I picked from who i've seen the most, and as ESPN normally only shows Barça or Madrid games, they're the players I see most apart from a few Betis/Villareal/Valencia games.

GK: Casillas wins this easily, has a weak defence in front of him yet saves Madrid's ass over and over again.
RB: Oleguers been solid as of recent, but Gallas wins this.
CB: PUYOL! Faster, only thing Terry has on him is probably his in-the-air abilities
CB Campbell, stronger, more experience, proven.
LB: Heinze, a real battler, and decent up front as well.
RM: Joaquin, probably not recently, but overall, a better winger. More effective.
CM: Eesh..as a biased fan i'd say Xavi, but Gerrard has carried Liverpool on his back many many times.
CAM: Ronaldinho..Lampard..eesh..endless debate?
LM: Robben is capable of much more than Vicente in the future, but on current form i'd say Vicente.
ST: Eto'o. Scored more. Does what a striker needs to do.
ST: Henry, on current form. Based on the past you'd say Ronaldo, but Henry I think is an overall better player.

I decided to have a bit off fun with the pel lineup it was getting a bit repetitive. So I tried somthing new in terms of formation.

This is indeed old, but many things have changed since this thread started so I'll post my XI for each based on the season's performances (or in Xavi's case, faith ).

Casillas is the best GK in the world, I think I don't need to explain myself on this one.

Cicinho would run back and forth 3 times before Gallas has a chance to realize he has lost the ball.

Yet Gallas is stronger defensively, so this is a tough one (draw)

Ramos is simply outstanding, and smarter in attack than Terry.

CB

Cannavaro was the 2nd best CB in the world cup... this man is truly classy

LB

At this point I have to give it to Heinze, he is class, Roberto is fading away

RM

Joaquin has all the flare C. Ronaldo has bar his diving and crying. Much more of a solid player, and very very fast, I think Joaquin takes this one hands down.

CM

This is a tough one... Gerrard is simply outstanding when it comes to attacking, but he is not as classy as it comes to passing the ball as Xavi is... I think this is a draw.

CAM

To be honest, being effective and being a master of tricks with a ball are two different things.

After this years WC, I am not so sure about Dinho, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt and award the win to him.

LM

Vicente has been inconsistent as of late, and Robben is probably the best out of the two.

ST

I take RVN, he has more experience, and is level headed. He is not as likely to get thrown out of the game as Rooney is.

ST

Although Villa is more of a LF, he can perform as a striker, but no one is a better striker in the world at this point that Henry, and that is a fact.



La Liga wins by a little bit.

There are other teams/players apart from Madrid+Barca and players like Joaquin and Villa. Anyway here are my teams. Like Imo both Miguel and Dani Alves are better right backs to Cicinho and Oleguer. And Carlos(in present), don't make me laugh with players like Pernia, Antonio Lopez, Zambrotta etc.

Henry doesn't like to be a lone striker but I thought that would be the best formation to try out, the Liverpool 3 in midfield would be very hard to break through. As for who I think would win out of my two teams? I really don't know, I reckon the La Liga team might just have the edge.

7 Real Madrid players but not one Barcelona player.

Of course it is the best.

Well who would you replace in my team in my formation for a Barcelona player.

Puyol for Ramos. Ronaldinho for Cassano. Eto'o for Van Nilsterooy. Messi for Robinho maybe? Or Riquelme for Robinho. There are better AM's than Robinho and Cassano. There are also better Dms than Emerson.

Puyol's position in the team is filled by Cannavaro, he is the rock at the back, in order to have the defence fully effective we need a pacey center back to keep up with the fast and skillfull players, that is why I have put Ramos in ahead of Puyol.

Van Nistlerooy fills that role better than Eto'o because Ruud is a solid finisher, his positioning and finishing in the box is better than Eto'o's. Eto'o is more skillfull, more dynamic and more versitile but we have them roles covered by the two creative CF who play behind Van Nistlerooy.

Cassano needs to keep his place because his finishing skills, his poweful runs and his skill they suit that role, maybe Ronaldinho for Robinho.

Who is better than Emerson in La Liga, I currently only know of Emerson and Edmilson and I would take Emerson.

Puyol could, and should take Ramos' place. There are more better CBs in La Liga than Ramos. Marquez, Gonzalo, Milito, Ayala, Thuram, Albiol...

Eto'o is a better striker than Ruud. And is much more complete. Villa is even better than Ruud ATM. Especially since Ruud has not played a game in La Liga.

Cassano is not close to the level of some other AMs. Riquelme, Aimar, Messi...Could instead take his place.

Edmilson, Senna, Oubina have all played better than Emerson has in the last three years.

Step out of football manager and into reality.

Albiol?? Thuram??? Gonzalo??? Ayala???? Marquez????? Maybe in 5 years Albiol and Gonzalo might have a chance if they progress and Sergio Ramos stays at the same level he is at now. Puyol and Milito have a chance but with the addition of Cannavaro the only CB pair in the world that can compare to that are Terry and Gallas but even still Cannavaro and Ramos beats them, if we were to take Ramos out the next person in line is Woodgate.

Okay, I don't agree with your inclusion of Ramos entirely but he is a really good and classy defender so it is acceptable. But to say that Woodgate would be next in line is the most bullshit I've ever heard. I think you need to close your game of football manager. What has Woodgate done in his career to belong in a team like this? Ayala, Milito, Gonzalo, Pablo, Puyol, Perea, Juanito, Marquez, Andrade, Thruram and Albiol have proved that they are more deserving.

To be blunt I Emerson isn't that spectacular. He is a good player who gets his job done. He acheives quietly. Borja Oubiña is a different kind of a player to him though so not really that fair to compare. Although I think that over the next season Borja will show everyone how much class he has. Not to mention everyone will see the mighy Rivas in action for sociedad next season. Albelda would be worth a shout there too.

For all Cassano has done at Madrid we could say that not only Ronaldinho etc. But Silva, Cani etc are more deserving. Talent aside.

At this moment in time I say that Villa and Eto'o have quite a bit up on van Nistlerooy. But I suppose this season we'll see.

trust me mate if you had seen Woodgate when fit for Newcastle or Leeds you would have known he is a far better centre back then Ramos is or the likes of Pablo,Perea,Juanito, Gonzalo, Milito... are. When Euro 2004 was abt to start & Woodgate was making his way back from a loooong injury he was challenging John Terry for the spot in England lineup as Sol was injured but then again as always Woody got injured. Woodgate is superb centre back, hopefully you will see more of him this season and let me see if you still stand by the phrase you wrote above after you see him on a regular basis.

On to the topic although i am a Madridista i gotta admit Puyol > Ramos.

Well I saw quite a bit of him at Newcastle and Leeds. No doubt he was a very talented young centre back who was one of the best in the English league. But I still maintain those other defenders I have mentioned are in the same bracket as he is. Not to mention that Woodgate's current state he'll be lucky to stay in the game for another 3 years. His body is simply shocking and he has been quite unfortunite. At this moment in time I'll take them over him.

i was thinking about throwing in other players from other teams, (for the record i am not a barca fan), but messi,dinho and etoo makes any team they are so great, i am not a huge puyol fan and i was thinking milito should get a call but puyal has been apart of a laliga backline that has let in the least amount of goals the past 2 seasons.
Deco over requelme because i do not think requelme could play with dinho. Deco last season was great, so far this season he has not but who do you pick over deco to play with dinho.
Vicente hasnt been the same player since the injury 2 years ago and jauquin was poor last year.
Marquez should be barca dmid, senna like him and he would be my 2nd choice
I am not big on many laliga left backs, but i had to pick one so i went with the easy choice. Zambrotta is a good player not great so i went with him.

Goalkeeper: Ignoring the injury, i'd take Cech over Casillas. Some of the saves Cech has made since coming to England have been absolutely amazing, not taking anything away from Casillas but i rate Cech over him

Defence: It take the La Liga defence over the Premiership defence unless the opposition was in the premier league as i believe the two full-backs from La Liga are far superior to the EPL full backs however the centre backs are equal as Puyol and Cannavaro are a bit short which means against someone from the EPL where the long ball is employed more i would think the small stature of the two La Liga centrebacks would be a problem whilst Gallas and Terry would be better off. However against any other opposition i think the two sets of centre backs are equal

Midfield: I chose a much more centrally based midfield for La Liga as they were the best midfielders i could think of and i think they would work well like that with Riquelme spraying balls and ronaldinho playing the free-attacking role whilst Xavi and Senna make tackles and also play passes. With the EPL i believe there are superior wings to what the La Liga has to offer as C.Ronaldo and Robben are the two best wings in the world in terms of trickery and being able to beat their man and put in a cross. I believe the two midfields are equal however in what they both offer as the EPL midfield offers much more power and pace however the La Liga midfeld offer much mroe technical skill.

Forwards: I think this is fairly equal too as i rate Henry over Eto'o and Villa over Rooney. Working together i think Henry and Rooney would work better together as Rooney is the playmaker forward who is equally good at lying deep or moving up forward and he would be great at setting up Henry whilst the La Liga strikers are both great finishers however i dont think there is that playmaker like Rooney.

RB: Alves is the better dribbler but richards is more accomplished defensively and his speed and power make him the better choice

RCB: No contest, Puyol is a top class defender but Terry is simply inspirational and a great threat from set pieces.

LCB: Cannavaro wins it hands down. Although king has the potnetial to become the best defender in England Cannavaro is much more accomplished and is in a rich vein of form at the moment.

LB: Ca$hl£y wins this one, although both similiar players, cole is the better natural left back.

RM: Lennon is an exciting talent no doubt, but Joaquin has played at the highest level for a lot longer and easily wins this one.

RCM: Got too be Gerrard on this one, Diarra does his job better than anybody in the world. But I know hwo I would rather have in my team.

LCM: Cesc has potential to be a true great but at the moment R10 is head and shoulders above him at the moment.

LM: Messi just edges this one, Robben is a great talent but Messi just has that extra bit of magic for me.

ST: Torres is a great striker but he doesn't have the fighting spirit of Rooney, who just wins this one.

ST: Henry has been consistantly brilliant but has hit a really poor run of form and has fallen out with his manager whilst Villa has gone from strength to strength. It's the Spaniard that gets this one.

Hands down Casillas, not because I am a Madrid fan, but because He is fcuking brilliant!

RB: (Ramos vs. G.Neville)
Ramos again, Gary Neville is a great player and I like him alot, but Sergio Ramos is one of if not the best RB in the world, its a shame that Capello doesnt play him there more.

Woody vs Canna:
I think Woodgate is one of the best defenders in the Premiership and if only he could stay fit he would prove this to all and go back to the English NT, but i will pick Canna on this... Ballon D'or... enough said.

Terry vs Puyol:
A tough match, Puyol is better defensively, but Terry is better offensively, id have to say a draw.

LB: (A.Cole vs. Zambrotta)
Zambrotta was amazing at Juve and in the WC, yes he plays RB for Barça, but only because Gio is there although LB is his true and original position. Id pick Zambrotta for this as he is immense moving down the flanks and would be a great partner having Ramos on the other side.

RM: (C.Ronaldo vs. Beckham)
Beckham is a great player and although he gets alot of crap nowadays, id still pick him, unfortunatley though Cristiano is a bit younger and i feel is better at running at defenders, kinda like Joaquín used to be, but id picl C.Ronaldo on this one.

CM: (Diarra vs. Gerrard)
Even though i love Diarra, id have to say Gerrard for obvious reasons.

(Guti vs. Lampard)
Guti is one of my favorite midfielders, but Lampard is amazing... so unfortunatley id have to go with Frank.

LM: (Ronaldinho vs. Robben)
As much as I dont like Ronaldinho, id have to say him.

ST: (Drogba vs. Villa)
Villa is an amazing striker and is underrated compared to Drogba.

Henry is a great player and a bit more all around than Eto'o, so id say Henry.

GK - I think that Cech is a better goalkeeper than Casillas and I know that is a very bold statement but I really beleive that he is. Casillas is a lot shorter than Cech and that is a big disadvantage in the goalkeeper role.

RB - G. Nev is a much more consistent player than Belleti but the latter is not as bad as a player that some people take him to be. He can attack very good and he can defend decently. Nev wins it though.

CB - That is by far the toughest comparison I had ever had to do. I can't produce an answer. Both are terrifically good defenders.Maybe due to the fact that Puyol can also play right back could make him win this comparision but then again Terry scores much more than Puyol does with headers at corners so I say even.

CB - Thuram has much more experience than Vidic and is still a great defender but Vidic is not a bad defender at all. Thuram wins it.

LB - Roberto Carlos wins it due to his large experience and great outside shot, but right now I'd say Heinze is playing better.

LM - Giggs is more consistent than Vicente who in my opinon is somewhat of an injury prone. Also has more experience. Giggsy wins it.

RM - Joaquin dribbles a bit better in my opinion and he can go on runs and not lose the ball eventually like C.Ronaldo does because Joaquin would produce the cross or pass or even shot that is needed of him.

CM - Gerrard runs more than Xavi I think but I'm not so sure that he can hold the midfield as well as Xavi. The outside shots of Gerrard win this one for him though.

CAM - Ronnie's just better. It's a tough comparison, but Ronnie is better.

ST - Rooney is a power player. He produces something out of nothing while Eto'o is also a good player and has scored some cracking goals but I think Rooney is better.


ST - Henry takes this one on experience but in a few years we might be able to say that Villa has been a better player throughout his career if he continues at the rate he played last and somewhat of this season.

I think these two teams would really test each other. Beckham having his very accurate crosses along with Riquelme and Ronaldinho.The Premier league side would prove a tough opponent for the La Liga side with it having a plethera of skill and width which could be deadly for the EPL side.
