I'm a fairly huge fan myself. Essendon high mark member. I pay $650 a year for a reserved seat in class seating at all our home games.
Good to see the bombers picked up a quality young ruckman and some also young midfeilders to better our midfeild.
Who do you support? Well, in aussie terms (considering this is an AFL thread). Who do you "barrack" for?

It's a rougher gaelic with an oval shaped ball and pitch basically. You need to be stronger, its much more physical than Gaelic Football. Theres actually a series at the end of the AFL season that is called "International Rules". It's gaelic and AFL combined and Australia play Ireland in a 2 game series. The series that was about 2months ago was won by Australia. We are the current champions.

its like gaelic but with tackling, and our players get payed, they are professionals, the players dont get paid as much as soccer players but decent amounts.

Go the Bommers for premiers... That's almost as hopeful as a Dockers fan booking a trip to Melbourne in September.
Anyway, we all know the Eagles will go one better this year, if they can find someone to kick goals.

Absolutely hate watching this shit, can't actually believe people watch this crap. Rugby is the same, great if u wanna fall asleep. League shits all over these 2 sports. It's tough, not like afl, way more entertaining and the state of origin is like the ashes in cricket.
p.s. get rid of those shorts for Gods sake......the players look awful.

Don't talk about league shorts. The AFL players look gay which is right cause the whole organisation is shit. You have morons running around, using every part of their fricken body and the worst thing is they call it a contact sport which is bullcrap cause they arent even allowed to hit a man.
Even in rugby, i remember that Lote Tuqiri got suspended last year for a shoulder charge. Absolutely ridicuolus.
By the way, league is in sydney so i have no idea what you're on about. The state of origin will be played in melbourne this season so i advise you to go and have a look at a real contact sport which has a point to it.

yeah, ill go off to wherever they are playing the "state of origin" match with the 50 or so people in victoria that actually follow the sport
just because the players dont run at each other and hit each other at 100 miles an hour doesnt make it a non-contact sport.
oh, and from your logic, why is AFL australia's most popular sport if they have a "shit organisation"

audience, yes, participation: not TOO sure, but i know its above rugby league.
Cesc05
Jan 21 2006, 10:16 PM
It would be stupid if it didnt have the biggest audience since it's played in 5 states. If you look at WA or SA for example, it's the only sport they have apart from cricket which only comes around in summer.
Same thing goes for participation. I know that soccer is first and cricket is second but we are talking about 2 states (i don't count vic) against 5 states so it's obviously unfair.
Put it this way, if you took these 2 games out of the country, i'm sure that people would adapt to NRL ahead of AFL since it's more entertaining and the speed og the game is much quicker.
thisisbrown
Jan 22 2006, 08:37 AM
You make a passing comment about league shorts, and then bam league fans left right and centre.
Anyway, I'll never get anywhere arguing with league people. I'll just reside to the fact that here in the west we shall not fear an invasion from league after the western reds.
Well this is called the Afl thread so some news I guess. Brad Smith did his knee again, thats two preseasons in a row how unlucky. Seems like Gardiner, Lynch or McDougal will have to step up this year.
Let us know how your clubs preseasons are going as we only hear about the eagles and the shockers over hear.

IMO its boring to watch, on the same page as watching golf or cricket.

On a last note, i have to say, that Football(soccer whateva) is better than any one of these other sports

Ahh, the hours I've spent criticsing when I've been dragged along to Richmond games with my mates.
Anyway, the biggest home and away game (in AFL, we have a season of home and away games, then finals, culminating in the Grand Final) is fast approaching - this Tuesday, between Essendon (go you good thing) and Collingwood, probably the second biggest rivalry in football played out to a packed out, newly redeveloped MCG on a national holiday (no, not because of the football - it's ANZAC Day). And I will be off, sitting in one of the new stands. Gonna be bloody brilliant.

Is anyone else an MCC member here? It's pretty sweet, although it takes ages to become a member. I was on the waiting list for the best part of 14 years. The members stand is worth it though. It'll be even sweeter when I'm 18 and I can go into the private bar and booths.

I will be a junior one in September (when they do the distribution of memberships to those who have turned 15 this year), but I've been going in there to the footy and cricket in the members stand all my life. Can't wait to check out how it is on Tuesday

My Bombers aren't going too well at all...

Just when they scrap the priority picks this year as well. ARGHH... Just our luck. We would've had a Bryce Gibbs AND Selwood...
West Coast are going really well at the moment. Just keep coming back from big margins. Against Geelong and now the Blues. Adelaide still my favourite to win the Cup though. Brilliantly coached they are.

Yeah, I'm also a Bombers fan, went on Friday night too, might not go again this season. Just cannot bear to watch them play like this anymore. Still, injuries have hurt us a lot this season, and I knew we'd eventually go shit. Big, big changes have to be made in the off-season (again).
Still, if this Gibbs kid is as good they say he is, we could do a Collingwood and go well next season with our list fit.
My favourite to win it at the moment is West Coast, but all the money is for Adelaide apparently, with West Coast's escapes in the last two weeks.
