Greg Oden could have (and probably would have) become one, maybe the Rookie of the Year, if it weren't for the knee surgery he had not too long ago. Now he's set to miss the upcoming season. It's a real downer for the Blazers and their fans, and probably for the NBA as well, since they placed a lot of hype around him and Kevin Durant.

The season is still some ways from starting, but I suspect there won't be many new contenders for title, aside from maybe the Celtics.

Garnett leads Boston to first preseason win.
KorS
Saw that news. Good start by Boston against Toronto with Garnett getting double double. I (my biased opinion) still think Nets will take the Atlantic Division title as Boston will definitely need time to gel but we'll see.

I can't wait for the new season to start for the Nets. With Kidd still playing like his usual self (Watched every match of US in FIBA and he was just unbelievable.), Carter doing his things and Jefferson claiming that his 100% fit and most of all, Nenad being back and signings of Magloire and Williams strengthening our front-court. I can honestly see us winning the division or at least fighting the division title with Celtics or Raptors and going at least to ECF.

We just signed Darrell Armstrong as well to back up Kidd while Marcus is injured.

And who knows, we might make few more signings/trades with the likes of Matrix, AK-47, Houston keep getting mentioned in the trade.
John Flushing
I happen to be a fan of New Jersey Nets myself.
Euromast.
I've been a Dallas Mavericks fan for years now... But let me ask one thing, what do people hate so much about the Mavs? There seems to be more hate towards them than any other team lately. Why? Is it because we are simply too good happy.gif ? But seriously, what is it. I've never understood it...
John Flushing
I hate Lakers and Pistons. I honestly never thought about directing hatred toward Dallas Mavericks.

Anyone knows how Derek Fisher's daughter (Tatum) is doing? I know that Tatum was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a cancerous tumor in her left eye.

"Fisher spent last season with the Jazz, playing in all 82 regular-season games. But during the playoffs, his infant daughter Tatum was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her left eye and Fisher left the team temporarily to accompany his wife Candace to New York to meet with a specialist about possible treatment.

Fisher returned to help the Jazz reach the Western Conference finals, then asked the club to release him with three years left on his contract so he could focus on getting his daughter the best medical care. The club complied, and he ended up signing a three-year, $14 million contract with the Lakers - the team he won three NBA titles with during his first eight years in the league."

Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen. All I can say is wow.

Indeed, and just think year ago from now; we were the worst team in the NBA practically. Now we only have 1 loss. Exit lousy Celtics, enter Domination.

Thus is true. Boston has won 16 championship trophies, including a stretch of time when they won every year for eight years in a row.

My New Jersey Nets have two A.B.A. titles under their belt, but since jumping ship to the N.B.A., the best trophies we have gotten are Eastern Conference trophies.

104-102 whistling.gif

Even though they lost to the Spurs last night, the Magic have generated quite a buzz here in Orlando. Just a few years ago, most people had stopped caring about the team, not least because of horrible managerial decisions (Grant Hill, anyone?). Now, the home games are actually selling out, for a change. And the hype surrounding the team is probably its biggest since the days of Shaq and Penny.

Hopefully I'll catch my fair share of games up in the cheap seats this season. clapping.gif
Wells
Indeed, it was 104-102. But take in mind that the last play, Garnett was fouled out and Pierce was given the ball. Pierce is a great shooter, not a clutch shooter. Ray Allen should have been put in the position of the final shot.

Other than that, Celtics haven't had a loss handed to them(besides the Magic). I agree, Orlando has caught my attention recently. Especially Dwight Howard, when they show him doing foulshots; I notice that he is an absolute tank. Garnett had a tough time dealing with him that game, hence 6 fouls.

Next time though, we're coming for you. the_finger.gif

dynasty means you've actually won something....

KG is a loser
Pierce is a whinner
Allen would rather get cash then championships (put KG in here too)

they got a 3 year window and are not gonna win anything of note...partly due to doc rivers, partly due to the choking stars

I'm not sure if you've ever been to Boston Garden, but if you ever go, you will see 16 banners hanging from the ceiling. 16 banners to represent 16 NBA titles. You will also see retired numbers, including; 14 for Bob Cousy, 33 for Larry Bird, 6 for Bill Russel, 00 for Robert Parish, 32 for Kevin McHale, 35 for Reggie Lewis, just to name a few. We also have memorabilia symbolizing the 19 Conference Titles that we've won, also 25 Division titles. And now you're telling me, we haven't won anything? We aren't a dynasty?
Carl_Monday
what does the stuff you've won in the sixties have to do with the today's team????
Wells
A dynasty defines an organization as a whole, not just a current squad.

But responding to your post, we've been undefeated up until the 18th and still maintain the best record so far. How can you start calling us out when the season has just begun.
Carl_Monday
you yourself called them a dynasty with not even a quarter of the regular season gone...don't get mad when people call you out
Wells
Like I said, Boston Celtics are a dynasty. I never mentioned anything to do with this season transforming us into one, we've always been one.

are the cleveland browns a dynasty for winning 5 championships in a row and 8 overall back in the 50's and 60's??
Wells
I don't know much about American Football nor it's history, so I couldn't tell ya.
John Flushing
My New York Islanders had a dynasty in the early 1980s, several years before I was born. We won four straight Stanley Cups, but were thwarted by Edmonton Oilers when we tried to win a fifth one.

We have never won the Stanley Cup in my lifetime, and Boston has not won a Championship Trophy in my lifetime either.

In other news, it is worth noting that the voting has officially begun, for who you want to see play in the N.B.A. All Star Game (here is a direct link to the ballot). Unfortunately, they require you to register to vote, something that they did not require of you in past years.

This is voting for an All Star Game. This is not an election where people are running for political office. Having to register to vote for something trivial like this is very, very annoying. ranting.gif

The Dynasty just got Lebronned.
Wells
Don't worry about it, still top of the league with the best record.
John Flushing
My goodness. Wells you have the most fantastic signature ever. If I had to rate it on a scale of one to ten, it would receive a ten, no question.
Wells
Why thank you.
If I could rate Steve Nash as a player on a skill of 1-10, I would give him an 11.

That's very true, however, he does make up for a lot of it by his assists and constant scoring.

This is my 1300th forum post.

Okay people, I have taken the time to vote for who I want to see play in the 2008 N.B.A. All Star Game. Here is a direct link to the ballot. The annoying thing is that they require you to register to vote, which is something that I think is downright ridiculous. I am choosing players for an All Star Game. I am not choosing who the next Governor of New York will be.

Furthermore, the ballot is very horribly designed. It took me quite some time to figure out exactly how to use it.

Here is a listing of the players whom I chose.

Western Conference
Forwards
Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks
Kenyon Martin, Denver Nuggets (write-in vote)

Center:
Marcus Camby, Denver Nuggets

Guards:
Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns
Manu Ginobili, Spurs

Eastern Conference
Forwards:
Richard Jefferson, New Jersey Nets
Antonio McDyess, Fort Wayne Pistons

Center:
Nenad Krstic, New Jersey Nets

Guards:
Jamal Crawford, New York
Stephon Marbury, New York

Basketball is one of the biggest reasons why I look forward to Christmas Day every single year.

I got done watching the Cleveland Cavaliers/Miami Heat game yesterday. I believe that it was the first time in a couple of years that Kobe's team has not played against Shaquille O'Neal's new team. As fun as it was to see Lakers/Miami Heat, I think that I would have become completely sick of it if they had done it again this year.

Anyways, the final score was Cleveland 96-82 Miami. Lebron James was Cleveland's leading scorer with 25 points.

The other scores on Christmas Day were Lakers 122-115 Phoenix Suns, and Portland Trail Blazers 89-79 Seattle Sonics.

With his 3-pointer from the right wing at 11:08 in the 3rd quarter against the Knicks on Sunday morning, Kobe Bryant became the youngest player in NBA history to surpass the 20,000 point mark

The teams I dislike the most are Lakers and Pistons, therefore my ballot has a certain amount of bias against those teams in it, unfortunately. That explains why none of my ballots have Ben Wallace or Shaquille O'Neal in them either.
Carl_Monday
yeah, it's because both of them suck this year
