A Canadian at Chelsea
Canada's best young goal scorer, Christine Sinclair, is bringing her heart, head, hustle and hoof to one of the great stages of world football.
We've got a variety of interesting soccer stories emanating from England this week. Here's an overview:
Christine to Chelsea: As a teenager, she came within inches of winning a World Cup for Canada. Then she went south and tore up the NCAA with a record-setting, title-winning college career at the University of Portland.
Now, at the advanced age of 22 (!!), Christine Sinclair is bringing her heart, head, hustle and hoof to one of the great stages of world football. Chelsea Ladies FC has swooped for Sinclair's signature, and the Burnaby-born superstar will be dressed in blue as soon as her work permit can be arranged.
Relative to her competition, Sinclair has to be our nation's most talented and promising young player. Alas, the same cannot be said for her new team. The Chelsea women are mired in a tense relegation battle, and may not even figure in England's top flight of women's soccer next season. They're clearly hoping that Sinclair -- who has already struck 53 goals for Canada -- will be able to reverse their fortunes, and get them back on a slightly more even footing with their almost invincible male counterparts.
It's a very intriguing pairing of a player and team. And the next time Jose Mourinho is looking for a striker? Like maybe he should be after last week's 0-3 pasting at Middlesbrough?
Well, we can dream, can't we?

Christine has got to be THE best female Canadian player and she's only 21, what a talent. I saw a few games on FSC with her at the University of Portland, she's awsome.
