Aside from Nelson, we (the Magic) didn't have anyone that stepped up. Let's hope we can avoid a sweep in Game 4. Some of my friends back in Orlando will be going to the game, and I know they'll try to do their part in getting the team up.

anybody here insinuating that kobe bryant is greater than michael jordan is simply......um... young!
kobe is a great imitation of jordan, undoubtedly the best of the lot playing NOW but will never possess the supreme level of artistry of His Airness.
and to think i never liked jordan when he was playing.... but he's great though.
On a current note its between Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix for me 2 win this year.

what a game.
golden state holding serve at home, leading 3 -1 going in to Dallas, with three chances to put out most people's pick for the champions in the first round. would be a huge, huge upset. Although I rooted for the mavs last season, I like the look of this golden state warriors. theyre young, fast and quick on the three. I love how they really dont have a recogniseable big man for most of the game, but they way they play they dont really need one.

Credit to the Warriors for making the Mavs (my fav NBA team) look like an average team.
I have not seen enough of the series to know what all went wrong but it could have been helpful for Dallas to beat GSW once or twice during the season (and not to drop all 3 games)... not for the better record but for the chance to avoid a playoff series against Don Nelson who knows well enough how to stop Dirk.
Last season the Mavs went to Miami in the finals and couldn't win that once crucial road game which they needed in the GSW series as well. Let things head back to Dallas at 2 each and we would have had a different story now methinks.
This is a massive setback and a step back, it's not like the roster is too weak or so IMO, they sadly just didn't do well enough whereas GSW pulled off a big surprise so congrats to them.
Whoever out of the east makes the finals (I hope Detroit) will win the title now I hope...

I'll take suns. Not into the Pistons.
Nowitzki was (somewhat) conspicuous by his absense, except when he went up to shoot a jumper -- most of which went off-target. He finished 2-for-13 or something like that, and didn't make any of his shots from outside the arc. The Warriors just seemed to have the Mavericks under their wraps all series, and once Richardson hammered that dunk over Dirk, it was all over.
I can't imagine how elated Don Nelson must feel. He had to leave the Mavs under controversial terms, and wasn't exactly best friends with Mark Cuban. Now he's done his part in destroying what was probably Dallas' best chance to win the title.

Utah managed to pull out game 7 on the road.
so
Jazz vs Warriors
Pistons vs Bulls (Detroit leads 1- 0)
Suns vs Spurs
Nets vs Cavaliers
My friends and I watched the Jazz-Rockets game at a bar nearby. I really thought the Rockets had it in the bag after they made the comeback and even took the lead in the fourth... but Utah obviously had other plans, and T-Mac, Yao and company were too helpless to stop them.
It makes me wonder -- will Houston ever win a playoff series? In this series, they had the homecourt advantage, a 3-2 lead, and (on paper) the two best players on the court. They were up by five with less than six mins to go, then they go ahead and blow the lead. Once Okur drained that three with a minute left -- heaven knows why he was left wide open -- it was all over.
T-Mac looked like he was going to cry after the game, and I can't blame him. This was his sixth playoffs, and he's yet to get out of the first round in any of them.

What does anyone think of the current playoff series between the Spurs & Jazz, as well as Cavs & Pistons.
Personally I think that the finals are out of reach for Utah now that they are 1-3. I know that's an easy thing to say, but even I dislike San Antonio, I have to admit that they have a strong basketball team.
As for the East, I can see this matchup going over the whole distance of 7 games.
I don't want to predict anything really, but I hope anyway that Detroit will take it all.
However, any champion other than SA is fine with me

.
Kobe's since taken back whatever he said about asking for a trade. Didn't take long, did it?
The Spurs and the Jazz are playing as I type -- and the Spurs are up 16 at halftime, so they definitely have one foot in the Finals. Though I don't have a lot of interest in who wins what at this point.

these are my thoughts on the Kobe deal
I wanted to say that I personally dont think any less of him , since this debacle.
-Allen Iverson did the same thing, when he wanted out of Philly and wanted to be in a winning situation
-Kevin Garnett should do the same thing...because we basketball fans desperately want him to win.
So when Kobe Bryant does this, because he also wanted to be in a winning situation...suddenly he's any less of a player ..?
He just basically went on air and said what Lakers fans all want. they want a winning situation!
Having said that. I think he will be traded. I just dont see what Lakers have to give, to bring anyone around him. Wish Garnett could play with him.!
Possible destinations: Chicago.

So the Magic got themselves a new coach in Billy Donovan. He led the U. of Florida to two straight college basketball titles, and recently turned down a chance to coach at Kentucky (one of the most storied programs in college sports).
Am I excited that we got Donovan? To be honest, I'm not as excited as other fans may be, and I say this without commenting on his coaching abilities. He's a good coach, no doubt about that.
It's just that college coaches usually don't find a lot of success in the NBA, or any pro league, for that matter. The talent level is different, the playing style is different, and the players' mentalities and attitudes are different. So many good college coaches have failed to win in the pros -- just ask Celtics fans what they thought of Rick Pitino when he coached them.
With that said, I think Donovan's found himself in a good situation as far as the Magic are concerned. All of our best players are under 25, and we just had a brief, but important, introduction to the playoff atmosphere. The team is an up-and-coming one, and it's up to Donovan to put the team into the next level. I'm certainly hoping that he can.

thats what i was just gonna post. he's a good coach..but the chances of him getting success in NBA are slim, ex: Pitino
It's not that he cant..its that everythings against him.
These are my friends thoughts. He lives in L.A. it gives some insight to what was happening in Los Angeles before it blew up nationally:First things first, Kobe Bryant is not going to be traded in 2007. No matter what he says. There'd be so much money lost next year that it'd be stupid to do. Now this isn't to say Kobe will not be traded. If next season the Lakers are in the same boat, the FO will have to trade him or risk losing him for nothing the next year when he opts out. Theres no immediate danger, so Kobe won't be traded (if at all) until next year.
This situation was bubbling in LA for a couple days before it became national (when he asked for the trade w/ Stephen A. Smith). He was upset about the "insider" who said he forced Shaq out. The first thing he did was call his only ally- Phil Jackson. After comparing stories, Kobe realized that he was essentially lied to by the owner to get him to re-sign with the team. So this upset him deeply and he gave a very candid, emotional interview on local radio that afternoon. He was pouring his heart out. So what pushed him to ask for the trade? Nobody called him! All day long, he was expecting them to call so they could talk things out. So the next morning, without having a chance to calm down, everything boiled over and he asked for a trade. Management had a big chance to nip this in the bud, but for whatever reason, they didn't. It blows my mind.
Also, he's never "changed his mind". That's just either the media trying to make him look bad or the media not understanding what's going on. He never retracted his trade demand. But he's always wanted to be a Laker for life. Its like this: You're in a relationship with a girl you love. You want to marry her and spend the rest of your life with her. Then you find out she cheated on you. You try to forgive her, because you still love her, but you know in your heart that it won't work out. Things won't be the same. So even if you leave her, that doesn't mean you don't wish you could still be with her. So its not like Kobe was sitting around saying "Trade me. No wait, don't. Okay, trade me." The message is the same: if you don't want to make changes, trade me.
And one last thing. I love how if you tell management you're sick of losing and they should make the team better, you are a "crybaby" and a "whiner". But if like Kevin Garnett you're in the exact same position but you keep your mouth shut, everyone thinks you're passive and content to lose as long as you get paid. Its a catch-22.

San Antonio Spurs in six games. It will be a tough finals because the Spurs were unable to beat the Cavs in both of their two regular season games. San Antonio has a world class defense and will be able to limit (I said limit, not stop) LeBron enough to get the better of the series. Something needs to be said about having experience in the finals as well.

IDK its up there with the top 5 playoff performances at least. The final 25 points for your team, basically single-handedly answering everything the Pistons did. You can compare him to guys like Jordan, but remember it took MJ a few years to get to the championships. I think he was 27 by the time he got there and LeBron is only 22. Only Magic Johnson can compare, winning the championship in his rookie season, but Magic at least had a year at college and he did not carry his team like LeBron. James has much less of a supporting cast surrounding him than any of those other great performances.
Scoring the final 25 in a game that pretty much decides the conference finals is something that doesn't happen and I dont know if anything like that will happen again. People just dont score the final 25 in regular games much less one of the biggest ones of your career.

Kobe is the greatest player in the NBA right now. Believe it or not, its the truth. And he is surrounded by shitty talent, you can't blame him for wanting to win. He doesn't have that many years left in those legs.
Predator 23
Jun 5 2007, 08:43 PM
Now I'm not blaming him at all for wanting to win and I agree KG screwed himself just sitting back, I just don't like the way he handled it. Kobe jumps up and does every radio show in the country, with a different message each time. Last Wednesday morning he told Stephen A. Smith he wanted a trade. Later that same day, he told Dan Patrick he wanted to be a Laker for life. I just see a confused guy that sees the spotlight shifting to up and coming stars like Lebron and D-Wade. You say he has no talent around him, yet when he had talent(Shaq) they couldn't put their egos aside and ruined what could have been a top dynasty.
BTW-I know he's an amazing player and I'll agree he is probably the most talented player in the league.
So Donovan's all but gone, and now the Magic job is about to be offered to Stan Van Gundy. SVG isn't going to sell many seats, but at least he wants to coach here.
Seriously, trust a Gator to sell you the hell out.

There is a double standard in the NBA. I remember a couple of years ago Kobe had two 40 point performance against the spurs on the road but that not consider an all time great but as soon as lebron did it it legendary.

LeBron i think is going to have a monster series and if they take it to 7 they will lose but i doubt Spurs will let them take it that far. If it goes to 6 thats long enough. But LeBron has owned the Spurs this year. But the reason they beat the Pistons was becasue Gibson came unexpectedly and Pistons werent ready for it. But i guarantee Spurs will be. And the Spurs are more talented and more ready. I'm picking the Spurs in 5 games but it could easily go to 6 because i think Spurs could lose a game just becasue they dont play good offense and if it goes to 7 which i really doubt it will then Spurs will still win.
