Big talent, but in his current form he can be happy if he sees any playing time at all in the World Cup this year.
Spelling should be Schweinsteiger btw.

He is a quality lad, played already with 18 for Bayern but needs to concentrate more on football though.
I am sure he will never be the big leader of Germany, he is more a guy who does his game without leading.
Definately one of our best youngsters IMO.

Come to think of it, sounds a lot like Deisler, doesn't it?
energy41
Feb 13 2006, 01:16 PM
To be honest yes, very talented but no leader at all.
sportfriend
Feb 13 2006, 06:23 PM
lets just hope he doesn't have such badluck like poor Deisler
RockinRaul
Feb 13 2006, 06:51 PM
very talented, very cheek, very skilled. yes, like deisler, but he is not so injury affected *if that makes sense* like deisler. not a leader, but in combination with podolski, he is amazing!
Zayne
Feb 14 2006, 03:40 AM
And we'll see that in a year or two.
RockinRaul
Feb 16 2006, 09:20 PM
yeah, he has to grow up a bit, but i like it that he is cheeky and he tries stuff, even if it doesn´t always pay out. he reminds me a bit of mehmet scholl, btw. anyone thinks that, too?
Zayne
Feb 17 2006, 03:14 AM
Can't remember Scholl in Schweinsteiger's age. But you may have a point there.
energy41
Feb 17 2006, 12:04 PM
From their playing style maybe, but I feel like the hype around Scholl was bigger than it is with Schweinsteiger.
He was the main hero in my primary school, that should say it all.
Zayne
Feb 17 2006, 12:30 PM
Yea but they show little kids in elementary school (

) wearing the new haircut Schweinsteiger just got...so it might be the same...
energy41
Feb 17 2006, 12:48 PM
Okay, I left primary school some years ago so I am not into the action anymore

.
Scholl was somehow the only big "pop star" in his early career when it comes to hype while we have other lads like Podolski or Kuranyi also being hyped and getting media attention like the Nutella advert

.
Say what you want, but the 4 Nutella guys aren't doing as good as they should, Schweinsteiger needs to go more for it aswell.
Zayne
Feb 17 2006, 01:00 PM
I left elementary school a few years back too...

A lot of talents got hyped and never delivered. Just saw Timm playing in Fürth the other day. Prime example.
energy41
Feb 17 2006, 01:06 PM
To be exact, I left primary school in 2000 but at that time the Scholl hype was already over.
Oh yes, Timm, who had a quality season with Cologne but didn't made the real breakthrough, Ricken who was never more than solid or Zepek who had the most under 21 appereances but moved to Leverkusen where it is well known that young german lads don't get their real chance. He is playing Regionalliga now, 3 wasted careers because of wrong moves or even wrong decsions/behaviour outside the football pitch.
There are surely many other we don't think of right now, hopefully Schweinsteiger will do it better.
Zayne
Feb 17 2006, 01:21 PM
I hope he does. Not sure if Ricken should be in the list. At least he scored the deciding goal in the CL final 97.
I left elementary school in 99.
energy41
Feb 17 2006, 01:37 PM
He did, but didn't do well anymore afterwards. Doing this rock song stuff etc didn't do him well.
13th grade then?
Unlike me then.
Zayne
Feb 17 2006, 01:43 PM
Then it was 2000, damn I messed up counting...well I'd be 12th grade now but since I was in Seattle it was better to redo one year.
On topic: It's funny how the club made Schweinsteiger change his haircut hu?
energy41
Feb 17 2006, 01:48 PM
Ah okay then.
Yeah, his haircut looks good now, I prefer the shorter version.
His hairs look quality anyway, there are several lads who don't look good with their hairs, but well, it doesn't really matter.

Bumping this thread. Discuss anything about Schweini here. And not what DWY7 and Alex were talking about previously.

Yea no spam in the German Soccer forum..

But regardless, I think Schweinsteiger will play a big part this season, he just needs to become more consistent.

Those were days

. We stayed on topic a bit though.

However, this convo was one of the reasons why the Jacuzzi was introduced later

.
Back to topic, I would love to see Ribery and Schweinsteiger on the wings this season on a regular basis.
Perhaps he will get a chance in the centre here and there too, would be fine with me too. I just want to have him and his playing style in the team.
RockinRaul
Aug 3 2007, 04:29 AM
schweini when he is full fit and ribery should be an awesome way to storm down the wings! if schweini leaves the wing a little just to get back there when he is needed and then the deatly cross... KAWUMM GOAL!
yeah, that does sound sweet. ribery is a tank on the wing, so schweini has to show a little something special. but he is cheeky, he does not have too much respect of the big names, thats good. i like his way of playing and creating chances. thats damn good. i really hope he will be able to work together with ribery and maybe they even help each other pushing it to their bests.
and about your off topic chit chat, ladies... 1999 i finished school
Zayne
Aug 3 2007, 05:01 AM
Well 'Grandpa' you got a point with the wing play. Both of them can cut inside and create chances for themselves and others, but both Klose and Toni are deadly headers of the ball, so that makes the wings that much more important.

look kid....
i do think with two heading machines and two crosses like ribery and schweini, we should enjoy some really nice goals. as much as i like ribery, i would hate it to see schweini losing his place in the team to him. schweini is young and yes, he does remind me of scholl. so we need such a young bloke in the team.

Aug 3 2007, 12:48 PM
Schweinsteiger is perfect for this team, with his crossing and everything. Has anyone noticed that he can crack under pressure like the whole World Cup excluding the 3rd place game (which had no pressure to win on it) he was, well, a little disappointing. Hopefully he can learn to stay consistent at all times, that is what he really needs consistency.
Zayne
Aug 3 2007, 12:58 PM
Well, he was what, 22? Cut him some slack, after all he already has over 40 international games at this age, which is a huge achievement.
Odysseus
Aug 3 2007, 01:07 PM
Yes, but it is a bad habit to bottle games. He is 23 and he needs to start improving on the front of consistency, he has a lot of time on his hands with his football career and everything, but I'd like to see some improvement with consistency and then he would be almost perfect.

i had a discussion about that with a lot of cronaldo fanboys in the phenomenon thread or so. they compared he both of them and i was defending schweini, calling him the completer player.
right now, i think i will reconsider what i said. i totally like his style. i still do think he is better in the whole of it. but ronaldo improved so damn fast and so damn well. we give schweini a break for being 23? ronaldo is 22 and on fire. if he wants to make an impact, schweini should start finding the button to show what he is capable to do. and he is capable of a lot, i guess nobody here doubts it, right? but he has to shine slowly but surely. as hertha said, he has to show his worth in tough games aswell as in the easy ones!
Zayne
Aug 4 2007, 03:13 AM
Based on current form, Ronaldo is arguably the best player in the world right now, and yes he is a year younger than Schweinsteiger. But I think we'll have to get away from this image that players will only amount to something if they're already great at twenty. It's a natural process, it takes time, players like Ronaldo or Rooney are exceptions. Every player goes through ups and downs in his form, especially young players. I have no doubt that Schweinsteiger will convince us all this season, with a full pre-season.
RockinRaul
Aug 4 2007, 10:20 AM
yes, well as i said, i like schweini and i think his style is pretty unique in the buliga. and i do not doubt the fact that he will be one of the players that will make a deep impact to the german football in the future, starting with this season. i just wanted to point out, that a lot of youngsters out there are ahead of him. thats all.
btw, ronaldo is not the worlds best player imo. but i won´t start that discussion again and for sure not here
btw, i was looking for a nice schweini comp... but aside the "cuuuute" picture slideshows on youtube... nah

shows a bit of schweini when he has a good day. i think that is what we would like to see more of him, right?
Zayne
Aug 5 2007, 05:43 AM
Of course, but the only game he really perfomed in was the one against Portugal were all the pressure was off him.
RockinRaul
Aug 5 2007, 06:08 AM
well, you can say that about many youngsters at the WC. that was clearly one for the legends, not for the young guns.
anyway, that game showed what he was capable to do. he needs to do that more often.
Zayne
Aug 7 2007, 06:48 AM
I strongly feel, if Schweinsteiger stays with us for his career, he'll be a legend in the team an in the German game. He's only what 22, and already has 40+ caps for Germany.
RockinRaul
Aug 7 2007, 07:48 AM
yep, i see him with bayern for a life aswell. don´t know why. i just think he is the loyal typ of guy. i was thinking if maybe a playerlike ribery was exactly what he needed to click. i mean, sure we can´t say that yet already, but i wonder if he needs some little genius at his side to play "his" style aswell, if you know what i mean. i mean, the cheeky style is not what people have in mind when they think about german football, right? still i would say schweini plays that way. and with someone he can link with, maybe he will florish better and faster?
just a thought.
