Answer the question and say why ^^
Lorenzo.

ATM it has to be Juninho. Every second freekick he takes is in. He can curle the ball in and he can also just hammer it to the net. Just unstopable.

juninho too

Juninho is the best and Riquelme 2nd for me but he aint on the list. Assuncao and Yildrim are meant to be great freekick takers as well.

Juninho, the guy scores free kicks so consistently, not only that, but hey are brilliant free kicks as well. IMO Pirlo should be on that list as well as he is also a great free kick taker, however, neither of them compare to Zico.

Yeah I forgot him...
I know I was missing a good player in the list but I couldn't remember who
Though I don't think Pirlo is in the top 5
My top 5 :
1. Juninho
2. Beckham
3. Lampard
4. Henry
5. Ronaldinho

Juninho and DEco are my favourite FK takers.. voted on Juninho since Deco isn't in there. I hope he start taking more of those at Barcelona, so people can start to see the "light". (maybe today)

Nov 19 2005, 11:55 PM
JUNINHO .... no doubt ... he is the BEST freekicker at the moment
The number he scored this year already equal to 2,3 years of the likes Beckham, Ballack, Ronaldinho ...
Lampard? Hmm I would not reate him ... at all

I'd have to go with Juninho first and then Beckham. Lampard is good but too predictable, everyone knows hes just going to run up and pound it as hard as he can.

Juninho, without a doubt. His goal per free-kick ratio is amazing. Beckham, yes in the past but not now. Ronaldinho, Henry and Pirlo deserve credits as well. Mihajlovic is great too, remember him scoring a hat-trick of free-kicks in a match.

Wasn't there a thread exactly the same as this? I voted for beckham anyway, cos he made taking freekicks into an art form. He has superb technique, and revolutionised the way freekicks were taken.

Nov 20 2005, 03:18 AM
Well Beckham really didnt revolutionize it seeing as how his technique is based on his having one leg shorter that the other, soooo that doesn't apply. But Juninho is the best at the moment, Mihajlovic up there as well. Also Lampard shouldn't be on there, he usually will shoot to the side uncovered and goalies usually stop him, only when the wall is badly set up, or a rolling pass shot is when he usually scores, (or when a goalie is too stupid to cover the side his wall isn't covering).

Juninho Beckham and Mihalovic are the best for sure.
Totti is the only player who can hit with power (LONG RANGE)( like carlos) and with accuracy like (shortrange)(beckham)

Juninho at Lyon is one of the best, but my personal favourite is Henry. See his freekick against Wigan yesterday, simply unstoppable. I also admire Beckham's trade mark curlers

Youve forgotten Assuncao and Mihalovic, 2 of the very best.
Only one better than them is Juninho of course.
EDIT, oh I forgot Henry, I think hes 3rd best.

I would have to say Juninho. I think he is the one that can shot from different angles and takes different types of kicks, not like Beckham who has just one type of kick.
Ronaldinho is second to me. I think many underrate him in freekicks cause it isnīt his best ability. It seems that those players that are titled the kickers are those who can do almost nothing else and therefore their freekick ability gets probably more credit than it should.
Beckham has always been titled a freekick specialist although he hasnīt had the same form since he played for Man Utd(there he was superb).
Mihajlovic will probably play until he is 50 or something. He is a sub that comes into the field to take a freekick. That has always been is only world class quality and he gets alot of credit for it.
Juninho is not just like that but.... he is the best free kick taker, he has great passing ability but nothing more in my opinion. He is just a middle class player apart from these two abilities. That doesnīt make him a worse player, I am not saying that...just saying that he doesnīt have many qualities but those he has are GOOD....
Ronaldinho is a different example. he is the best player in the world. he can dribble, pass, shoot, free kick...there is almost nothing he canīt do....he is maybe not a fantastic header.... but because he has so many WORLD CLASS abilities then his free kick donīt get the credit the deserve. He has scored out of so many free kicks this season that I think noone can argue that he isnīt 2nd behind Juninho.
I would also like to add that Thierry Henry is also a fantastic free kick specialist. But like Ronnie he has so many other attributes that this quality doesnīt get the credit it deserves....

Juninho is surely the best freekicker right now he already scored 5 goals ... out of freekick for Brazil + Lyon

Juninho without a doubt.. He scores like everywhere.. Sometimes I'm thinking something like '' no way, he is not scoring from there'' and uups the ball is in the net!
Assuncao is also great freekicker.
Henry scores some nice freekicks.
Beckhams freekicks in his prime were like from heaven. I really hope, that he founds that again.

i voted for beckham because he adds power and accuracy. i dont see much of the french league and juninho so i dont know much about him but ive seen clips of him and i agree is pretty good.

Juninho is so good at free kicks. Every time the ball is stationary outside the box, he is scoring. Frankly, I have never seen him miss!

I don't agree with what Helgi said.
Just watch a complete french league game or -better- a CL game... Juninho is not all about free-kicks. He's great midfield and playmaker, the ball sticks to his foot and his dribbles are quite nice. He has vision and great passing.
I advise you all to watch the game this week against Real Madrid and you will see that he's superb, even against the big guns.
The extra thing with Juninho is that when he steps up to take a free-kick you're almost sure it's in the back of the net...

Juninho. His free kicks are just spectacular. He can power them high into corners with pin-point accuracy. Or bend it around a wall or make it go over the wall and dip down to the bottom corner or blast it right through the wall.
And Beckham did not revolutionize the free kick. Players like Maradona, Zico, Zidane have all been taking spectacular free kicks like Beckham's before Beckham's time.

hey how about pirlo? IF you ask me every time he apporaches the ball he sends it through. Beckham is defintely not the best because his rate is just not good enough. Pirlo, Nad Juninho have the power and the touch if necessary

I wud like to disagree with the majority opinion,
It gotta be mihjailovic for his consistency
my top 3 are
1. mihjailovic (consistency)
2. Stoichkov ( amazing free kick against germany in US'94)
3.maradona ( that magical left foot)
juninho is good may be the best currently but he as to prove over a period of time ..then he can be the best..

Juninho is the best at the moment, there is no doubting that. When people mention that its Beckham then i feel like kicking myself . Hes scored like one this season and like 2 the year before. The best in history is Yugoslavias own Sinisa Mihajlovic. This cant be argued!! Only player in history to score a hatrik of goals from free kiks. He was a legend!! Even when he was playin for Zvezda when they won the Champions League he was crashin them in as a 21 year old.

I would go for Mihajlovic, Juninho and Riquelme, in that order. All three have incredible free kicks, and are all damn consistant, using pretty much the same technique, dip+curl into the corners (rather than people like Lampard/R.Carlos), but Mihajlovic excels in technique and consistancy compared to the other two, and Juninho is more consistant I think, over Riquelme. Not much difference at all, and always a joy to watch them take free-kicks.
