It's my favourite club for the 2001/2002 season. I watch the matches (of course when they are in tv

) and collecting goals and many gadgets about this club. What are you think about Bayer?

they are very good, they should be doing better, even without ballack who ditched them for Bayern München
they almost got relegated in 2002/2003 it would have been so funny if they did

1 year in CL final, 1 year later fighting not to get relegated

Leverkusen have a good team, they were unlucky in the 1999/2000 when they lost the title on the last day of the season despite a 3 point lead ahead of Bayern.
overall they did well in the Bundesliga and CL but now they are in a transition period so that they struggle this season.
as a Bayern and Cottbus fan i have good memories when i think of Leverkusen like the several title fights Bayern won or the fact that Cottbus won nowhere more away games than in Leverkusen, unbelieveable 2 out of 3.

Schneider was my most favourite German player in the world cup 2002

It's just such a pity he only get into the big stage after 28 years of age, and I think if he moved to Barca (who where very interested in him but Leverkusen refused to let him go because they just lost Ze Roberto and Ballack) after the world cup he would become a key player there till now. He is awesome
energy41
Dec 17 2005, 08:39 PM
i can agree that Schneider is good but i can't understand why he is used that often for the german team.
it seems somehow like at least one Leverkusen player had to play for Germany even this doesn't help the team too much

.
however, 0-0 vs Hannover on saturday. just a mid table place imo, truly disappointing.

leverkusen is a good team, and i think they can perform better than they are atm. actually i like bayer leverkusen, they play attacking football and score many goals(when they are in form though). they also have some great long range shooters, like krzynowek and athirson. leverkusen buy many brazilians, which i think is good. i hope they'll perform better in the last half of the season, when leverkusen are in form they can beat all teams in the world, remember the 3-0 victory over real madrid last season, with almost the same players as now.

agreed with energy41 (alex) about them being midtable is not good enough.... but VfB are now 5th

thats quite good considering we have dried up a tiny bit since 2003

but buying brazillians does not mean they are good, nationallity does really matter mate

He will join the club in the summer and has a deal until 2009/2010 (can't remember).
I think he won't see much action there, bad move for him.

I really like to watch Bayer because they play a very attacking, technical football. A bit unusual for a German team.
They had and have a lot of outstanding players but this season they did not well and so they are in a disappointing position in the Bundesliga midfield.
The players which I really like to see are both Brazilian national squad defenders Juan and Roque Junior (both with too much poor performances this season).
Furthermore Tranquillo Barnetta, a very promising young swiss attacking midfield player and Athirson the spirited brazilian in the left midfield position.
A kind of a "diva" is Dimitar Berbatov. There are rumours that Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing him.
Also worth to keep an eye on them are Gonzalo Castro and Simon Rolfes - both are talents in the defensive midfield. They could be rising stars in the Bundesliga and also in the German national squad team in the near future.

Why is this unusual for a german team?Did you know that the Bundesliga has highest average goal rate of all big leages for 15 consecutive years now? Many people mix up German Nationalteam and Bayern with Bundesliga. Most Bundesliga teams play offensive football!Bayern is one of the few exceptions who play defensive.

Leverkusen is one of my favorite teams in the first liga...they got some of my favorites like Schneider, Nowotny, Ramelow, and Joerg Butt...
however, i don't have so much respect for this team...They weren't really much until Bayer poured money in their accounts...they stopped and now they're not a German giant like they used to be.
OHWELL...i hate big teams anyway

Feb 12 2006, 10:54 AM
Bayer never was a giant. (They had had one in Calmund though...)
The only "giant" in German football is Munich, and it will stay that way for a long time to come. Leverkusen had a good run a few years ago, finishing second in three competitions, but failing miserably after that, almost getting relegated, as Bayer never poured that much money into the football club.
And we really need to get you new favorites if Ramelow is on that list. Worst thing that ever happened to German football. Ever.

I like Schneider and Nowotny, its just Ramelow. It's just...seeing him not taking that crucial foul in the semi-final of the Wc 2002. Ballack had to take it, got booked, and couldn't play in the final. That's why Germany lost, not because of Kahn, if it wasn't for him, Germany wouldn't even have been there.
I think every team hunts glory.

I have to admit Leverkusen played some great stuff the last years, but I simply don't like them.
They look to be in transition this season, I expected them to do better though.
The day when they just needed one point to win the title and lost 2-0 (thanks, Mr. Ballack

) with Bayern winning the title is one of my good memories that have to do with Bayer

.
I still can't understand why there have been to many german players in our national team, they weren't that good but Völler preferd them somehow.

i guess so....the big team is always going to be hated...i also just can't stand glory hunters.
Like don't even TRY to argue with me...If Bayern wasn't THE Bayern....they wouldn't have all these fans...If Mainz were the big giant of German football...all these "bayern fans" would be Mainz fans.
Bayern was one of the first teams i ever knew, so i used to be a "fan" when i first was into football.
i couldn't stand the other fans, they don't appreciate ANYTHING, goals mean nothing if they can't provide a win...Draws are a big disapointment...and a hard fought loss is just not acceptable.
It's just pathetic in my opinion when a second place finish is considered a cotastrophe.
All that matters to them is trohpy's, they can't stand supporting a team that might have more draws or loses over wins... or real problems...so they go to Bayern, not because they have Bavarian in them or they're from Munich....but for the wins!

Sportfriend has a point there, but believe me, I am not one of those described fans as I became fan with 6 years where I had no idea about glory hunting and all those stuff. In case that Mainz should be one day more mighty than Bayern I will definately not support them.
Hoeness also helped several clubs by making friendlies for nothing, just to help other clubs to get some money.

Skibbe fired.
QUOTE
Skibbe Out At LeverkusenThe writing was on the wall for Bayer Leverkusen trainer Michael Skibbe following Saturday’s loss to Werder Bremen that cost them a place in Europe next season. The Bayer board have reacted today by firing him.
The 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Werder Bremen last weekend was the straw that broke the camels back for Skibbe as it saw Hamburg and Wolfsburg secure to two Uefa Cup spots and condemn Leverkusen to seventh place in the Bundesliga.
The Werkself board met on Wednesday and took the decision to jettison Skibbe and seek somebody new to lead the side next season. He joins Dortmund’s Thomas Doll as the latest trainer casualty in the Bundesliga.
“Due to the last Bundesliga results and the fact that we have not met our season’s targets we have decided on an immediate parting of the ways with Michael Skibbe” said Chairman Wolfgang Holzhäuser.
“We had long and numerous discussions because Michael Skibbe has performed well during his time in charge. But at the end of the day everything pointed towards a brand new start for the club next season under a new trainer” he added.
Leverkusen took just seven points from their last ten Bundesliga matches and ended up in seventh place, which was a disaster considering their high ambitions.
Despite attempting to convince the board that he had the ability and solutions to turn things around next year, 42 year old Skibbe saw his tenure at the club ended with a year left to run on his current contract.
Sporting director Rudi Völler has long been a firm supporter of Skibbe, and was had only words of praise for Skibbe. “As everyone can imagine, this was a very difficult decision to make.”
Skibbe took control of the Werkself in October 2005 after the sacking of Klaus Augenthaler. Before that he was trainer at Borussia Dortmund and served as assistant to Rudi Völler.
“I have enjoyed my time here as Bayer trainer” Skibbe said after learning of the decision.
“I regret that we were unable to fulfil the expectations in the past few weeks. Despite that I’m delighted with development of the team, especially players like Rene Adler, Gonzalo Castro, Simon Rolfes and Tranquillo Barnetta.
“I wish Bayer Leverkusen and particularly my successor all the best for the future and lots of success.”

Mirko Slomka Next In At Leverkusen?Former Schalke trainer Mirko Slomka is being lined up to succeed Michael Skibbe at Bayer Leverkusen according to reports.
Days after his sacking from Bayer Leverkusen the wheels are already in motion to find a successor to 42 year old Michael Skibbe with the name of Mirko Slomka already to the fore.
The 40 year was sacked by Schalke towards the end of the season despite leading them to the Champions League quarter finals where they lost out to Barcelona.
Bayer sporting director Rudi Völler has said that the club won’t be rushing into any decisions, but it appears that thing will start to move next week.
The other candidate in the frame is Jürgen Klopp of Mainz, but it appears that he is close to signing for Borussia Dortmund.
When approached Slomka was very coy on the rumours. “I do not want to comment. There has been no contact and I have been in Moscow watching the Champions League final. I’ll fly back to Germany and then we’ll see what happens” he commented.
One stumbling block may be the fact that he is still under contract at the Veltins Arena so that would have to be sorted in an amicable way before any agreement with Leverkusen could be reached.
Leverkusen chairman Wolfgang Holzhäuser also has Greuther Fürth trainer Bruno Labbadia in his sights, but he could well be unattainable.
“He has a contract until 2009 and he will fulfil it” vowed Fürth boss Helmut Hack.
