if Nash wins the MVP this year, im gonna jump off a cliff. i think hes a good player, but he didnt deserve to win 2 yrs in a row and not to mention 3. Its all about Dirk this year, and im not even a Dallas fan(im from Houston)

Agree^
And the Gilbert 3 free throws was clutch and also very stupid. Don Nelson gave the game away by getting a T. He would have just put it into OT with the 2 instead of end it.

First place in the albeit woeful, Atlantic Division. A playoff berth for the 4th time in there 12 year existence...and lastly, the second player ( Italy's own, Andrea Bargnari) in team history to win the NBA ROTY award since Damon Stoudimire did it way back in the 1995-96' season. What more could a Toronto Raptors fan ask for??? thumbsup.gif

you know a lot of people are not considering the Raptors and the East conference and all that..but Raptors seriously have the deepest bench i've seen in the NBA. an all around good team with players that pose match up problems(ex:Bargnani).
im looking fwd to see them in the playoffs, the only thing that could prolly hurt them is a lack of experience in the post season, but we'll see.
KorS
Raptors are in real hot form right now. It's near impossible for the Nets to catch up sadly. I'm hoping we make it as 8th seed and face Pistons. We kinda have good matchup against them so it's going to be real interesting. Hopefully Nets go through.

Nash is in fine form and is probably always in consideration as long as he plays this way but I even don't see him winning 3 consecutive MVP. He isn't even Top 5 All-Time PG in my book or most of the NBA fans but getting more MVP than most of them? Meh. Having 3 MVP = Larry Bird, Magic Johnson calibre. Can't mention Nash in same sentence with those guys. The likes of Shaq, Garnett, Duncan, Hakeem, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Barkley only has 1 or 2 MVP and Nash being considered above? Haha.

Superior point guard such as Payton, Kidd, Stockton, Isiah, Oscar, Cousy have either no or one MVP too. Dirk's been playing real well and his team is no.1 so gotta give it to him this season.

Shaq feels that way too. biggrin.gif

O'Neal calls Nash's MVPs 'tainted'

MINNESOTA - Often, Steve Nash is sainted for his two MVP seasons, but Shaquille O'Neal considers them to be "tainted."

After Miami's loss in Dallas on Thursday, O'Neal was engaged in an MVP discussion as it related to the Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki. O'Neal questioned how the media picks MVPs and said the award has been "tainted" the past two seasons. O'Neal was the runner-up for Nash's first MVP in 2005.

O'Neal repeated "tainted" references to reporters.

"I don't know what to say," Nash said. "I'm sorry he feels that way."

"Lamar Odom walked out of the Lakers' practice facility Saturday afternoon wearing the grim expression he has been trying to keep from overtaking his face all season. In response to a question about how challenging his season has been, Odom mumbled some remarks about trying to stay positive. Odom would take the official hit a few minutes later when he was informed he has a torn left labrum that could require shoulder surgery and end his season - the same injury and result that befell him in 2005. Odom will be examined by Angels team doctor Lewis Yocum on Monday to see if surgery can be avoided, but there is a danger of additional tearing if Odom returns and is not pain-free." Orange County Register
Like jrml8 said, Lakers are in deep trouble. They are losing their form and with Odom out, more burden for Kobe. Yao Ming is also likely to be back by next Monday. Good news for Houston fans. Even though Mutombo has filled in really well, having Yao back certainly helps in scoring department inside.

"The day began auspiciously when Richard Jefferson warmed up with the Nets before the game for the first time since having arthroscopic surgery to remove loose fragments from his right ankle Jan. 22. He will travel with the team on its six-game trip, which begins Sunday in Philadelphia, and he may play as early as next week. “There is no timetable for him to play,” Frank said before the game. “We just want to try to reintegrate him back in with the team. Again, the feeling is that if he wasn’t going to play on the trip, we wouldn’t take him.” Frank said that an early infection had set back Jefferson’s rehabilitation by about a week. Jefferson did some cutting and took shots Saturday, but he did not dunk." New York Times

Jefferson should be back in few weeks. With him back, I'm hoping Nets can turn around this inconsistent form. Losing to Celtics and 76ers...gosh. Still, Congrat to Kidd for another Triple Double: 11 pts 14 assists 14 rebound. 85th for his career and 10 for the season. Absolute legend. Too bad the team lost sad.gif

sad to say but as much as i want Bargiani to win ROTY so the Raptors can know they are really doing something good which they are but hes not going to win ROTY. It's all Brandon Roy's to lose....and i don't see anyone beating him out right now...

as for the mvp thing....idc how good Nash plays this season. Theres absolutely no way he wins it this year again.

1. The people voting know he can't get a 3peat
2. It's time for a new face like Dirk
3. He has nothing to show for his previous one( No NBA Finals or anything)
4. He doesn't have the best team
5. Most of their wins have come agains the poor East. They are below .500 against Western dominance. Mavs are like beating everyone.

Ron Artest arrested

QUOTE
Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest was arrested Monday and excused indefinitely from the team after a woman said he shoved her to the floor inside his home and prevented her from calling 911.

Placer County sheriff's authorities said the woman reported she and Artest were arguing inside the home Monday morning when he pushed her. The argument moved outside when Artest tried to leave in his Hummer, sheriff's Sgt. Andrew Scott said during a news conference.

"It resulted in some pushing," Scott said of the argument. "Mr. Artest had shoved the victim to the floor several times, then he attempted to leave."

The woman threw a pot at the Hummer, shattering its windshield, Scott said. He would not disclose the woman's relationship with Artest but said a 3-year-old girl was inside the house during the incident.

Getting shipped out of Indiana obviously hasn't done much to keep him out of trouble.
jrlm8
Ron Artest is an idiot. I know these cases always have two sides and its not ussually just one person's fault. But this guy knows he is always on thin ice yet he still gets arrested. I am hoping his NBA career is over.

Lakers lost again. I missed the end of the game, but from what I saw Kobe got hot in the third but looks like he cooled off and still continued to jack up threes. Oh well, this season keeps sucking.

Dallas have won 16 straight. Spurs have won 10. Playoffs are going to be fun in the west.
Greatness
idk about Artest and now he wonders why he's not on team USA or why they don't even attempt to invite him for team USA. As for the Lakers, idk whats up with them but they are sucking big time. Kobe is doing all he can but they just keep losing. This is going to suck come playoff time. As for the Mavs and Spurs. The two best teams in my opinion get really hott when its almost playoff time. This will tell me never to make fun of the Spurs as i was making fun of them earlier this year.
Malu
i actually heard the Ron Artest 911 call on sports radio today and from the jist of it, his wife took responsibility in some of the destruction of the car..but whatever, his knack in getting into these incidents is pretty well known.

Any photos? laugh.gif

It's great that Lakers finally broke their losing streak. They were trailing for the most of the game until Kobe took over. I haven't seen him this hot for a long time. His shot just went in from anywhere.

Well, his DONE it again today against T-wolves. 2 consecutive 50-point games. He scored 50 points and led Lakers to 109-102 win! Credit must go to him and also Odom, who despite injury, played very well and showed that his one heck of a defender. There were many criticisms before about him but really, you can't look at Odom without looking at how he complements the beautiful triangle offense with Kobe and Walton. You look at his individual game and stats, and it's decent but not all that impressive. But when you put them together, it's very effective. All Lakers need now is a pg and another big men.

Anyway, congrat to Lakers fans.

Nets also won today! Monster jam by our own Boki and some quality assist from Jason Kidd did the damage against the Clippers. We have to get that 7th spot in order to avoid facing Pistons because gosh, they are playing some excellent defense currently.

Some news:

QUOTE
Gasol Still Thinking About Chicago
Pau Gasol may not be a member of the Bulls, but that doesn't mean that he didn't want to be when he requested a trade out of Memphis.

"The Bulls are a very good team," said Gasol, addressing Chicago reporters Saturday for the first time since trade talks between John Paxson and Grizzlies general manager Jerry West failed. "They're very talented and have very good options to move forward and become a dominant team in the East.

"I think they're a young team and have the right pieces. I just think they need somebody in there to provide the scoring and control the tempo of the game a little better, especially down the stretch."

Asked if the Bulls were one team he had in mind when he went to Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley about his desire to play for a contender, Gasol said, "absolutely."

I was hoping Gasol moved to the Nets but I think he's set his mind up already with the Bulls.

Celtics Fined $30,000 For Excessive Contact With Durant's Family

The Celtics confirmed Sunday that the team had been fined $30,000 by the NBA for excessive contact with the family of Texas star and likely lottery draft pick Kevin Durant.

GM Danny Ainge sat next to Durant's mother during the Big 12 tournament. The league said Ainge violated rules demanding that contact be kept to a minimum between team executives and potential draft picks, until players officially declare for the draft

Boston is near guaranteed top 3 draft pick. Let it be either Noah, Wright, Oden or Durant. They'll be strengthened because this year's draft is really deep. But I heard Oden might pull out of this draft because of his desire to complete his education. All interesting nevertheless.

after the whole Kobe game he said he was tired of losing...so i take it Phil Jackson was just like do what you do best Kobe....and its funny to see how the Celtics are pressing on Durant. But i doubt him or Oden are coming out....

you know the media hates kobe. even if he averaged 50 points per game for the next 15 games, he still would not get the mvp. i am convinced after last year, that he will never win an mvp.

i think luke is the reason the lakers are playing better now tho. we still arent 100%, when luke can go 4 quarters. we will be there

with Wade and LeBron i doubt Kobe will ever win an MVP...but i will not be suprised if he wins it within the next 3yrs though....
jrlm8
it is more like....with Nash and Dirk, Kobe will never win an MVP. Everyone accepts the west as the strong conference so it would take alot for someone from the east to win in the next 5. But then again, stranger things have happened in D-Wade's favor.

After last year, when Kobe dropped 81 in one game and 62 in 3 quarters in another (vs the eventual West Conf. Champs mind you), you really have to ask yourself if it is possible.
Malu
I just heard today on the way to work ..during Sports Radio, that Kobe Bryant leads all jerseys sales even in China(Yao Ming's home country).

You could also say prolific scorer of his generation, and arguably the greatest scorer of all-time...yeah all opinions, but arguable though.

Hell I remember reading that Chamberlain had more 60 point games(about 32 games) and prolly will more than Kobe Bryant. But I mean Kobe has to friekin slash, cut, and drive to rack up these points..where Chamberlain was bigger than just dunked over his lesser opponents.

Compared to Jordan, who is considered the greatest player of all time....Kobe is 28 yrs old now..
Jordan when he was 28, when he won the first of his six titles, and Bryant already has three of those..

Together with his 65 points..Kobe Bryant is the Jack Bauer of the NBA.
yeah, i said it smile.gif

Kobe do it four straight games scoring at least 50 Points clapping.gif

KOBE = MVP
Let's see if he keeps this streak going tonight vs Golden State warriors and a red hot baron davis who's averaging something like 21 points and 12 assists a game over his last 10 or so!
energy41
Golden State allow their opponents 106.8 PPG for the season so they definately look like a team Kobe might likely score 50+ points against again.
Since team success counts a lot in the race for MVP Kobe's chances aren't too good, which was also caused by several injuries the Lakers had or even still have.

Kobe is a great player and all, and if it was single player performances only in the MVP race he pretty much has to get the award.
Anyway, I think that Dirk Nowitzki, who is the best player of Dallas who will set a franchise record in wins by the end of the regular season, would deserve the MVP award this year.
Even he has the best roster around him IMO, he's a main factor of Dallas' improvements throughout the last years and the current season is outstanding for that franchise.

Btw, quality game tying buzzer beater by Carter last night for the Nets thumbsup.gif .
jrlm8
Yet no one has a true definition for MVP. If it meant best player on best team, it has been over for a month now. But if it meant player that has the most value to the league, it would be hard to argue against Kobe. In a month that is ussually over-shadowed by college basketball. Kobe has made the top headlines over the sweet sixteen games and the first round games. What he has done for the last week has been incredible to say the least.

His streak of 50 came to an end tonight, in a somewhat sub-par 43 point preformance. Lakers still got the win and run it to 5, with alot of home games up-coming.

I don't see Kobe ever winning an MVP because of public and media scurtiny on the guy. He is criticized if he goes out there and scores 50 because he didn't include his teammates. He just criticizes if he drops 8 assists and the lakers don't win. Damn if you, damn if you don't.

OMG! I saw Rasheed missing several open three's this season and now he made such a shot from the own half to tie the game at the buzzer... what a lucky punch for the Pistons.
But still quality, same as for the commentator who went mental.

1-Dirik Nowitziki he is eyepopping.gif
2-Kevin Garnett he is the most complete player in the earth a good rebounder average about 1.8 blocks per a game a 20 + Scorer with some assists and do some work on defense.

Gilbert Arenas done for the season

If losing Caron Butler wasn't bad enough, now the Wizards won't even have their main man for the remainder of the season. Well, they're screwed...

In other news, the Magic wasted Turkoglu's career game against the Raptors last night and lost yet another close game. We still have the eighth and final play-off spot in the East, but only because teams chasing us are doing just as bad as we are at this stage. Tell you what, this is shaping up to be one of the worst playoff races in the history of the NBA.

so a little offtopic, but hey this is the place to rant.

I hate Joey Crawford..i've always hated the jackass. you wanna talk about a big ass ego..
the fact that we even know his name, when Refs should be 2nd hand subject ..first is the game and then the players.
And in a sport when we need unbiased people making decisions..
i'm all for Crawford getting taken out of the league for the rest of the season. dont give this a-hole a chance to ruin someones game in the playoffs.

does my opinion have to do a little with the fact that Duncan is one of my all time fav players? prolly a little, but not that much. plus i love the spurs as well

You live in Houston and like the Spurs? I am sorry, Malu. Must be tough. tongue.gif

Anyway, Tim Duncan is obviously one of the nicest guys in the league. And that was absolutely rediculous to throw him out of a game for laughing about a call. There really isn't anything to worry about though. Tim will be good for the playoffs and the league should now know that Crawford can't ref Spurs games. Now all the other teams in the league have to worry.

oh and Go Lakers. We back into the playoffs because we are like that.

Conley, Cook will leave with Oden

QUOTE
The Ohio State trio of Greg Oden, Mike Conley Jr. and Daequan Cook came into Columbus together and it appears as though they will depart after just one season with the Buckeyes.

According to a pair of sources close to the situation, the three players will release a joint statement Friday morning with each declaring for the NBA Draft.

Oden will sign with an agent, most likely former track and field star Mike Conley Sr., who coached the trio in summer basketball. Conley and Cook will hold off from signing with an agent for now, but if all goes well in individual workouts for NBA teams, they will likely sign with an agent prior to the June 18 deadline to withdraw from the draft.

Oden's career in Ohio State lasted 32 games after he sat out the first seven due to off-season wrist surgery. While he never quite lived up to the lofty expectations that many placed on him, Oden still averaged 15.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game and helped the Buckeyes advance to the national title game.

This dude could have been the first pick in last year's draft if the NBA didn't impose a new rule to block high school players from entering the league. While he wasn't the best overall player in college this season (or even his conference, Big Ten), he's definitely got a lot of potential. I saw a handful of games he played, and he just looked more overpowering and athletic than everyone else, especially at his size.

He does have a serious challenger for the top overall pick in Kevin Durant, though. Durant actually won the College Player of the Year award as a freshman, and looked dominant on the court. If he adds a little more muscle, then he'll be nothing less than a big star in the NBA.

Of course, the main story from this point on will be the playoffs. I'll be rooting on by Magic, even though we'll probably get slaughtered by Detroit. It's just good knowing that Orlando has finally recovered from the T-Mac/Francis years. clapping.gif

i cant wait for the playoffs. 1 more day.

Houston can beat Utah in our series..especially since we have home court advantage. We just have a lack of depth.

as far as other games go.
1) I really wanna see Golden State take on and beat Dallas. its certainly possible, seeing that they've won almost all games against them during the regular season. But Dallas is seriously friekin good and the best team in the league. im sure they will step it up and friekin Dirk will play out of his brains.
not many number 8 seeds go beat the number 1 team. if anything it should be fun to see Don Nelson vs Avery Johnson go at it. *insert suspenseful sound*
2) Miami needs to lose. seriously.
3) LA vs Phoenix. damn this is gonna be entertainment. they should keep playing last years highlights. drama.

Kobe became tooooooooo selfish in the second half of that game....when he wasnt making his shots he still didn't pass the ball when he should've...as for other games Mavs lost which i was really pissed about and Spurs lost which was kind of a shocker to me....
Captoon
Avery Johnson needs to forget he's up against Don Nelson and et his Mavs to play their usual ball and not try to adapt to their opponents' game. The Mavs are showing way too much "respect" to their opponents for a team that's just won 67 regular season games, they should be battering them.

Nene and Camby shut up store in front of Duncan last night who was very subdued. I think the Spurs may just suffer fom not having a better center, capable of threatening more on the offense. Iverson and Anthony were outstanding though.
But last time these two teams met, Denver took Game 1 before losing the following 4 so it's game on... I think the spurs could be in for an early exit though.
