 50/50 chance center Pau Gasol would be traded. Also, the Grizzlies are open to deals involving Dahntay Jones, Brian Cardinal and Stromile Swift -- players who aren't viewed as part of the team's long-term vision. That there haven't been caustic disruptions behind closed doors in the wake of franchise uncertainty and personnel decisions geared toward a youth movement serves as some sort of consolation."

Hmm...I really wouldn't mind Swift. Gasol wold be perfect but that's unlikely to happen. So Swift...hmm...

i don't think Gasol in Chicago is going to work because noone wants to pull the trigger and make the deal as they feel Chicago is not giving up enough...Cleveland is not going to get Bibby or any point guard so they are going to have to work with what they got. And i doubt Kidd getting traded unless the Nets feel like they can take Kwame Brown which i doubt very much because they want Bynum and Lakers dont want to give him up. Nets have a new point in Williams but its all about Kidd and if the Nets have enough respect for him to trade him.

Well in the Lakers defense, we can get a whole lot more than J-Kidd for Bynum. And those rumors are BS anyway, Nets and Lakers have been at this since January and the two conditions to the trade when negotiations started were Kobe and Bynum are untouchable. So I don't think you can believe the reports now saying the deal is off because Bynum isn't included. It is still 27 hours til trade deadline, plenty can happen.

A Bynum+Odom package was meant to pick up a PF/C allstar. So I would say J. O'Neal, Gasol, or Garnett. However, Mitch didn't want to deal Bynum to West for Gasol....so that wouldn't happen either.

jrlm8
I was just skimming through your quotes really quickly and I thought it said "shipped" instead of shopped. Man, I got excited there for a second. Well, we are under 12 hours til the deadline. And it doesn't look like this will end up happening, but the Lakers did lose tonight and Phil Jackson looks tired and beat up. Kobe just looked like he wasn't that into the game, so there is something going on in the Laker locker room, if it has anything to do with a trade, I may doubt. I don't see this team holding on for much longer, I think they are on a steep skid right now, and the only thing that can stop it will be a 50+ point night from Kobe, and it doesn't look like he has it right now.
This has been a roller coaster of a season for the lakers. If in fact this trade will happen, I think its going to be the last minute deal after Vince has been dealt. I hope this happens, but I am having serious reservations about it. Oh well. Go Lakers, prove me wrong (and win a game sometime soon).

Anyone see D-wade dislocate his shoulder?
OUCH!

my most hated player in the NBA got hurt last night...Dwayne Wade....i was happy to see his ass injured...i hate him....this will show Shaqs true colors that he can't win unless he has a young superstar next to him...Heat will mot likely not make the playoffs and i'm happy....and Kidd is not going anywhere...but i think Gasol will though because he made some comments yesterday that he wants out....and Bibby....i dont think Cavs have much to offfer for him but i definetely know LeBron is crossing his fingers and hoping it happens....
K
Wade's injury did look really painful. Though I wouldn't wish something like that on him, or anybody else (well, except maybe Steve Francis or T-Mac)...

The deadline is about two hours away, and all the stars are still with their teams. I read a rumor about Vince Carter being interested in being traded to Orlando -- he's from Daytona Beach, an hour's drive from O-Town -- but the Magic apparently won't try to trade for him. I would be really excited to see this trade happen, because he and Dwight Howard would form a pretty sick combo, but I highly doubt it will. Oh well.
Malu
yay the Rockets won vs the heat, and the better news Wade was injured last night. not sure how extensive..but hey, a cause for celebration ofcourse

Vladimir Radmanvic admits lie to Lakers about injury

By Jeff Lenchiner | Feb. 23, 2007
It turns out that Vladimir Radmanovic lied to the Lakers about how he got injured last week. The forward is out around eight weeks with a separated right shoulder.

He initially claimed to have slipped on some ice while walking with his hands in his pockets.

But Friday evening Radmanovic released the following statement via the Lakers:

“First of all I’d like to apologize to my teammates, coaches, Lakers management and Lakers fans for initially lying about the circumstances of the injury to my shoulder last weekend. I’d like to, however, come forward and set the record straight at this time. The truth is that I hurt myself in a fall while snowboarding. Being young and sometimes immature, I initially panicked and made up a false story about how I hurt myself. However, over the past few days my conscience has been bothering me terribly. I am not a dishonest person and could no longer live with this deception. Therefore, I came forward today and told the truth to the Lakers. It is just as important to me though, to be honest with Lakers fans and the public in general, therefore I am making this statement and apology. I can’t express enough how deeply sorry I am, not only for the activity that led to my injury, but also for the initial deception of my story. I hope for everyone’s understanding and forgiveness. I vow to work as hard as possible to rehabilitate my shoulder and rejoin my teammates as soon as possible and to help us become a team that Lakers fans can be proud of.”

InsideHoops.com right now is examining the possibility that this could give the Lakers the option of voiding his contract. If another media outlet beats us to the punch we'll quote their report on this page in the next few minutes.

Pure InsideHoops.com speculation here: While Radmanovic probably did have a guilty conscience, as he said above, it's also possible that someone witnessed him getting hurt. So not only would he have to maintain a lie, but he'd also have to constantly worry about someone coming forward who saw what really happened. It seems no one did, but you never know who comes out of the woodwork.

Anyway, good that the truth came out.

The Lakers don't have much depth, and Radmanovic is certainly better than any currently-available free agents. I predict the team fines him, a bunch of funny articles come out mocking him a bit, and that's the end of it.

Larry Brown, Vince Carter to Bobcats?
Charlotte Bobcats general manager Michael Jordan wrote an appeal to season ticket-holders, promising, "It is our intention to spend what it takes to attract the 'right' talent to our team, whether through free-agent signings or trades." The Bobcats have the league's lowest payroll and sagging attendance.

There's speculation the Bobcats will pursue New Jersey Nets' forward Vince Carter, who played at North Carolina, and coach Larry Brown, another former Tar Heel. Current Bobcats' coach Bernie Bickerstaff was not mentioned anywhere in the letter.

as for the Rumors about Pippen and Miller. Miller never came back last year because he wasn't soo sure about the Mavs team and what not. But this year is the year of the Mavs and if he wants to win a ring he will be stupid not to go Dallas. Dallas is my fav team and i would love to have Miller on the team. His leadership will play a big role in the locker room as Mavs really don't have a spoken leader except for Coach Johnson. He can also come off the bench and score about 10pts a night and even though his defense won't be great he was still a great defender when he played and could play a big role on the Mavs defense.

As for Pippen. I agree with you Malu. He is an arrogant piece of crap and should stay retired because he won't do nothing but cause trouble in the locker room and i can see him and Kobe having problems.

As for the Vince Carter thing to Bobcats. I want the Bobcats to succeed but let's be honest they don't have enough talent to lure in Vince Carter. He has no chance of winning a ring with the Bobcats and he's only getting older so why would he go to a franchise that still has a long way to go?....
