but he's boring as hell! Same with Gerrard, Lampard, and Eider and Ballack---all good footballers, but deadly dull and not gonna sell boots the way that Becks does now. He got that fat contract more for wearing a skirt and banging a Spice girl (and I hear he's quite pretty himself) than for anything done on a pitch. I can't think of a single player that's a worthy succesor as a spokesman---most of those ya'll listed are much better players however.

Yeah that's true, Adidas would go for someone who has worldwide exposure, not just to those in the football world.

Yes but lets keep in mind that Pele is one of the greatest footballers of all time, he wil always be remembered, beckham might be recognised by some football fans in 20 years time but i dont think he'll still be popular therefore bringing out products with his name on it would be a waste, i dont think theres any point bringing stuff out after his retirement, for example elvis was huge and will always be recognised, products with his face are still being sold, but for example FIVE if anyone remeber that boy band from a bunch of year ago were popular (like bekcham) but no one buys they'r cd or what not anymore becuase everyone forgot about them.

^agreed there. for instance like someone bove said the michael jordan shoes..hes one of the best players (in my opinion) to have EVER played basketball. beckham is a good footballer (laugh at me fellow americans..but soccer is not a sport) but not near the level that MJ was at basketball. i think adidas will wait until they have their next huge marketer..someone that, like someone said above, has more exposure than just to the game of football.

Beckham and R carlos are in my opinion the top 2 freekick takers, whos number one, i have no idea. Becks has accuracy and carlos has power, why did becks get his own line...... as someone said earlier "he banged a spice girl".

The main man now is Beckham, but i believe that number 2 for Adidas is the awkward Cisse, i always thought Zizou would take over as the lead for Adidas but i guess that wont be happening (unless adidas pulls a stunt like Puma ,who brought back Pele) Messi's large nose gets in the way of his boots (always thought he looks like a St. Bernard) Lampard seems too shy too be that MASS exposed, Kaka seems like a humble kid himself, Gerrard is the personification of a born leader, firm as a rock type of player. Unless you have Shinsuke Nakamura as the next Becks, for Adidas it seems to be pretty much in the air right now

My best guess would be that they'll wait a while for a player like beckham to come along, no one can replace beckham at the moment and earn adidas money the way he did. So the only option i see is to wait for the new Becks.

i just cant see adidas changing to nike's advertising campaign of speed, i will always see adidas as a company who believes in playmaking football so i think they'd go for another beckham type.
