You don't know Caneira? He is a regular player at the national team doh.gif

BTW he is much closer to Porto than to Sporting..
AGUIA-SLB
I think hes just an average player. Nothing out of this world imo.
figo

RQuaresma07
Marco Caneira, dammit, I wanted him at Porto smile.gif
mEGa
Me too, I believe he will come to us although there is a bunch of Sporting news atm...

well porto would welcome him.
Aveirenses
It's a scary thought when someone who runs a website about news has never heard or seen Marco Caneira...

I guess you didn't see Portugal vs. Slovakia or vs. Estonia either.
figo
ya i know, but i never got the chance to watch those games

Ah.. damn. I think we'll still get Meira though...
Aveirenses
Meira's leaving? I doubt Giovanni will let him, has there even been talks of him leaving?
Em4Lyf

Yup, there has been constant rumours since Porto's defensive problems started.. especially over the last Summer where he was really close on joining us.

I'm not sure if we will get him now, but I do believe he is going to end up in Porto very soon.

Welcome home Canaeira nice to see one of our own coming back instead of going to the other 2 teams.
Sporting Leão
Good signing, Caneira will be a good addition to the Sporting back- line.
AGUIA-SLB
Hey wats going on? I heard that the deal has broken down.
figo
i've just posted a story on my site that says that a team missed out, cause the signing was made official today. check it out.

Portista
You might not want to fully post that though. They are saying that Valencia cancelled the deal and that Caneira is happy in Spain.
figo
it says this though

"French outfit AS Saint-Etienne have missed out on the signature of Valencia defender Marco Caneira, after his return to former side Sporting Lisbon was officially announced today."

That doesn't really mean anything to what I said. I'm saying that he might not even go to Sporting.

Bahaha, now I could really see him coming to Porto laugh.gif
Sporting Leão
damnit now he may not come at all!!!!?!?

this really sucks.
Now I know how all the Benfica fans felt like when Maxi Lopez, Tomasson, Robinho were supposed to come.

sucks, he would be good at SCP but we would of had to give him away at the end of the season anyways...so I guess it isn't that bad but he could of helped our defence and improve our chances at winning some trophies this season.

SCPleao
He choose Sporting over Valencia today.
Von Dragon
doesnt matter if he choose Sporting the question is will Valencia want to sell him or even loan him out
RQuaresma07
Bingo^VD is right
...
Im still hoping that Porto go after him.

The clubs already made an agreement for the 6-month loan. All that was left was Caneira's acceptance.

Unless Valencia decide to back-out.
Portista
Still no agreement but he did get the chance to train with them yesterday.

Caneira heads home to Sporting
Tuesday, 3 January 2006
e-mailPrint

Valencia CF have loaned Portugal defender Marco Caneira to Sporting Clube de Portugal until the end of the season.

Much travelled
The 26-year-old began his career with Sporting and, aside from his spell in Spain, has also played in Italy and France, with Reggina Calcio and FC Girondins de Bordeaux respectively. No contract details have been disclosed but it is known that Sporting have no option to sign the player on a permanent basis.

World Cup hope
Caneira played just five times in the Primera División this season but has continued to feature regularly for his country. He will hope the return to the Portuguese Liga will boost his chances of a place in Portugal's FIFA World Cup squad. He moved to Valencia prior to the 2004/05 season and has made a total of 27 appearances for the club.

He has always said he wanted to stay at Sporting (I can't blame him clapping.gif )..... But number 1 we are not going to pay Valencia what they paid for him, and number two we are not going to pay him the same salary Valencia pays him..... just basic economics even middle tier Spanish teams have way more money to pay their players then top Portuguese teams.....
