I'm gonna agree with Holland, just because the way Van Basten has been managing them, but they're dead if anything happens to Robben.

I think it's difficult to say that any one or even two European countries have a better chance than others. I think it's more like half a dozen. All the ones mentioned, plus France, Spain, Czech Republic. I think all those could be pooled as a third choice behind Brazil and Argentina, in my mind the favorites.

Other than my biased opinion of Holland I would have to say the Italians have the best shot. They have a core of expierienced players in addition to some great skill, Luca Toni is playing out of his shoes this year, Totti was playing the best football of his life, too bad he had to break his ankle, hopefully he can make it back for the WC. With that idoit Trappatoni out and Lippi running things, the usual suspects for Italy can have a decent shot at what they are capable of: winning the World Cup.

Holland, England and Italy, then closely behind them France, Portugal and Czech Republic. I'm now getting more and more convinced that a european team will win the world cup, Argentina lost again and Brazil did not look too great vs Russia.

Don't take much from friendlies man. The conditions were horrible in Russia, freezing and snowing and needless to say, that is a bit of a shock to Brazilians. And even though Germany lost 4-1, odds are they will do well as hosts. Friendlies, specifically for World Cup teams are tune-ups and rarely mimic their preformace in the tournament, for example Holland won against Greece 4-0 in a pre-Euro friendly and Greece ends up winning Euro, go figure.

I understand that but the Croatia - Argentina match did not come as much of a shock, Argentina have been on a very poor run of form dating back from the Confed Cup final, their last 2/3 games of qualifying and all the friendlies up to the present. Brazil, i know that the conditions in Russia did not favour them and yes Ronaldinho did not play, but i truely believe that Brazil are not the force they are when Ronaldinho is missing. Ronaldo is a shadow of his former self and Adriano has not exactly been banging in goals lately, Carlos is looking his age and tehy are still clumsy at the back. Italy just sent out a message to the teams at the World cup to show they are not just a good defensive team but also have talented attackers...even though it was a friendly.

I think that if Spain's forwards, namely David Villa and Fernando Torres, are in form, then Spain have the best shot. The midfield is the best techinically (Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Cesc/Albelda, with Joaquin and Reyes on the wings) and the Defence is very good too (Ramos, Puyol, Salgado, Casillas, Lopez have all palyed well this season)

I Reckon if Italy can pull things together on the field the way they beat Germany they stand a good chance of meeting Brazil in the Final. One of the important things will be for the manager to get a hold of Totti before he gets suspended in the World Cup Twice in a row. The other teams I reckon could do well are Portugal and Holland, to me England don't have the goods to go on and win the World Cup.

england, italy, holland, and spain are europes best chances
England-need a new manager
Italy-Need Totti to be in form and Gilardino(useless out of form)
Holland- Need Jaap Stam back
Spain-Need strikers on form

1- Italy ( they have very good and balance squad: skill + experience, attack & defense)
2- England (Very good squad, but so-so GK)
3- France (Very good squad and ballance, only if they can sync up each other) = Holland (young and talent squad ... but inexperience)
4- Spain = Portugal (with best midfielders and that's it) = Sweden (great in attack)
6- Ukraine= Serb= Germany

Holland have alot of potential but they're probably not ready yet, England with Rooney would have been my pick and they still could but they're gonna need to utilise Lampard and Gerrard properly otherwise they're not gonna score enough goals. So i'll go with the hosts Germany because when big tournaments come round they seem to peak.

Germany have little chance to be fair. They have a very easy group and will make it through to the knock-out stages where they face England or Sweden. Enough said. Italy don't think so either - their squad is very poorly balanced and over-rated.
England - probably get to at least the Semis, excellent team. Only Brazil, Argentina and the Czech Republic have a better chance in my opinion.
Holland also very good. In Europe my top 2 are England and Holland

#1 I would not call Germany's group very easy. Costa Rica and Ecuador are both capable of pulling upsets. No team in Group A is on the low level of an Angola or T&T team. Poland is an unknown side they are hot right now and they have a very good manager.
#2 Germany having "little chance?" History shows playing at home can be very beneficial. Germany are capable of beating England and Sweden - IF either of those teams even make it through in their group to face Germany.
As for Europe's teams I would go with England, Spain, Germany in that order.

I think Italy have a good chance, I don't like the defensive play but it could get them far. I am praying Holland will win it but honestly I think it is too early for this group we have now.
And never underestimate those Germans, you have not beaten them until they are in their bus and out of the stadium
