Ok just been having a conversation about the lack of protection in football boots.
When you think about it really the modern football boot is just as protective as the average shoes, and professionals wonder why they have soo many injuries and especially when they are at the standard that they could get custom made boots ..what do you think on this matter?

a professional shoe must be built like that, so that you have the possibility to move with your feet quick. no prof. would play in big winter shoes just in the case of not injuring
Are you the guy who's trying to add some plastic onto the boot with your dad??

Is protection really necessary. I know everything hurts, and sometimes it can put you out of the game, but that's part of the game. In rugby, aren't they expected to get hurt, so in soccer, your feet should almost be expected to come into contact with someone else.

There's injuries in every sport. Might aswell buy industrial rolls of bubble wrap and bubble wrap your foot.
It's football not ballet...have to deal with these things (and chicks dig scars

).

I get my foot stood on in rugby at least twice a game and you just run it out, although with soccer feet are flying twice the speed then just a random stud hitting my foot. Yowee.

hey, coincidentally my local paper ran an article with the headline ."
Arent boots supposed to protect feet?" accompanied by a picture of owen in his silver umbros.the jist of the whole article was about owen's recent metatarsal injury and the journalist,Rob Hughes' ,questioning boots of today.here are some notable points from his article.
"Curiously, the boot manufacturing industry...does not appear to spend the resources to protect the most vital part of a player's anatomy-his feet.Shouldn't we be asking how much thought is applied to medical axiom that prevention is better than cure?""As a service to England...I looked up a website advertising the Umbro boot "as worn by Michael Owen."It boasted....soft kangaroo leature..execptional fit.For a moment, the devil got in my head.If Owen was wearing kangaroo boots, why did'nt he jump over Robinson?""I kept looking, searching for qualities to do the paramount function in a boot, protect the foot.Evo-skeletal carbon fibre....cushioning heel lift.So the heel, it seems, has built-in protection. But the top of the foot, which contains the most delicate of the bones?"
"All of the companies now employ laboratory techincians...They could, but they do not, build in more protection for the top of the foot, and for the ankle joint."however the journalist did stress that not too much protection should be in boots..
"When I was a young lad,we had reinforced toe caps in our football boots.Fit steel or moulded plastic protection inside the leather ,and you equip the rogues with an offensive weapon....and the way some bruisers kick the limbs of the opponents(who essien?
),perhaps its just as well."I totally agree with the points made about more protection in boots nowadays.less style, more protection i say.

It makes sense as to what he said, but if you put stuff on top of the boot, don't you lose touch?

That article is, tbh, completely ridiculous. I'd doubt whether or not this guy has watced, never mind played football in his life., he seems to know so little about football boots. The padding at the back is to protect against blisters, not tackles. It would take very good and clever engineering to make a boot which protected the foot and also retained good touch etc. This means a lot of expenditure for manufacturers, and I'd doubt they'd get the money back.

I read an article that said the increase in metatarsal injuries were a direct result of modern boots such as predator series etc, but i can't see how modern boots differ that greatly from older boots, its not like they play in barefeet

Took me a few times to get that.
Americans can kind of use the word soccer...as football is NFL and it would cut confusion so they have every right to.

Yeah I think that maybe a more modern boot would be better, but older boots are still good, but preds would probly be the best
