I had a boring night, so I decided to actually do something. That something ended up being putting up a holiday skin for the site. It's not much, but it's something. I did test it somewhat and didn't notice anything horribly broken. I'm sure I will have missed something but hey, the skin will only be here for a few days max.

For those of you who now hate me for changing your skin, don't worry, the original is still available. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and pick "SP Default" from the skin selector. The current one is named "SP Holiday" for reference.

The good news is that sometime shortly after the holidays we will have a new skin. No, this has nothing to do with the redesign of SoccerPulse that is coming down the road. The color theme won't even be the same. I just want to get rid of the default skin badly. I hate it and how generic it looks. Plus I mentioned doing something about the skin at the beginning of November when we were forced to revert to the default skin that comes with the installation.

I'm not sure what direction I'm looking at for the new skin, but I don't want anything too radical. I want it to be different but it also has to meet the approval of the thousands of people who visit the site. I know quite a few people actually love (or at least really like) the original default skin. While I admit that it is a very functional and stable skin, for me it gets to be really boring. It sometimes annoys me to come to a site as big as this and see the default skin being used.

I don't think that will happen. Right now the plan for after the holiday is to have a single skin to replace the default one. The reason is because there are already many code edits required for each skin to work with our customizations and advertising code.

To keep things easy to work with for the time being, we will only be making one skin available at a time.

My computer crashed, so I haven't been on for a while, but I came on to see the new skin.

I love it a lot Feels very festive!

Just keep in mind it's SUMMER in the southern half of the world.

But most visitors are from the Northern Hemishpere I suppose.

Looks good. Well done. Of course, since I do webdesign, I tend to get picky sometimes. It would look nicer if there were more contrast between the background and tables. The snowflake in the bottom right corner looks nice, but it doesn't match the bg in IE. Use the same bg color or a gif next time?

Anyway, just some minor suggestions. ;-)

Marcogol was the one person I was able to catch on msn before I made this skin public, and he said the same thing about the amount of light colors. It was getting pretty late though, and I just decided to run with it rather than go back and change anything else. It would have only delayed the deployment, and if I waited much longer it wouldn't have even been worth it to bother with a holiday skin any longer.

As for the snowflake, I wasn't aware of that. I tested in Firefox on pc and Mac. No idea why it doesn't match either, it's a png with a transparent background. I really don't do web design, I guess you can see why.

Don't worry mate, I think more skins only make the forum better (well, good ones like the one he installed).

But I also changed it back to the default. I really liked the old blue one though. Hopefully, something similar will be back.

Well I'm going over about 3 possible choices for the new skin. While I can't promise any particular color scheme or layout, I can promise that it will be of high quality and tested extensively before it is put to long term use.

As for this skin, I have removed the snowflakes that appear in the topics because as Psyc mentioned, they look really bad in Internet Explorer.
