That was embarassing by Melbourne on Friday night. 2 goals in the first 3 quarters and at that stage Geelong had 19. With the crap weather I'm surprised they got the crowd tjat they did.

Trust me, most of them were only there because they couldn't be stuffed leaving after the Scotch College vs Melbourne Grammar game.

Bottom 8 finish for the tigers again. I actually thought we'd finally crack it this year sad.gif

It was great to see Crawf kick the last goal of the game yesterday, he has been a great player for the Hawks for so many years. Also can people no longer refer to anyone but Buddy as the best player in the league, or at least the best forward? Some of the shit he pulled off was unbelievable, especially considering he had 3/4 players on him most of the time.

Agreed. I would of been shattered if he missed it. And Buddy worshippy.gif His last goal was brilliant. He just pushed away something like 4 Brisbane players, then scored. Magical.

Collingwood-Sydney should be a good one tonight, although i think Swans will lose, last 7 it's been that way against the Pies.

the other night on the footy show when they were talking to Fevola about cracking the 100 goal milestone, Trevor goes "so who's going to crack the milestone first? Fev, Buddy or Melbourne" haha
Bob Loblaw
Well that tops the list for the best thing I've seen at the footy, beating Buddy's goal against Adelaide in the Elimination Final. I was there and it was just mental, the stewards opened the gates to let people on to the ground, people were sprinting from the top levels to get onto Level 1, and then to top it all off, someone had a sign which said "F*ck the AFL". All in all, it was a very good night.

Also it's funny because it's Fevola.

Bob Loblaw
It's quite humourous. In another, AFL based forum, which I will not name, the whole main section of it is Carlton supporters complaining about it was "un-sportsmen like" and "un-Australian" for Hawthorn to not let Fevola kick 100. Then there's the rest of the forum absolutely murdering them and telling them just how stupid they look, sound and, it seems, are.
Scousy
I agree with the Carlton supporters, I mean sure, don't purposely let him have it, but to put 4 men on him was just a shit thing to do.

Anyway, Richmond finish the season well with a mauling of Melbourne.
There's Only One United
Great effort by Buddy, almost got 100 points for the season as well to go with the 100 goals laugh.gif

Unlucky for Fev.

Wait but it was okay for them to put 4 men on Buddy? Anyway, I'm not even sure if that happened. At the very end of the last quarter when Roughead went down to the backline, Croad told him to f*ck off as it was only going to be mano e mano for the last bit. Plus one of the umpires gave Fev a free in the goal square so he had a chance of getting. That was poor.

And isin't the idea of playing football to stop the other teams game plan working and to use that as a way of scoring more? Carlton's game plan was "Kick to Fev", so our game plan was "Get Buddy's 2 goals, then stop them giving it to Fev", and if I remember correctly we won because of it.

So, if Fev got one more goal, Hawthorn would lose? Hawthorn defeated Carlton by eighty points. They should have not "let" him get it, but what they did was wrong I think.

In unrelated news, Dees put in another good performance today which sets them up well for September action.

So what, Clarkson should just tell them "Okay fellas, let's ease up on Fevola. We'll only have Croad on him for the game and maybe if time's running out, we'll give him a cheap goal so he an reach the 100. So what if we're throwing away 150 years of tradition in having to earn the milestone and just let him get it".

It would be an absolute disgrace if Hawthorn just let Fevola get as he wouldn't deserve it as he didn't earn it. I would be absolutely filthy if that happened, just to let a couple of thousand people run onto the ground again. Look what Geelong did in the Grand Final last year, they were demolishing Port, but they didn't just say "Let them get a few cheap ones, it'll be fine." No, they continued to destroy them as that is what you do in footy. The point of the game isn't to let a "fairytale" come true, it is to kick more points then the opposing team, and that is what Hawthorn did, and the way they did that was by putting a couple of men on Fevola. I don't care if we were going to win, you should never, ever just let the opposition kick cheap goals. In cricket, when a batsmen is on 99, the captain doesn't say "Alright, everyone let him score to get it." They bring the field in and try and stop the batsmen from scoring the run so they earn it. It's like Warne against New Zealand when he scored 99. The fielder didn't think "Ah screw it. I'll drop it and let him get his first century." He took the catch and Warne didn't earn the hundred.

Do you get what I'm saying? God, I feel like I could rip the head off of a small bovine right now...
There's Only One United
Crows supporters would have felt a few different emotions this weekend. They get up in a close one against a good side to get into the top 4 when they haven't looked like getting the double chance and then the saints go out and get a massive win to drop them back out of the 4.

Leigh Matthews resigns. I think Jonathon Brown will move to Melbourne (city, not club) now.

Why? He's captain of Brisbane, they're going to get a new coach and he's a bogan so, you know, he fits in well.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Matthews join Hawthorn as part of the coaching panel now. Although he is 55 and may just be looking to get away from footy for a while.

You totally misinterpreted me. I am trying to say that that puttin 4 men on him (which is what they did on occasion) was wrong.

Anyway, the Franklin moment was one of the greatest I have seen so it was still a great night.

I've been arguing with mainly Carlton supporters for the whole of today but they just don't seem to get it.

Was it fair that Carlton put 3 men plus 2 dropping back from the midfield on Buddy fair? Anyway, Fevola actually had at most 2 players on him, it's only that whenever Carlton kicked inside their forward 50, it was always to Fevola so players who were around the general area or were on players nearby left where they were and went to spoil and move the ball out of the backline. Now what's so unfair about that? The point of footy is to score more then your opponent by plain and simply outscoring them, or by stopping them from scoring as many. Now if Carlton's only plan of scoring was by Fevola, then why wasn't Hawthorn allowed to stop that? Just because he had to kick 8 goals to get to 100, doesn't mean they should have just let him. That would degrade the milestone and it would be remembered as a gimme century, not one that he earned. Fevola had to play a well above average game to score the 100 goals, and if he still played a well above average game and still couldn't reach 100, then he didn't deserve it. It is PLAIN AND SIMPLE PEOPLE. FEVOLA DID NOT DESERVE TO SCORE 100 GOALS!

Also he's a f*ckwit so I'm happy that he missed out by a goal.
Bob Loblaw
Wow, for coming second Hawthorn sure did get a fair representation in the All-Australian preliminary squad. 3 players. St. Kilda had more. ST KILDA!

Honestly, what the f*ck is wrong with that gimposauras Robert Walls. How the hell can a team who barely managed to come 4th have more players then a team which was coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd for most of the season? My God he knows jack all. Someone, please. If you have any veterinarian training, put Robert Walls down. Even if you don't have any training, just kill the bastard.

The only Hawthorn players selected were Hodge, Mitchell and Franklin. Now 2 of them will probably get in, and how the hell can the team which is clearly the second best team in the competition, only have 2 players? It is an absolute joke. At least they could have had Bateman, Sewell, Brown, Croad, Rioli and Birchall in the squad, but nooooooooo. St Kilda players obviously had a better year. BULLSH*T! They were so very close to missing out on the finals all together. God I'm so pissed off right now. I need to kill something. AAAARRRGGHHH!!! ranting.gif

Kangaroos and Adelaide tumble out. No real nailbiters so far which is disappointing. Tomorrow will be no different, I'm expecting a 75+ point margain.
There's Only One United
Adelaide v Collingwood was a close for a fair while with the result potentially going either way for a while there but you're right in that they've been far from classics and it's probably a reflection on the season as a whole. May as well just skip to the grand final.
Scousy
Yeah, it was shaping up to be a good game but unfortunately for neutrals Collingwood just skipped away far too easily.
Bob Loblaw
I'm not quite sure why but watching Geelong today, they seemed to have lost much of their gloss and aura of invincibility. I know it was only one game and it was wet, but still, there was something not quite right about them.

What a joke.

That's what I thought, until I had a serious, unbiased look at the team. Croad should have been in their ahead of Fisher, no doubt. But after that, Hawthorn players became a bit sparse. There's an argument for Bateman to be on the wing, but look at the players who had to be put there instead. Bartel and Cooney. They were easily 2 of the top contenders to get a role as followers. Then you may say Roughead. He had no chance, unless the selectors were looking to put 6 tall forwards in the forward line. Mitchell had no chance in the middle, Brown was unlucky but due to him playing forward recently, he didn't have as strong a case to be in the backline compared to last year, although I still would have put him there. Junior had no chance, it was just the media playing with the idea of a first year player being selected. After those players, I'm struggling to think of any other Hawks players who had any chance.
There's Only One United
Geelong are into the Grand Final after last night with the Hawks most likely to join them tonight. AFL season has seemed to go on and on this year. Will be glad when it and the NRL are over so that the A-League will get more attention.
Bob Loblaw
God damn I'm so pumped for next Saturday. With my Hawthorn membership, I'm priority 1 so I definitely get a ticket to the game. This is going to be ridiculously awesome. I can't believe Hawthorn made the final, even though we should have, this is unreal. And we made it without Buddy doing anything.

A little while ago I found out where my seat is. Level 3 Row Z. Not the best seats but it's actually only half way up the level and it's behind the Hawthorn cheer squad so it won't be that bad.

BOOMER HARVEY FOR DA BROWNLOW!!

There's Only One United
Someone told me that apparently they started reading out the Round 2 votes before the Round 1 votes and then had to go backwards and start again laugh.gif
George Foreman.
So pumped. I have waited so long for us to get to a grand final, and we're finally there. Definatley taking the day off making kebabs to watch it.

Anyway, Cooney wins the Brownlow in a thriller. Black was leading the whole night, and didn't poll one vote for the last 6 rounds to miss out by one vote on 23, to Cooney's 24. Richo also came very close with 22. Definatley wanted Richo to win it though.
Scousy
The place would have erupted in Richo won. I love that man.

Also, can Andrew Demitriou be MORE bland and boring? He's a twat
vyacheslav
Would have been amazing if Richo had got the 3 votes in the last round, so dissapointing.
Cooney was a deserving winner though, good player, glad he won it over any Geelong players
Carlo Gambino
why wasn't Buddy in the running for it? did i miss something during the year or something?

EDIT: i just found out he was ineligible same with Goodes. Jonathan Brown wasn't even in the top 10, i keep hearing he's the best player in the league.
vyacheslav
This is why:

Bob Loblaw
Also because only midfielders get votes. There has only ever been 1 Full Forward to win the Brownlow.
Scousy
Just quickly, was anyone else bemused with how many votes Adam Goodes seemed to rack up? He should never have won a Brownlow, let alone two. Also, what the FUCK did Jimmy Bartel have to DO to get a vote?!

An absolute joke, the AFL loves Sydney and especially Goodes, so its not really all that surprising. The amount of times he has got off at the tribunal is proof of this
Scousy
I hadn't even thought of that. He must have got away with about 4 head high bumps this year before he was finally given a suspension.

I'm like a little kid in a candy store right now. So exciting really. Not long left!

25 minutes till Victoria, S.A, W.A, Tas.. (everyone except a few people in the bootay sniffing league states) stops still to watch the game!
can't wait biggrin.gif
There's Only One United
Pre-match was a bit of a laugh again and is certainly unique in a fair few ways compared to how it's done around the world. Off soon to the pub for Adelaide United pre-match drinks so may or may not end up watching some of the match.
MackemAB
that was probly the most strange ive heard the aussie national anthems sung tried to make it to much like an opera piece lol.
AdebaYOMOMMA
Hawthorn in front by 3 points, with Geelong failing to capitalise on many opportunities, including a miss on the siren by Mooney from directly in front.
Carlo Gambino
mighty good match so far but very intense. that no.5 from Hawthorn has belted everything that comes near him.
Carlo Gambino
Hawthorn is cruising in the last 10 minutes, 30 points ahead of the mighty Geelong. still just over a quarter left but it's looking good for the Hawks and Buddy hasn't even had a massive influence today.
George Foreman.
What a fucking win. I am just bloody stoked. Came back from a mates house just now after watching that gallant performance, and Hodge won me $150 biggrin.gif. I've waited so long for this, and i've finally experienced it. God i'm lost for words now. The whole of Hawthorns team were brilliant. Great for Crawford to win his Premiership. Stewart Dew, great influence, Bateman what a warrior, Hodge was simply outstanding, and deserved the Norm Smith medal. Our captain, Sam Mitchell was so inspirational, clearance king, oh god i could go on and on.

COME ON YOU FUCKING HAWKS!
