Arsène Wenger will make a handful of changes for tomorrow night's Champions League game against FC Thun and give key players time to shrug off minor knocks.
Gilberto, Jens Lehmann and Kolo Toure all started at Wigan on Saturday but have not travelled. Wenger explained why before his squad left for Switzerland this afternoon.
"The players who are out have knocks," he said. "Gilberto has an ankle problem and Kolo Toure played twice with the Ivory Coast before the Wigan game.
"Jens Lehmann had a little back problem before Wigan but he could have played [against Thun]."
In their absence, Wenger will recall Jose Antonio Reyes, who watched from the bench at the JJB Stadium. The Arsenal manager also suggested that some of the Club's young prospects will get a chance to shine.
"Mathieu Flamini may play and also maybe Alexandre Song. Emmanuel Eboue may also get a start. Jose Antonio Reyes will play and start."
Ashley Cole, Gael Clichy and Alexander Hleb are still out injured, while Dennis Bergkamp has not made the trip to Switzerland.
Arsenal squad:
7. Robert PIRES
8. Freddie LJUNGBERG
9. Jose Antonio REYES
11. Robin VAN PERSIE

yeh despite Arsenal resting a few players, still should have enough quality for Thun, but we shall see as they did make it tough for us at Highbury. My lineup....
Almunia
Eboue
Campbell
Senderos
Lauren
Ljungberg
Flamini
Song
Pires
Reyes
Van Persie
Arsenal to win this 2-0, goals from Van Persie and Ljungberg. Good chance for the likes to Song and Eboue to impress, and Lupoli if he comes on. The game doesnt meanto much but a win always helps

This game does mean a lot. Although we are qualified, if we finish on top of the group by winning this match then we'll be seeded with easier teams to play in the next round.
Wenger wants to give some players a chance but also wants to make sure we finish first. I think it'll go like this;
-----------------------------Alumnia------------------------------
Lauren-----------Senderos-----------Cambell------------Eboue
Ljunberg------------Flamini-----------Song---------------Reyes
-------------------------RVP---------Henry----------------------
Subs;
Lupoli (RVP)
Pires (Reyes)
"I want to see one or two players but I don't want to play a Carling Cup side," he said. "I would like to see Song and, if I can, Emmanuel Eboué, but all the others will be first-team players. We want to do the job well and finish top of the group." - Wenger

I'm pretty sure Henry is playing because he is going for record appearances in Europe for Arsenal, done by Seaman.
Should be a good game and a great indicator to where our youngsters are at right now. Can't wait to see Song in action if he hopefully gets more than 2 mins.

I hope he leaves Arsenal and becomes so famous elsewhere. Wenger has absolutely no faith in him!

hate to say it but it seems we will have to create a lot of our chances through the wide men tonight with Flamini and Song in the middle. But we will see how it goes. Hopefully we can get at least a point to secure top spot

NP.
It's still going great for me.
As for the game, we never truly created any chances so far and i think they had more possession.
WHAT A PASS.
PENALTY AND RED CARD vs. Thun for the foul vs. RVP.
NVP - just a freekick! Damn him. It could have been a goal. Thank god he got a red.

the guy CLEARLY denied van Persie of a scoring opportunity

Nov 22 2005, 03:31 PM
LMAO....Did you see Eboue's fake and run? Too bad he lost the ball.
Half - time. Only created one clear chance where RVP was fouled.
Other than that, nothing exciting. The midfield is not creating any chances. Even though Flamini and Song are doing a decent job, they're never passing forward to create chances for RVP and Henry. Only one who does that is when the defence kicks it up. Impressed with Eboue - i think Song still needs more time in the reserves but we'll see how it goes in thes second half.
Fabregas is available right?

These officials need glasses though

Song has played pretty well. Made some excellent tackles. Only thing is he is a bit slow on the dribble after the first touch control.
Reyes has made some nice long switch passes, the first one to v.Persie was no way offside. Robbery.
Henry has been ok, nothing special.
...and Cygan is a wanker. I can't stand that guy.

Nov 22 2005, 03:39 PM
eh so far it's ok...nothing spectacular...cmon Wenger work your magic and show us some real nice football in second half!

Nov 22 2005, 03:42 PM
the first half wasn't too impressive but its Arsenal, a very good team, so i am sure they will win it though even a draw would be enough for them.
respect to Thun for another good half vs Arsenal

Just get the feeling it's only a matter of time before the first goes in and then maybe they'll a couple more after that.
Van Persie looks very liekly to get it.

Nov 22 2005, 03:50 PM
yea scoring the first goal is always the toughest for us, but after we break through that, things come more easily and we always look more likely to score again. I'm putting my money on van Persie being the first to score.
