We're making a huge charge towards the finals series

Geez, it's starting to piss me off that none of the "experts" rate Hawthorn as a serious Premiership contender. We're second after the split round and we've beaten Geelong, West Coast and Port. The only other good teams we haven't played yet are Adelaide and Collingwood. We were even able to beat a team who was in good form by 100 points without our leading goalkicker. What more do we have to do

Jun 26 2007, 03:22 AM
What the hell is Collingwood trying to do with Rocca's suspension? David Hille did it a couple of weeks ago and he got a week. Hopefully they fail and he gets 2, then he'll miss the Hawthorn match which will be awesome.

I'm glad Rocca failed. Bastard.
It's not a big shock to me that Daniher quit. They lost to Richmond, they're second last and they have one of he older lists in the AFL. He's fleeing a sinking ship.

Yeah Rocca was never going to get off. Not that big a shock about Daniher either given what their chairman said after the game last week.

It feels so good when someone beats Collingwood. It's even better when it's Hawthorn, and last week I posted that none of the so-called "experts" rated Hawthorn as a serious Premiership contender. The teams that they think have the best chance of winning are West Coast, Geelong, Collingwood and Adelaide. 3 out of 3 so far. Adelaide next week in Adelaide. People should start jumping on the Hawthorn bandwagon if we beat Adelaide which I actually doubt but is very possible.
The only thing about Hawthorn beating these teams is that they've been missing key players(except for Geelong) and we've been very good with injuries. In the West Coast game they were missing Kerr and Ashley Hansen(Tinkerbell) and Collingwood were missing their backline and Rocca. I'm only worried about the finals where we'll be inexpeirienced and the other teams will have full-strength teams.
Also the commentary during the match on Fox Sports couldn't have been more for Collingwood if they tried. It was seriously crap.

I hate the Fox Sports camera angles for AFL as doesn't look pro at times. Felt sorry for Daniher in his last game but that's the way it goes sometimes. Will be interesting to see who coaches them next season.

Load of rubbish if you ask me. The tribunal/match review system has basically been turned into a lottery this season - and I thought the previous system was bad ...

Ran out of legs.
Stanton and Winderlich, our two quickest (and two of our best!) midfielders were both outs; Davey and Hird came off injured mid-game and we were just spent by 3/4 time.
Brave effort for three quarters though.

Even though I love Hawthorn so much, I hate them so f**king much right now. They were an absolute disgrace. I stopped watching after half time. Sure it was wet but it was just crap. We better absolutely annihilate Richmond next week.

4 goals in 4 quarters. You have every right to be disgusted. Brisbane winning against West Coast was a massive shock. Geelong are suddenly finding themselves a few points clear now.

I was on the AFL site today and I looked at the U-18 Championship scores and this guy who goes to my school scored seven and he's a midfielder. His name is Cyril "Junior" Rioli and he is a name to watch. Absolutey freaky freak. Be top ten in draft.
There's Only One United
Jul 10 2007, 09:24 AM
Any relation to Dean Rioli by any chance?
I never go on the AFL site, mainly because i don't really have much of an interest in AFL to bother checking it but tried to go there a few times to check live scores and it's so damn slow even though i've got a fast connection. Others have said the same as well.

Even though they probably weren't going to make the finals this year, the board shouldn't have said your gone. It's only the last 2 years that they've been good, the board can't expect them to be awesome this year and easily make the finals. They only made them last year because they had that brilliant run through the 2nd half of the season.
There's Only One United
Jul 18 2007, 01:59 AM
Was expected he'd go. Results were unacceptable as they have a great sqaud so to not make the finals is really bad. Don't know if the handled it well though. String rumour Pavlich may be leaving to at years end as is out of contract.

Kevin Sheedy has been dumped as Essendon coach, with the AFL club's board deciding not to offer him a new contract.
The momentous decision was announced on Wednesday, although Sheedy said he had known for much of the year that 2007 would probably be the last of his 27th seasons in charge at Windy Hill.
Sheedy, 59, will stay at the helm for the remainder of the season, with the 10th-placed Bombers still in contention for a finals berth.
Bob Loblaw
Jul 25 2007, 06:03 AM
The game isn't going to be the same without Sheedy. I don't go for the Bombers but he is a true legend of the game. Does he have the record for the most games coached? I think he has the record for most games played/coached but I'm not sure about coached alone.

Naturally the rumours are going around of a return to Richmond to replace Wallace but they're denying it and it seems they're keen to get him there in another role anyway.
QUOTE
Richmond president Gary March will contact Kevin Sheedy about a possible return to the Tigers, but not as senior coach.
With the Tigers currently rooted to the bottom of the ladder, the pressure on incumbent coach Terry Wallace was expected to increase after Essendon sacked Kevin Sheedy after 27 years at the helm.
As a 251-game, triple-premiership star at the Tigers, Sheedy has long been linked with a return to Punt Rd.
March said that Sheedy, 59, would be considered for an ambassadorial role, a marketing position or even a seat on the Richmond board.
Everything it seems except the job of head coach.
"We've got a contracted coach for two more years, most of our assistant coaches are all contracted for at least another year or two and we've got a contracted director of football," March told AAP.
"So there's no real roles for Kevin in football at our club, in the forseeable future, but is there a role for him back at Richmond? Maybe in a non-football sense."
March said the club would make contact with Sheedy, but only when Essendon's season was over.
"Given that he is a Richmond legend, at some stage the club will definitely have a chat to him about what his future plans are," March said.
"It's not inconceivable that Kevin himself could become a president of a football club.
"I reckon there's a multitude of roles that our club, Essendon, or even the AFL could use Kevin Sheedy for."
March said the Richmond board had "no issues" with Wallace, whose team has slipped badly on the field after respectable mid-table finishes in the previous two years.
"Obviously we're really disappointed about the season that we've had and Terry is under pressure because of our performances but so are myself and everyone at the football because, as a club, have performed below expectations this year," March said.
"Terry doesn't need any reassurance from me, we've got a really healthy working relationship.
"I know exactly where he's at with his coaching at the moment and where the list's at."
"Not Kevin, not Denis (Pagan), not because of Chris Connolly or Neale Daniher.
"We're not in the market for a senior coach like those clubs were."

The Doggies have had their tates handed to them 2 weeks in a row now. I bet they're really starting to get worried now, they might miss out on the finals.
Is Jordan McMahon possibly the worst player the Dogs have? They keep playing him and he can't kick, mark or anything else except run. He is so crap and I would not be surprised to see him go at the end of the season.

Well, there goes Kouta. True champion of the game. It seems that this year everyone who was a legend is going, Kouta, Hird, Buckley(IMO), Sheedy, and in years to come, all of the other oldies will be gone.
There's Only One United
Jul 31 2007, 05:33 AM
Yeah i highly doubt it that Buckley will get back. As was said on the footy show the other night he has one more crack at it maybe and if he breaks down again he'll retire as his body has proven lately that it's not coping that well anymore.

But at least we know there is a good, young generation of players coming through. Buddy Franklin, Pendelbury, Selwood, Gibbs, Davey. All of these guys are young and incredibly talented so there will be more names etched in our minds for years to come.
