Full Version: Could A Woman Ever...

I was recently enlightened to an idea, if it was possible in the near future, that there was a woman footballer, who was better than the best Men's footballer in the world.

By this, I mean, for example, that the Woman Footballer of the Year, was in actual fact better, in skill, tactical discipline, all around play, and such categories than the Male Footballer of the Year?

Now normally, one would argue that it would be impossible simply because of the physical advantages men hold over women normally, but opening our minds to the possibility, do you think it could happen?

It is possible, i mean why should sex or strength be anything to do with it ? I doubt anyone could be better than Ronaldinho at the moment though...

I think it is unlikely, to say the least, because of two things:

1. The players who win WPotY are almost all exciting, attacking players.

2. Women (from my experiences, and this is not applicable to all women) generally are less dribble-oriented. Thus they are percieved as less exciting and so not as good their male counterparts.

That's more about perception though, so I don't see any reason why it couldn't happen. And as for the physical advantage, that is necessarily linked to skill; a player like Maradona surely would have won the award if it existed in his time and he was not especially well-endowed physically.

Hmm? Maradona may not have height to his advantage, but he was definitaly not at a disadvantage in a muscular sense. He's short and stocky and had some big legs!

Agree with all of your other points though!

i personally would like to believe that nothing is an impossibility and i always like to try and think of all the possibilities but imo this is highly unlikely. you'd have a better chance of teddy sheringham outrunning dennis rommedahl in a 100m sprint.

look, the top women's players don't even have the skills nor the physicality to compete with the top under 16 boys. there is a gigantic difference between top u16 boys and top professional first team players the last time i checked. i just don't see how that is possible for a woman wpoty to be better all round then a male wpoty. i do however think that in some extreme circumstances it could be very well possible for a very good woman's player to be better than one of the average or crappy men's players but never the wpoty.

It's possible but highly unlikely.
Felipão
Less than 1% possibility.
