Irish 1916 Easter Rising

Would a Polish goalie really know the significance of 1916?

Yes, he would.

It was when the kingdom of Poland was first established.

"The Kingdom of Poland, also informally called Regency Kingdom of Poland (Polish: Królestwo Regencyjne), was the state proclaimed by the Act of November 5 issued by Imperial Germany and Austria-Hungary. It was created within the former Russian territory of Congress Poland (however with no defined borders) in 1916 and existed as a satellite state of Germany until 1918".

Im sure there is some kind of point to this other than some kind of collaboration with the 1916 Easter Rising that has NOTHING to do with Celtic Football Club on anything other than political standing?

Did my last schoolproject on the Easter Rise!

1916 maybe was the year of the Establishing of Poland, but the land the state of Poland owned before the second world war is mostly part of Ukraïne now. The Poland we know nowadays maintains a big part of what has been Germany before. Warschau for instance used to be a city in the western part of Poland, now it is very Eastern. Now Poland is part of the EU the borderline is closed so people who still have family in Ukraïne got difficulties getting there.

Just a lil peace of history!

Ohh Just saw this... sofunny.gif rofl.gif rofl.gif "Celtic manager Gordon Strachan says comments made by Polish keeper Artur Boruc about his team-mates were "tongue in cheek".
Boruc was quoted in Polish newspapers as saying that John Hartson was lazy and Roy Keane acted like a star.

But Strachan told BBC Scotland: "It was done tongue in cheek in a football forum with about 50 Legia Warsaw fans.

"Some of the boys were disgusted they didn't get a mention. I knew of it on Tuesday, but it looks funny in print."

Referring to Boruc's comment that Hartson is the "laziest player I've seen", Strachan added: "I did see a ginger, rotund guy out doing sprints in the car park this morning."

Boruc was also quoted as saying: "There's no comparison between Legia and Celtic supporters.

"I would give a lot to see 50,000 Legia fans in Celtic's stadium. During the game I feel like I'm in the theatre or cinema.

"People come to the stadium and pick their nose, although it's a bit better during Old Firm games."

He is also less than complimentary of the goalkeeping training under coach Jim Blyth.

"The level of goalkeeper coaching at Celtic is much lower than with Legia. I have to obey their orders and as a result I'm getting fat. It's very poor but what can I do?" he said.

Regarding a potential move to Arsenal that was rumoured to be on the cards earlier in the season, he said: "I talked with (Arsene) Wenger and he wanted me to join his club at the end of the season.

"I didn't want to wait that long and if I had agreed I would have probably been axed at Celtic. I couldn't take such a huge risk before the World Cup." "

Yes, Boruc truely is a Celtic legend... rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Who cares, clearly hasnt affected the team with an SPL record 8-1 victory today fish.gif

All Hail King Artur clapping.gif

A pissed pole lol

GORDON STRACHAN last night laughed off Artur Boruc's public criticism of some of his team-mates and claimed he used it in the team talk which inspired his side to the SPL's record win.

The Celtic boss didn't seem to be bothered about the quotes attributed to the Pole in which he is alleged to have made derogatory remarks about Roy Keane, John Hartson, the Celtic fans and goalkeeping coach Jim Blyth.

Strachan's mood may have been helped by his side's historic 8-1 thrashing of Dunfermline ( Dunfermline v Dundee Utd, click here)at East End Park yesterday which saw Maciej Zurawski net four and Neil Lennon score his first goal since December 2001.

Record Sport understands Boruc apologised to the players concerned at the team's hotel on Saturday night and hopes the matter is now behind him.

In a boozy night back in Poland Boruc took part in a question and answer session with fans and didn't mean his comments to be made public when he described Hartson as lazy, Keane as walking around like a superstar, the Celtic fans as too quiet and blamed Blyth's methods for him putting on weight.

Strachan said: "It was hilarious. I think most people understood it was a fans' forum and he was having a bit of a laugh ?
petrov_19
Boruc is right in what he said, who here didn't know john harston is a lazy c unt (no a sexy beast), and roy keane is a superstar... and have you heard much singing at parkhead latley apart from the old firm and hearts games.

Looks like the team responded to their critisisim(sp) by taking revenge on dunfermiline (8-1 banana.gif ) , now let there be a show when Aberdeen come to visit.

Very odd timing... this thread was revived just in time for this report to come out:

Boruc ready to quit Celtic in the summer

Celtic keeper Artur Boruc is contemplating quitting the Parkhead club in the summer.

The 28-year-old Poland international, back in his homeland for tonight's friendly against the USA, revealed he could be ready to leave Glasgow despite signing a new contract which runs to 2011, just two months ago.

Ahead of Saturday's crunch Old Firm derby at Ibrox, Boruc, linked with Bayern Munich and AC Milan, was quoted in the Scottish Daily Express saying: 'I feel very good in Glasgow but I would like to change environment.

'I would like to try something new.

'I don't want to leave desperately but if a good club comes along, why not?

'One report says that Bayern want me, while the other claims it is not true.

'There is no offer from Bayern.

'They are, however, a big club that I would consider if they said they wanted me.'

Boruc's early brilliance not enough to save win

Seems about right, he pretty much kept the team together and was arguably the main reason why the team was on their way to a victory until he was sent the wrong way by Vastic.

Another performance like that versus the Croats in the final match and he could be off to one of the big boys in Europe crying_new.gif

As someone who's watched his exploits pretty closely for the last three years, I have to say I agree with this.

He's liable to making a complete howler on occasions, even though he may make ten great saves in between them. Usually he keeps them to a minimum, though, and he's single-handedly kept us in matches far more often than he's lost them for us.

What's the question you wanted to ask, by the way? tongue.gif

Just seen that myself, not the wisest of moves I have to admit. No word on exactly how long the ban's going to be, though he's set to miss the first two qualifying matches vs Slovenia and San Marino.

Boruc - Modesty the best policy rolleyes.gif

QUOTE
Reformed Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has vowed to stay on the straight and narrow after cleaning up his act on and off the pitch.

Boruc endured a torrid start to the season when he was fined by Celtic for an incident during pre-season, summoned before the SFA after being accused of gesturing to Rangers fans after dropping a clanger in their Old Firm derby and axed by Poland as a disciplinary measure.

But the 28-year-old has since returned to top form for both Celtic and Poland, helping the Bhoys to lead the SPL and his country to a crucial World Cup win over the Czech Republic last weekend.

"I decided I should be more calm and modest," said Boruc in the Daily Record.

"The past few weeks have been a very dark chapter in my book but I believe all that is behind me now.

"I regret what happened but sometimes you need to experience such things to grow as a person and as a professional."

We'll see how long that lasts, he's already on his way to gaining his old, great form back. I don't see it (his newly-modest ways) lasting forever, but maybe for this season he'll play some inspiring football.

Speaking of which, he was apparently injured during his international duties, but the knock seems to have been a minor one. Thank goodness for that, otherwise we'd have been left with Mark Brown between the posts...

QUOTE
Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has been found guilty of improper conduct by the Scottish FA's disciplinary committee and warned about his future conduct.

Boruc, 28, was photographed gesturing towards Rangers fans during Celtic's Old Firm defeat at Parkhead in August.

And he was fined £500 and severely censured by the SFA review panel at a hearing at Hampden on Thursday.

The Poland international has been at the centre of a series of controversies since signing for Celtic in 2005.

In August 2006, he received a procurator fiscal's caution for breach of the peace as an alternative to prosecution after making gestures towards Rangers fans at Ibrox in February that year.

In March, he was shown a yellow card for making a gesture towards Hibernian fans after Celtic's 2-0 victory at Easter Road.

Then, in April, he wore a "God bless the Pope" t-shirt on the pitch after a 3-2 victory over Rangers.

Most recently, he was dropped from the international squad for alleged off-the-field misbehaviour in August.

Boruc made the latest gesture at Rangers fans after conceding four goals while Celtic's Glasgow rivals ran out comfortable winners at Celtic Park on 31 August.

His case was held over from 16 September in order to allow him to prepare for the following night's Champions League opener against Aalborg.

He was to be given the opportunity to explain his actions.

Boruc's fine is identical to that given to Dundee United goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska for gestures his fellow Pole made during a match against Aberdeen last season.

SFA president George Peat said: "The SFA tries to be as consistent as possible."

Peat was conscious that some might say that the fine was miniscule compared to the earnings of players like Boruc.

"You could have the same position with someone who is earning a lot less and, unless you decided that you were going to take it as a percentage of his earnings, it's a difficult one to evaluate," he said.

"We certainly have to discourage it as it does no-one any good to try to incite supporters and we have to eliminate that.

"We just hope that the message has got through and it does not continue."

The Celtic goalkeeper has seven working days to appeal the SFA's decision.

Brown's a solid keeper, he may not be as good a shot-stopper, but he's probably more reliable all-around than Boruc.

The Ledge
This guy is MAD!!!

SPEAK to Arsene Wenger and Carlo Ancelotti and they will tell you he is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

Ask Celtic manager Gordon Strachan and he’ll confirm he wouldn’t swap him for anyone.

But Artur Boruc doesn’t share the same high opinion of himself.

He reckons he’s actually an IDIOT with a STUPID job.

If truth be told, the 28-year-old Holy Goalie has never cared what anyone else thinks of him.

And in a candid interview with a Polish magazine, Boruc confessed he is petrified about his future when he hangs up his gloves.

The madcap Celts No1 has sparked a blizzard of headlines ever since he arrived at Parkhead in July 2005 as an unknown on loan from Legia Warsaw before a £650,000 deal was struck.

If he’s not been winding up Rangers supporters with gestures and ‘God Bless The Pope’ t-shirts, he’s been back in Warsaw having it large without a care who sees him — lighting up cigars, downing beers and snogging his new girlfriend.

But that’s Artur Boruc.

If you want him in your squad you have to accept the baggage that accompanies one of the planet’s top performers.

Boruc, though, can’t understand all the fuss that’s made about him as a keeper.

Asked what the big deal is about football he responded: “I have no idea. I understand that many people find football stupid. Twenty two boys running around. It does look strange.

“To be honest, I believe I’ve got a stupid job.

“Imagine the situation. My son comes back home all dirty. I can’t say anything because he will reply ‘Dad, come on. You roll in the mud every day’.

“We’re idiots. We must be because our mistakes are so visible.

“If my team concedes a goal no one says that it’s the team’s mistake. People say Boruc conceded a goal.

“But when we win a game no one says it’s thanks to a goalkeeper.

“Success always belongs to a group. Failure is usually linked to a goalkeeper.”

Boruc could have at least another 12 years as a keeper IF he looks after himself.

But the £32,000-a-week ace has been slaughtered for months for a perceived weight problem.
A nightmare performance in the 4-2 defeat to Rangers in August highlighted question marks over his conditioning. However Boruc had also endured revelations the same day of his painful marriage split.

When quizzed if boss Strachan ever asks him to lose weight, he said: “Never. As long as I give 100 per cent on the pitch and I do my best, no one complains about me. That’s the rule.

“But there is also another rule — you are as good as your last match. I like those rules.”

Some have wondered if Boruc is even that passionate about his profession, but the interview nailed such talk.

The Polish ace, outstanding at Euro 2008 as his country flopped once more in a major championships, said: “Football is my life. It means EVERYTHING for me.

“Sometimes I think ‘What am I going to do after I retire from football?’. It frightens me a bit.

“What am I going to do without 60,000 people screaming my name?

“It’s scary, but I don’t know if I will be able to live as a 60-year-old man without a life in a fairytale.”

Boruc will never be short of fans — male and female.

He revealed: “I have had a few marriage proposals, but I said no.

“I don’t know why, but there is something in sportsmen that women like. But I don’t consider myself super handsome.

“My body is my work tool. But I don’t care about it that much. I don’t ski or do bungee-jumping and the like.

“I am lazy. I don’t like to read. I am ignorant.

“I don’t have a hobby. I just like to spend some time in my home. I feel good like that. I like my life.”
http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/ho...icle1981188.ece

ARTUR BORUC has revealed he’s got no pals at Celtic — and he’s HAPPY about it.

The controversial keeper insists being a Parkhead loner suits him perfectly.

Boruc said: “I don’t think it’s a good idea to make friends with people you are playing with. There is no deep friendship between football players.”

Boruc, who needed just 12 days to recover from knee surgery in time to face Aalborg in the Champions League, is rarely out of the headlines.

He was captured during a recent rehab break in Warsaw drinking beer, smoking a cigar and cavorting with his new girlfriend.

Boruc, 28, said he spent hardly any time with his Hoops team-mates and insisted the only player he’s close to is Polish star Michal Zewlakow, who stars for Olympiakos.

And the £10million-rated keeper claims the only reason Celtic have won three-in-a-row titles is because the players are so single-minded.

He revealed: “The only exception in my case is Michal Zewlakow. He is the only footballer I know how to talk to.

“Those times when atmosphere in the team was very important are gone.

“Now at Celtic every player counts on himself.

“Everyone thinks about personal success. Thanks to that way of thinking we win a lot of games." http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/ho...icle1981353.ece
