Giacomo Galanda and Gianluca Basile led Italy to a 95-78 win over the U.S. on Tuesday. It was an amazing game, with the Italians leading all the time. Italy had 6 BANKED three pointers!!!!!!! 11 three pointers in all. VIVA l'ITALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just because you have top players doesn't mean you're gonna win
I think Chelsea needs a lesson about that
The USA team has no teammork
but I think after a few more games and lots more practice they will be the best once again.

I believe the European influence on basketball is growing, if we look at the statistics, its pretty evident that the number of EU players in the NBA league is growing every season!
I believe foreign players are more likely to stick with the fundementals of basketball than the home grown talent here in the US!
We've also seen a steady change in the games played by the "Dream Team" they no longer seem to be winning by 20-30 points...as a matter of fact they seem to have a tough time winning at that!
EU players are more likely to stick with the fundemenntals like I said; lay ups, zone defense, team work, none are really hungry to be a 1 man team.
US stars are being paid a lot..it builds their ego and they want to steal the show...its gonna come back to bite them in the ass!

This is not the best US team. Not at all. Besides, we'll still take home gold.
No doubt, this was an ass whooping. Plain and simple. However, ass whoopings happen to even the best teams. The U.S. will take the gold in hoops. Simple as.

this is the most lopsided game the u.s. team has ever lost. but the u.s. will find its stride and they will win the gold. when brazil loses a friendly before a world cup, do they shit their pants? no.
and the u.s. is fielding a very young team of stars, not nba stars. although lebron, wade, carmelo, stademiere are good, they are not the best in the league. all but 2 of the original core members of the team have quit for some reason or another, duncan and iverson. once they mess, they will do very well. and larry brown is no schmuck of a coach either. if the pistons can beat the lakers in 5, then larry can coach the u.s.

no question, the Unites States will be the favorites, but if you rememberthe 2000 Mens basketball world cup...when Yugoslavia beat the US in the final? Is that when that happened?
but anyway, I remember it happening...and the gap is going to keep closing...IMO!

I agree, the gap will continue to close as the popularity of basketball increases....

the gap is closing, but if the u.s. team ever fielded its best again, it would be barca 92 all over again. unfortunately, with the timing of the olympics and the amount of money in the nba, i'm not sure that there will ever be a dream team again. u.s. players don't care about a gold metal, its not an honor for them. they want money, and you don't get that in the olympics, but you do run the risk of getting hurt, which is not worth the risk.

just as brazil won the copa america with a "B" team, the u.s. will do the same, except their "B" team is better than the brazil "B" team that won the copa. and the teams in the olympics are not as at basketball as south american teams in the copa are as good at football.
i think the u.s. will regain their status as the top in the world in basketball, and its hard, even with this team, to best against them. i went to college with dwyane wade and he is phenominal, as the nba found out this year. they just need time to gel and figure out this is a team tournament, and not individual talent wins the game like in the nba. but mr. team basketball coach larry brown will do the job.

I think the Argies will take gold. Mark my words!
USA get silver. This team is not really a "team" to me yet, they are just young induvidual stars. LeBron, Wade, Stoudamire, etc. are all used to being the bulding pionts of their NBA teams. They are young, talented and have a big ego. They are going to have to learn to share the ball. This team is nothing like the 92' Dream Team, the 92 team were unstoppable, because they played team basketball and used their solo talent as well.
I don't think Larry can coach this team the way he did the Sixers or the Pistions. Remember, it took Brown a bit to get the Pistons as "his team" and then real sucsess came. In the Olympic Tournament, he has got a couple of exhibition games and then maybe 8 games at the most at Athens.
We will see though. I just want to see another country win gold because it is about time. Too bad Canada didn't qualify, we did well in Sydney. But we kick ass in baseball believe it or not, one of the favourites.

lebron and wade do not have big ego's. lebron may know he's one of the best, but he and wade optimize team basketball--passing, defense, assists, playing hard, passing on the credit. there is only one true ball hog on this team and thats iverson. tim duncan, lebron and wade are THE team players. i'm not really sure where you got the notion that this is an individual team of ego super stars. this is probably the least ego-minded usa team in recent memory. all the ego's stayed home. this is a team that was organized to play as a team. if anything, they don't have enough selfish type true point guards. i really think you're overstating this here.
